Re: Hotpoint FDW20 dishwasher I’M lost for ideas 🙂

PS TOC is thermal overload cut-out. If the component it is protecting gets too hot (as it can during extended use or if it becomes jammed for example), it trips out, effectively shutting the appliance down.

Thus if the circulation motor, after a period of running gets too hot for any reason (weak bearings/jam or because its simply worn out) the TOC kicks in and prevents the unit from continuing for safety reasons.

This would, in theory account for the initial problem you described.

    Hope this helps

Your postings do not make it abundantly clear how you are actually conducting the tests you are making and as this is a public forum, I as a moderator, am under a duty of care to other public users of this forum for ensuring they are aware your methods of fault finding are not approved. We are here to help where we can but safety is and always will be our prime concern.

You have now had three moderators question the safety angle of your component testing and I think that says it all really.

You seem to have some technical knowledge but sadly others might not be so secure and or robust in their abilities and so the descriptions you are giving could lead to potential problems. I am sure you, like me would never wish to see ANYONE hurt or heaven forbid killed so I and the other moderators err on the side of caution in such matters.

I wish you well in your endeavours to resolve your problem but it is always safety first.

To Be Honest techstein, IMHO you are out of your depth on this one and your postings will not help others in a similar situation but rather could hurt someone or damage their equipment.

I, like Iadom suspect a faulty PCB or circ pump. Component testing in the manner your are doing is dangerous. Some components run at different voltages regulated by the PCB and other components within the appliance, simply disconnecting everything else and applying mains voltage to the component you wish to test is dangerous and to be frank stupid.

Sorry it is not what you want to hear, but your safety and the safety of others reading this thread is more important than a dishwasher, it can be replaced you cannot!

As you state quite correctly, perishable goods are not covered in this particular legislation however. I refer you to High Court and Findusco Limited V RTHA Limited (1963)

This is a case where the exact status of Frozen Pizza was determined and as a consequence of typo in the Judges ruling, it was determined that Pizza (note not specifically frozen pizza – the omission is the typo) was a non perishable good!

This error in law has never actually been challenged (presumably due to the costs involved) and therefore remains today. Technically, therefore Pizza is actually covered by this stupid legislation as it is not a perishable good and hence my previous posting.

It is not the TS officer that needs to brush up on the finer points of the legislation but rather you should not be assuming the finer points of actual law unless you have spent the 5 or so years studying it.

The case is immaterial for our industry and I used it merely to demonstrate how stupid some laws can be in this country.

Yes indeed, however the problem with testing things like this is the way the court systems work.

Claims in the County Court are NOT legally binding in other courts or cases so basically two absolutely identical cases can be heard in the same court but by two different judges and your could get two different rulings.

I am aware of a couple of cases brought by TS in the county court on things like this but the values of the claims were several hundred pounds each so again not really fitting our industry. On the two occassions I am aware of TS won both because no one defended the cases.

The real test would be to have a case brought in the High Court arena as the decisions here are definitive and can therefore set precident thus they become binding.

To date, NO attempt by any TS to do this has been brought. I suspect that this is primariliy to do with cost as it will be very expensive to bring the case in the first place and if they lose, it will be financially crippling for whichever TS brought it as well as make a mockery of the law to date.

I personally beleive the intent of the law to be a good and correct one. I disagree with the stupid arbitratory level of the restriction of invoice being at £30.

Here is an interesting arguement I am discussing with a TS officer I work with at the moment. If I order pizza by telephone for delivery to my home address and the value of the order is say £35, is the pizza company really going to give me written documentation of how I am to be able to cancel the order within 7 days. Further if I pay for it, eat it, am I allowed to take the pizza company to court for failing to reimburse me for failing to provide me with the necessary paperword thus breaching the current law.

He called me a word rhyming with hunt for suggesting this but admitted, the law could technically be interpreted this way.

The law in this instance is an ass and now I hav mentioned pizza I am hungry!

    Hi

Baumatic Technical advise there are two different F07 error codes. One actually says OVERFULL F07 which is a faulty pump out error. Pump jammed or overheating.

The other just says F07 which indicates a faulty fill valve.

    I hope this helps.

And I bet he moans about the cost of the pencils as he buys in bulk (2 at a time) so needs a bigger dicount than internet retailers like amazon and so on.

I was going to say he alos has a styrograph but I am unsure of the spelling and in any event, his brighter and more interlectually adept 4 year son has first call on its use

Nope not for a while anyway, perhaps he will then get the message.

I cannot work out if he is just confrontational for the fun of it or just too stupid to understand the basics.

As for sales well anyone can spout figures, problem is, some of us know him and know the figures quoted are more at home in a jackanory story than reality.

A quick check at Companies House shows his Ltd Company was only formed In June last year so there are no accounts to back him up, which in effect sums him up.
