KeymasterFor the manufacturers it just raises the cost of an exchange yet again, so they’ll be even less keen to exchange products. But then they’re doing more now than ever they were so far as I can see,
For the insurer I’m guessing that it will depend on who’s picking up the tab for the disposal.

KeymasterRe: TRADE ASSOCIATION (OR THE LACK OF)
Totally correct Kevin and yet more than 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} will undoubtedly benefit from what we do or attempt to do for the trade as a whole, or at least I hope so.
I would like to see a lot of people there and already there’s quite a few that will be attending one or both meetings and it should be well worth the effort to attend as there’s a fair bit on offer.
I have a thing about meetings you see, I like to ensure that we’ve either done or made the best effort to ensure that we’ve done all that is humanly possible on any topics raised before the next meeting. The reasons are really self evident but the one most important to me is that it shows progress. It is important to me that this is done as a few people know well enough with the grief I’ve given them to get stuff done. 😉
As for a trade association, I have repeatedly said that UKW will never become one and I will stand by that remark ad infinitum. What I do think we’ve done is shed a new light on the notion of helping one another and attempted perhaps to offer something that’s fresh and different with a motivation and just a smidge or self-interest to carry it forward along with some very tangible results for as many as possible. It won’t appeal to everyone and that’s fine, you can’t please all the people all the time and, personally, I realise this fully.
That said, many of the issues facing the small/medium independent business or one-man business are often very similar issues and many of the resolutions are actually the same.
However to come to that conclusion we would have to be informed and that means hearing your opinions, whether I or anyone else agrees with it is not the point, considering the opinion is the point.
The tagline I attached to UKW not long after it went live was “It’s your industry – be a part of it”…
I wasn’t kidding.

KeymasterNope, I never really want to go down that road of being a work provider if it can be avoided.

KeymasterHiya Jon,
Many of the spares fro the US appliances cost silly money, that’s just the way it is I’m afraid.
Dave should be able to get you a price on that in the morning, or confirm the price you’ve been given as well as supply if required.

KeymasterThe pump runs based on time on a drain generally, not on the basis of the water in the machine. Pressure switches are pretty stupid devices that only record the water level at on to four (normally) levels dependent on the appliance and number of programmes, the appliance being empty is usually not sensed at all. So that does not indicate a level switch fault although it couldn’t be ruled out.
Running on the dry cycle could indicate a plethora of problems and there’s no easy answer to that one I’m afraid.
When you say the machine isn’t finishing the cycle what symptoms are you actually getting?
As for diagrams etc., their not really available as such and, even if they were, they’d be of little use. IIRC, on that model the diagrams are pretty grim.

KeymasterThere’s another thread running on exactly this topic Dave. 😉

KeymasterRe: APM 6842 fridge freezer problem
Hi Kennedy,
First off in my experience proper ventilation is vital with built in appliances in respect of refrigeration and cooking products, if it is not right then you will have problems that will manifest either in the short or longer term. One thing that you can be sure of is that it will cause a problem.
The <10oC issue is due to reductions in manufacturing costs as the system employed here negates the need for a second compressor, thermostat and a host of other bits. The downside is that it has to be run at a what is considered a "reasonable" room temperature which is generally accepted to be 18oC or higher. This should be noted in the fitting instructions and it should also be available on any sepcifications given by the manufacturer for the product as well.
Most modern domestic refrigeration products are entirely unsuitable for colder environments as well as areas where there is damp, or moist air, such as a garage or outhouse.
With the appliance that you have there I would doubt that there is a machine on the market now that would perform any better given the situation that you have it in, or indeed, perform at all.

KeymasterSorry guys, can I just interject that UKW is NOT AND WILL NOT be an official trade association, by it’s very structure it cannot become one. Just in case anyone gets the wrong idea about us replacing DASA which I’ve heard so often.
Just thought I’d clarify that point, please continue. 😉

KeymasterRe: Opportunity and perception.
There is a window of opportunity here I think as well, not just to bang the drum on UKW but, handled correctly, I think we could actually get a lot of what we’re doing here covered by the media as well. If we can get that on the go, even if UKW is not even mentioned, then we win.
Whilst UKW reaches a lot of people and, I guess, a good bit of the industry we’d be unlikely to reach enough to make a sizeable difference, but then affecting sales is what we want to do and even doing that in the order of a few thousand a month could make a difference in the way that some of the manufacturers stop and think. However as you well know Chris, once a course for these boys has been set it takes a lot of time to correct or change it.
I think that there’s a lot of merit in what you’re doing but also add in the fact that the more expensive appliance has a longer anticipated lifespan from the outset as well thereby negating or offsetting the WEEE cost as well. It’s also WORTH repairing and likely it will be more economical to do so on a more expensive appliance and that’s also a consideration, which in turn pushes our services.
Changing the attitude of consumers has always been a goal of mine, pet hobby really, and it is worth the attempt.
As for a Beko being worth something, share the drugs man!

KeymasterRe: Press Release – e-Jobs
Indeed and I’m a bit peeved off about it as well. 👿
Never mind it will be there this week and, as Dave says, I want it right and not rushed. We did some extensive testing this week which led to a rewrite of a load of the code to get it the way, primarily, I wanted it so it gave all the right information etc and there has been substantial advancement on the admin interface as well that should save us a fair old bit of time. So, all things considered, it is probably a worthwhile delay in the end.
Please note that putting up a companies details is not a two minute job and we will be doing it in batches, it will not be immediate as it takes a bit of effort presently to do this.

KeymasterThat’s okay Jason, we’ll have you mailed to a cross on your return. Wouldn’t want to do it before you enjoyed your holiday now would we? 😆
Enjoy, more than likely there will be a bit of reading for you upon your return.

KeymasterRe: Agenda Items and Invitees
Whilst I take the point Martin the reason for the format is that it accomplishes a few things…
1. It gives us time with others from within and related to our businesses
2. It allows us the night to chat and socialise a bit.
3. It gives us the chance for a closed meeting (albeit that didn’t happen last time)
4. There would simply not be the time to cram it all into one day.
The reason for a Friday and why that is the others outside of our good selves is that many of these people are actually working, asking them to take their own persoanl time out on a Saturday is asking a bit much IMO. So, that’s why that is, but that in no way diminishes the importance of that side of it.
Saturday is always more liable to be a brainstorming session and one that may well be best left left with a certain flexability as I’m in no doubt that some of Friday’s topics will be revisited there.
As for John, I’ve not heard from him since the DASA AGM but I think I’ve his mobile number somewhere, but if anyone would like to bring him up to speed please?

KeymasterGenerally the drain hole at the back would be blocked, something flexible like a bit of wire or pipe cleaner or the likes down it should solve the problem.
