Although unlikely, I could never trust resetting a bi-metallic safety device that is not designated as resettable, overheating can affect the metals reaction temperature, and id rather not risk my reputation that is held by many in high regard for many years by doing so. Normally I wouldn’t consider doing this but I am only enquiring in this situation due to the unusual circumstances and the background knowledge of the drier I already have.

Resetting stats by banging is something that really is only acceptable if you are intending on doing so as a temporary measure in order to make sure the element is operating properly as a back up to the absence of having a meter to prove otherwise (battery failure, broken test lead etc)

electrofix; duh! my bad! Yeah I know how stats work, but in my defence it was late, as its a Zanussi, I think I just assumed it had the big one at the front that was the cycling stat and that the 97 was the toc for low heat and the 125 was the high heat toc. But regardless of whether its cycling or toc, id rather still replace both, just need to find a source…

Re: H/point BHWD129/UK1 W/Drier Module Fault Repair Guidance

tried a few “home” repairs and as satisfying as they are when they do come off, its a fair bit of hassle, that realistically is not worthy of the time I spend on them if I’m busy. I’m all for furthering my knowledge and learning new techniques, but when you are faced with such a fragile board such as a hotpoint.indeshit one, emw is just too much of a no brainer. Quite often even if you fix the initial fault, there will be other issues on other compnents lined up just waiting to pop down the line. I think it was tony or lee at emw that told me a full “service” repair on a bhwm129 module If I did it myself sourcing the cheapest component prices online in the lowest qty 1-5 ordering rates would cost me about Β£16 in parts plus p&p and vat to refurbish the board. Yes its 35 quid profit lost, but for me the 6mth guarantee is worth that for the extra, and the knowledge its been done properly.

the easiest repair you can do is send it to EMW electronics, and get a 6mth guaranteed refurb board back. takes 2 days, customer has peace of mind, you can either provide customer with emw receipt and get them to pay for it, or you can make a handling margin on it if you are prepared to do the extra paperwork.

    Re: Miele G1182 D/W

what mark said – done quite a few of these, the old “we never change heater/impellor assemblys on their own, we always fit a new motor” mantra most of the authorised miele agents (who are usually retailers as well) wheel out is just to scare diy customers into buying a new machine, or scare off independent engineers looking to source the parts from them. If they weren’t suitable to replace independently, miele themselves wouldn’t supply them as a spare part on their own. Connects PNE people will also only advise fitting a new motor, because that’s where their margin is made πŸ™‚

    Re: Desperate! Need a miele 5011733 seal/impellor/partition

was very desperate, and managed to source one, incidentally, from another retailer, for less than connects trade price without VAT. We usually have one in stock but it was used about a week earlier, and neither connect or qualtex had one in stock. gonna order replacement direct from miele from now on because even they are cheaper than connect…

I have a customer asking for my views and recommendations on replacing the *ahem* four years old Bosch WAQ model (bearings failure) for another WAQ. To be honest I am surprised that they are still selling the WAQ models, maybe they are slow moving stock that people got wise? She was heavily influenced by Which? on their tests and reviews, WAQ is the model that got good score. I beg to differ here as an engineer.

I am rather frustrated by it and unable to tell the different between the Siemens and yet they are pitched cheaper than Bosch and remains the same internals. Feeling rather confused.com….

If it helps, WAT is now the new version of the outgoing WAQ’s. Funnily enough ive noticed in pricing up repairs the 1stGen-WAQs used a different sealed tub to the 2ndGen WAQs. However these still seem to have a 10 load/week mileage of 3-4 years

Also noticed production of the late WAQ’s has moved from poland back to spain. Havent been asked for a WAT yet so cant say where they are coming from atm

    Re: Hotpoint clicking

had quite a few polish built hotpoints with the instant door locks that click on start of prog, 5/8 were worn brushes one was door lock. one a working but impaired pump and the other customer didnt want to attempt a emw repair, after trying brushes and door lock. presuming pcb for that one as pump was clear.
