He’s thick skinned enough not to let that worry him. 🙂
I’m sure there is a book in this somewhere. 😉iadom
ModeratorRe: Why is it?
Why is that when you really do need a quite day the phone goes mad, I have a new PC arriving tomorrow ( what joy ) hours and hours of setting up and transferring ‘stuff’. 🙁 🙂
Also picking up new car on Thursday, I have a backlog of 14 customers waiting for parts, most of which will arrive tomorrow, WMA rear drum, Indesit bearing support, Hotpoint W/D condensor and several others that are not five minute jobs, and I am already booked up all Wednesday and Thursday, 😮Wouldn’t have it any other way really, but it does make you long for a holiday. 8)

I suspected the start switch was OK. Have done the odd one of these in a basic model but this is the first integrated one with the five push buttons on the lip of the door I have come across.
Just going to have to have a look for any dodgy connections etc, first then.
Also found out that I do have a manual on this, it is included in the DF53/4 manual. 🙂

ModeratorRe: WMA Drum 5 yr Guarantee
Arthur Turberville, or Mr T as he was affectionately known by most people, joined Hotpoint in the early sixties after working on board merchant ships as an Officer/Electrical engineer and as an electrician at Bradford Collieries in Manchester. He started as an FSM when the office was in Broughton Lane, Salford and rose to become the Area Manager for North Manchester. When the service centre was opened at Heaton Mersey after a few years at Barlow moor Rd, Chorlton, he was at one time the Area Manager for the whole of the Manchester area. I know from speaking to many people that he was liked and admired by most people that came into contact with him at Hotpoint. I miss him a great deal, oh how he used to ramble on and on and wander of the topic when he was telling you a tale.
Those really were the ‘good old days’.

How do you think I got the job at Hotpoint. 😉
Arthur was in fact my father in law, a fantastic bloke. Sadly he died rather suddenly last September and although he had been having a few health problems it still came as a great shock to us all. His wife and two daughters have still not really come to terms with it. 😥iadom

Just because Hotpoint may not inform customers of cheaper options does not mean that us independants should lower ourselves to their level. He was not informed of his options, he would certainly have gone to Hotpoint had he known, he has a very poorly paid job, if you think we do it for the love & not the money, try working for the Church Army. He did not want a ‘ quick’ fix, just to be dealt with by a trader with morals. As he is in the middle of moving to a new post in Sussex and is very busy with that at the moment, bringing the machine all the way from Cornwall to Oldham would be just plain daft.
Also I think that £100 + labour ( we know the cost of bearings & spider )for what should be at the most a 2 hour job is rather steep, but then I do live in the poor & run down North. 😥 😉

I would just like to thank a firm in St Austells ( name witheld) for charging my brother £148.40 for a bearing & spider repair on his 3 year old WMA 👿
I know he should have had the nouse to contact me first but he is in the middle of a move to Sussex, he works for the Church Army, it is not a well paid job and he has 4 children, he can ill afford to pay someone almost £60 over the price that Hotpoint would have charged and has also now compromised his remaing parts warranty, so once again Thank You. 😥

ModeratorRe: ATTACHING BELT THROUGH TO THE PULLYS
Well if nothing else it has given you an insight into our profession, 😉
Just imagine having to be conversant with a vast and changing range of appliances with the skills to repair them in a little less time than six hours and you will no doubt appreciate the expertise involved.
Support your local tradesmen, you know it makes sense. 🙂

I have always liked fiddling (no sarky comments please) with things, something to do with my age, we had proper toys when I was a lad, Mechano, Bayko building kits ( I had a Bayko No:4 the biggest one you could get), Hornby Dublo train sets, etc, real nuts & bolts, spanners & screwdrivers, none of that poncy Lego stuff. 🙂
I still enjoy the driving, but I have always used a good spec estate car, just about to buy my 7th Volvo, I am the one getting out at 7.00 am, six days a week so I do not intend to wait until I retire to drive a decent motor.
Believe it or not, I enjoy meeting most of my customers, there are always the odd ones but by and large people round here are “gradely folk”
I enjoy being in control of my destiny ( health & taxman willing) to a point.
After 37 years, I still get a buzz from cracking a difficult fault and the satisfaction you get from grateful customers is also something I enjoy.
I just love ‘fixing’ things. 😀

ModeratorRe: ATTACHING BELT THROUGH TO THE PULLYS
This model does not have a stretchy belt, however it is still not an easy belt to refit. After trying several different ways, including Hotpoint’s recommended way, I have found that the easiest way is to remove the drum completely. I can now change a belt in around 25 minutes.
Not a repair for the amateur to attempt, you have to remove the fan cowling and the fan as well 😉
Plug out if you intend to carry on.
