andy_art_trigg wrote:The Tom Tom Go does use post codes. You put the post code in under “City..” Although it only finds the post code area and doesn’t use the last 2 letters which identify the street.
I just caught that one, is that not a bit of a pointless exercise Andy? I mean the whole point of satnav is to get you to your destination, not somewhere in a 2-50 mile radius dependent on the population density. Seems a bit silly to me.
As a general rule and, I do mean this as a general rule, the integrated head units tend to be far better than standalone products which is very strange, it’s usually the other way around. I think it’s down to car manufacturers using them after all, if you bought a swanky new Mercedes or Beemer and the satnav with their name on it sent you off the wrong way down a one-way street you’re not likely to be very impressed.

KeymasterRe: SMEG Repairs
Rebecca,
I haven’t used the rottiserie much in my Smeg but I have done chicken in it okay with the supplied prongs. The only hassle I had was that, as the bird cooked, it “loosened” up and started to come away from the supplied ones.
I think I aquired another set as well as a set of kebab ones from another customer I was at a while back who didn’t want them and they’re fine for most uses. I’ll try and see if I can find out what model they came off for you as they should fit. Also, if memory serves me, whilst the rotiserie bar is square as opposed to triangular, some of the De Dietrich ones will also fit to the Smeg bar.
Generally we don’t get many problems with these as I don’t think that too many people actually use them. Great for kebabs though if a bit on the messy side. 😉

Haier made dishwashers, six LED models.
F = Flashing
X = OffE1 = F F F F F F = The door switch is faulty
E2 = F F X X X X = No fill error
E3 = X F F F X X = No drain error
E4 = F F X F X X = Temp sensor
E5 = F F F X X X = Overfill/flooding

Bob all I can find is the LED light sequence on their PCB controlled models which I’ll stick up on the Known Fault Codes in a bit.

KeymasterRe: SMEG Repairs
Smeg are okay, no better nor no worse than any other mid-range manufacturer IMO but you are paying for the styling and acres of stainless steel used in many of the products as well as the design.
The service is, as Alex states, as good as the local agent in your area and it’s not high-volume so many agents will not see too many of them, therefore they may well not stock much. I certainly would not think that the service was, overall, much worse than many others out there and certainly it is better than some. You also have to bear in mind that the agents are not being paid a premium rate and therefore cannot provide premium service for the appliances, in fact the rates paid for Smeg are only just on a par with many lower end products. So the customer’s expectations and what can actually be done within the financial constraints are a case of “never the twain..”.

KeymasterRe: Hell of a lot to read….
Yeah P, but like that guy “conaero” if they are determined to fix it for free we’re not going to stop them, the trick is not to give them too much information. Now, since he’s gone and told us where the info came fom and he fries himself then he only has himself or the chap Simon to blame.
Thing is there’s a lot of have-a-go-heroes out there that really should leave the things alone and I count myself among them! 😆
But you’re right a bit of gentle persuasion usually does the trick and normally you get the feel for whether the punter is capable or not, just common sense really as you say.
As to the abuse posts, we don’t actually get many at all and that’s probably because people can see that the forums and the site in general is well policed for any crap.

KeymasterYeah Mark, look for the dodgy posts and the multiple ones, the rule is delete from the last one up the way, that way we avoid the “oops Ken and Dave deleted the lot” scenario! 😆

KeymasterHey Kevin you old bugger, you got off light! 😉
Needless to say I have made some “adjustments” to compensate slightly that I left out but you get the point, the figures are frightening when you look closely at them. As you have seen, only covering the raw cost simply isn’t enough to justify doing the work.
I’ve made my case to DAG, backed it up with facts, let’s see what they do.

KeymasterRe: brandt
But it’s not really a revolt against DAG, it’s against Brandt. By coming up with the same lines really we’re only giving Alex a bit of support and credence to his ascertions about Brandt.
Today Alex I sat and analysed Brandt calls from 01/06 till 07/12, Kevin or Dave can forward you the mail to Therese and the spreadsheet as it makes grim reading I’ll tell you. The laugh is I didn’t have to doctor it to make it look bad, it does look bad! From memory, in that space of time I’ve lost about £670 on Brandt work and 34 calls that I could have been doing better things with.
Now, on the face of it losing £670 isn’t the end of the world, until I tell you that that sum does not include any admin or spares lying around that need sending back. Nor does it take into account the potential lost earnings from the other work I could have been doing. But that’s not the worst of the story, the worst of it is that I have lost that amount on 51 calls, over £10 a call lost!
And today I had one rejected as well as “no policy”, how fucking annoying is that? 👿

KeymasterRe: Hotpoint WM Series Armatures OBSOLETE!
Hi John,
Welcome to UKW.
I have no issue with pattern spares for the most part, many of them are from the OEM manufacturer via a different route. I should know that pretty well as I used to wholesale them, including spares from Homespares. However, you have to concede that some of the spares that come in are very poor, Coprecci pumps with no TOC’s spring to mind along with some very “dodgy” Hotpoint carbons in holders that had a nasty tendency to melt or even go on fire, door seals that where so thin you could almost spit through them, things like that do the pattern spares business no favours at all. In fact it really doesn’t do any of us any favours as it tarnishes the entire industry IMO.
As it happens, when selling spares, I tended to find that the people that were not the most reputable of traders where the ones that didn’t give a stuff about the quality of spares they used, they cared only that they were as cheap as possible. An audience I didn’t cater for as I like to sleep at night.
All spares may well come with a warranty, as is the legal requirement, returning them however is often not an easy task at all and more labour intensive and therefore more costly than the cost of the part, often I and I’m sure others, feel that that is a deliberate tactic. I am not in any way referencing to your company here, manufacturers are the single biggest guilty party for refusing to accept returns or failures.
As for “dodgy” OEM stuff, well there’s many a conspiricy theory that’s been mooted on that subject. 😉

KeymasterRe: brandt
Exactly Kevin, it relly doesn’t take too much effort and you can be passive in it and still win the day.
The point is, to me, on the S. Yorks situation that what goes around comes around and today it may be Brandt, a few months ago it was Whirlpool who knows what’s around the corner. What would happen if Lux asked Kevin to take some of Phil’s area on? What would happen if a couple of Jason’s asked Phil or Kevin to do work?
That’s where they’ve all had us by the balls for far too long, they just move on to the net sad sap and personal greed kicks in. Why?
When you think about it supporting, particularly small low volume work like this, will make the big boys in the playground take note of what has happened and respond when the time comes in an appropriate manner rather than treating us with the contempt that they have done. It is my opinion that just grabbing the work serves no purpose other than to maintain the status quo of “divide and conquer”, which we’re all sick of.
In the case of Devon, well Brandt are now pretty much fucked, there’s no-one else about that will touch it and certainly none with all three skillsets that I am aware of. So the shoe is now on the other foot, something I’ve been trying to tell eveyone for months on end. The choices of agents is more and more limited and, if we work together and co-ordinate things right, we all may just end up where we want to be.
