ModeratorThe air break is to stop cross contamination between the hot and cold water feeds.

ModeratorPretty sure these machines do at least three rinses with the fabric conditioner taken in on the last rinse. All the hoses fit onto the rear top of the detergent dispenser. The small rectangular box with a couple of holes in the top is the air break. If the pressure is to high the water can spurt out of the top of the air break.

ModeratorThe valves themselves cannot cause an internal leak unless they have been physically damaged. Common on machines in garages that had been allowed to freeze bursting the valve. In this instance it would suggest something has been dislodged slightly during refitting the suspension. Observing the machine during fill with the lid off should reveal the cause. Some of the later, non gen fill valves can fill much faster than the original valves. Reducing the pressure at the tap on the blue hose can help.

ModeratorWell done..

ModeratorThe suspension leg under the soap drawer was always more prone to failure due to leaks from the hose from soap dispenser to drum, very common. We used to refit the hose and reseal with copious amounts of Debhor adhesive.

ModeratorWhen I say domes they could also be called cups, on very early machines only one domed cup was used but yours has two cups to make up one dome.

ModeratorSometimes if the metal shim breaks then the plastic domes rub against the plastic drum and wear away allowing the rod to come up out of the drum flange. If that has happened you can clearly see by comparing the old plastic domes with the new ones. If that is the case then you should get away with refitting the new kit.

ModeratorHow much of the rod is still attached to the nut? The whole of the rod or just the top couple of inches? If it’s just the top of the rod then you don’t need anything else. Due to cost cutting manufacturing these rods did have a tendency to snap off. If it is the whole rod still attached to the nut etc then the drum flange may be damaged. It is possible to effect a repair using some of the large washers you will have spare.

ModeratorHave a long and happy second innings. Coming up to four years retired for me now. Enjoy it all.:D

ModeratorTurns out it’s not my mates washer, it’s someone he knows, or ‘a friend of a friend’ so to speak 🙁 Still waiting for him to get back to me.

ModeratorDo you think so?;)

ModeratorThey are the thin metal shims that fit near the top of the suspension rod, over the round plastic domes and directly under the support flange on the outer drum.

ModeratorThe suspension rods themselves did snap off at the very top occasionally. If that has happened you should find the top of the rod with the nut still attached in the bottom of the machine or on the floor.

ModeratorLarge cracks in the galvanised chassis/base of the machine quite common and can also lead to drum being out of line. Easy to see from underneath by tilting the machine back slightly. Send me a PM with your email address and I will send you some useful info.
