I’ll be honest, its pretty much back up to where it was pre epidemic. Maybe if I was being completely honest, one job a day less but I can cope with that. I’m even enjoying it, working with a little bit less stress and seeing the family a little more. I’ve realised that there is a work/life balance after being self employed for 25 years and chasing the money constantly.

Yes, i can confirm, the motor is the correct one for the model. I checked at the time and ive double checked again. I can only presume that the motor constantly tripping has damaged the board. The customer said they let it trip about 5 or 6 times before calling me out. No visible damage to the board. Im going to have to BER it I think.

Yes, it’s the one listed on connect for the machine. I did think that but I double checked the number.
Does this make a difference by the way, because I always fit this part number to most and haven’t had a problem so far. They all look identical to me, same wiring and same ratings etc, but as luck has it this one is the correct one.

Yeah, I’ve taken the board out and looked for damage, absolutely nothing. I’ve even given all the relays a good tap to see if one of them had stuck with the heater shorting out but no change.

I thought about going down that route about 10 years ago and did a U turn at the last minute. I’m so glad I did now.

We’ve just got to scratch through until June when we get the payment process going!! I too just have this horrible feeling in my gut that somehow, when it comes down to it, I won’t be eligible anymore. Fingers crossed in that.

Its going to be a long hard few months ahead.

The work seems to have completely dried up today. Ive had just 2 calls all day so far come through. Luckily im full today but i’ve got nothing for tomorrow.
Its all well and good the government saying that we can still work but if people dont want to call us and have us in their houses, then we may as well be closed.

I’ve got 3 sponsored adds with them like most of the competitors in my area. It’s the only advertising I do. It does pay for itself or I wouldn’t have been doing it over the years. I keep a regular check of where my customers come from. My website and the fact we’ve got return customers from past 30 years of trading give me all the customers I need.

I am seriously considering cancelling now though with the upturn of events. If I can’t work, then why advertise.
I too would like to know who to call to cancel please if you have the info to hand.

Keep safe and hopefully financially secure!!!!!

That is a good shout. I do spend about £170 a month on yell.com with sponsored listing. I do get a few jobs a month with it and it probably does pay for itself but i’m thinking about dropping it too.

This means nothing i’m afraid. All this means is that they will debate it in the house of commons. It has not been agreed or debated.

It’s a strange situation. I think the service we provide is essential but at the moment I don’t know how I really feel about entering peoples houses. Not just for the health of me and my customers but I’m torn between trying to do my bit and stay home to stop the spread and having to work for monetary reasons. Im sure soon, that if you are on the road and knocking at peoples houses you are going to start getting funny looks and even abuse from the general public.
    I’m really confused. It’s a mess.

I’ve got a full day with 9 jobs on tomorrow. God knows what to do tbh. I’ve nothing on yet for Wednesday and don’t know what to do if anybody calls. It’s an absolute shocker. If I knew we were going to be supported by the government I think I would pull the plug but there is now way I can live of £90 a week. How the hell has it come to this. I’ve felt like Ive been watching a movie for the last week but tonight it’s got a lot more real. Very scary. Keep safe and good luck.

I am a VAT registered self employed, but why would that make a difference, just curious.

My worry, as well as the health of my nearest and dearest, is the ability to keep on working and the ability to keep the business running without financial help from the government.
Whether that be due to a curfew, illness or if the parcel service grinds to a halt. Not being able to order in spares and the availability of spares with the wholesalers is another issue which I am sure will come in time. Will they be getting the same volume of parts into the country.
I am literally about to sign up for a new contract hire vehicle, (not the work van) and I am seriously worried now with the drastic turn of events what I should do.

    Worrying times.

Thats great, many thanks as usual Dave.
I cant believe they’ve made thermal cut outs that are removable on the heater but are not selling them. Out of all of the machines I’ve been to where a new heater is needed, they’ve all been replacement machines on the recall list and the customers have written them all off due to cost and past history with Hotpoint. Its just criminal. Such new machines just being ditched for a £5 pack of stats..
