    Re: Six Year Guarantee

This was first raised by “Which” magazine back in Feb 2001 or 2002 cant remember off hand (have copy in my office)
It was more concerned at that time with customers being sold unrequired extended warranty, and being given mis-information by the retailer.

It is not something new. However what I can not understand is
” The act says goods must last a reasonable time – and that can be anything up to six years from the date of purchase.”

Which in England is 6 years but in Scotland is 5 years 🙄

I will advise you to look into this past the training.
My understanding is that you will also need to a member of an assosiation
such as http://www.select.org.uk/ to get the relevent paper work and this is not cheep just for an occasional use.

(Could not spell neijice for the english equivalent 😳 )

Thank “k” that explains things a lot better

But dose anyone have a chart of water hardness for the areas in the UK?
So we know what settings we should be using on the salt dispensers?

Re: NVQ for the Domestic Appliance industry.

I have been watching this thread with intrest

My whole understanding of the NVQ debate (For what it is worth) It is a good thing for the industry as a whole.

Meny of you are talking about time, cost, and lost earnings, which we can all understand. But no one is saying you must gain these certificates yourself. They would be put in place to help youngsters come into the industry and keep the trade alive, and to guide the public to reliable tradesmen.

No one is saying you have to stop trading just becouse after 20 years you do not have a piece of paper. What they are asking is help to pass on that 20 years of experiance to the next generation. With your coporation and a good assessor the passing and understanding of that knowladge would be a seamless process.

You are all in a unique position and are now being asked to give your apprentices experiance and the chance of a qualification …… a trainning school can not give them experiance

I work for a goverment agency and here the empissis is on qualifications rather than production. (I can not give them experiance) so do not be afraid of schools churning out lots “tradesmen” with this qualification….experiance counts for more than you realise.

Re: Any NVQ2 Training in London

I am not in london but if you drop me a line I still have material that used to be taught here on Domestic appliances.

Just general stuff not brand spesific

It was a customised certificate which is no longer deliverd. Should still have descriptors and some handouts if you are intrested in using any of it you can have it.

    Ultra

Thanks for that but things have moved on for me since this post.

Origionaly I took over a training facility that taught “Domestic appliance servicing and repair” about three years ago It awarded a cusomised SQA certificate. My intention was to update the award as it had been running of ten years with no changes to the training material.

I found little outside help at the time so had to reserch the subject myself. I wrote a modle for PAT testing and was writting a new module for refigeration when my employers pulled the plug on the whole thing.

I now instruct in construction house wiring to SQA level 2

I have not thrown out the domestic appliance material as I do not foresee much future in the house wiring sector so I am trying to get my employers to go back to the old course.

One thing I will say is that the training offerd in this forum is looking good and getting better the more the independents in the trade get together the better. Unfortinately for me it was to late to save my training school

nwar has just left the building loking for a sky hook

Just finnished my time in the powerstation, when I was given a second year apprentice.
We had to take a large motor out of a pit to change it. I told the apprentice to “nip down the rigger howff and get them to send up an Iron fairy” at which I was told what to do with my-self. I did not know other trades men had aredy that week sent him for left handed drivers and the like.
So I took him into the out house phoned the riggers and they came up to us with the Iron fairy.
As the rigger was looking over the pit he turned to the boy and says ” “£${e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} I never brought up a sky hook with me … go nip down to our howff and get us one ” and off he trotts

    Some guys never learn

    Re: Practical jokes.

When my daughter was at univesity we visited her one weekend.
So I thought it would be funny to turn all the cornflake boxes in her cupboard upside-down.
However my wife decided to do a bit of cleaning in the kitchen. We heard the scream and she walked through to the living room coverd in cornflakes to ask “Leigh why do you keep your cornflakes upside down” I nearly burst trying not to laugh.
Mind you she has never tried to clean up our daughters house since.

Ive borrowed some ideas from Haynes manules in the past for training.

I found the layout of the electrical safety section useful

But there is no better teacher than experiance………
