KeymasterThere was a data loss Tinhips, per the front page article and this is a non-recoverable error I’m afraid. There were a few other comments beside the one from Alex as well. All I can do is apologise, but there’s not a lot I can do after the fact to resolve it.
However on such a passionate subject I’m sure that those that had posted a comment will re-post it.
Again, my apologies.

KeymasterRe: rumours
Here we go again…
Right, before you all go off on one let’s analyse what’s actually been said/asked in Kevin’s post. There’s no sense in just having a go for the sake of it, answering the questions posed in a reasoned fashion may be a far more appropriate way to respond, don’t you think?
I have little idea where the DASA people are. If they’re not looking at UKW then fine that’s their own choice, who am I to say anything about it. If that is the case then, as suggested that it’s a strategy, then I’ll keep my own council on what I think of it. However, I suspect and truly hope that that is not the case.
Publishing the members should be a non-issue, it has always been done in order to promote DASA members and I can see no reason, irrespective of the numbers involved, to continue to promote the membership. I do however take the point made in that the membership published in that format is easily used for other purposes.
The associates names were never ever published, Chris never did it, only now is that information becoming available. They were certainly never published on the members list or anywhere else that I was aware of.
As to the priority question it’s a very apt and good question that I’m sure many DASA council members and officers would be interested in hearing views on. If you have any suggestions then I’m sure that they will be taken onboard and looked into so please air any ideas that you may have.
Tinhips, the list actually lists PKI Ltd, a company that is now in voluntary liquidation owing to Kevin’s situation with Whirlpool so therefore Kevin is unlikely to benefit from that situation in any way. The point he was making was that the list is out of date and, whilst there may be good reason for that, it is a valid point and one that we should perhaps look toward addressing.
Can I just say that answering the questions is far more constructive than simply having a “pop” back, that serves no purpose and accomplishes nothing. Kevin is well known for his forthright and, on occasion, blunt remarks but they are always, in my opinion at least, pretty well intentioned if easily misunderstood. A little tolerance and lattitude wouldn’t go amiss.

KeymasterRe: CDA CW494/1 Dishwasher
CDA appliances come with a 5 year spares warranty Bassman so it should, in theory, still be within warranty.

KeymasterJaded,
We know and there was no need for yet another thread on the subject either. I know you’re upset about it but there’s not a lot we can do hence the suggestion that you contact the local trading standards regarding the company in question.
There is no trimming or deletion of posts on UKW without good cause to do so, so anyone doing a search on here will find the original thread.
The company is not on UKW as far as I am aware, certainly not registered as a trade account.
I have thought of a “Dodgy Dealers” list but it has to be justified, i.e. many complaints that go unresolved but one complaint could not be construed as justifying inclusion on any such list by any stretch.
Have you looked on the consumer sites like cliktocompliants etc. to see if there’s anyone else that’s had problems with this company?
How much money was involved anyway?

KeymasterRe: Corrosion holes in dishwasher tubs.
Martin wrote:As for what to charge? Well, it’s only a 5 to 10 minute job to dry, clean and seal the holes then leave for several hours before using, with not much of a guarantee of a lasting fix I reckon. So at best a cheap fix and no extra charge if it doesn’t 🙄
Yes but to an insurer or manufacturer faced with writing the machine off or us spending the time and effort doing it as opposed to that is what I was getting at. You are quite correct about the warranty on the repair, but for say the likes of D&G, even if it saved one out of every three holed tanks that’s a fair amount of money over the course of a year I should imagine.

Dear Associate Member
A new type of a telephone fraud is currently in operation (this applies to home and/or work telephones – land lines and mobiles): If you do receive one of these calls, upon answering the telephone, you will hear a recorded message congratulating you on winning an all expenses trip to an exotic location. You will then be asked to press 9 to hear further details.
If you press 9 you will be connected to a premium rate line that costs approximately £20 per minute. Even if you disconnect immediately, it will remain connected for a minimum of 5 minutes, costing around £100. The final part of the call involves you being asked to key your postcode and house number (which has other serious consequences). After a further 2 minutes you will receive a message informing you that you are not one of the lucky winners. The total bill will be £260.
Since the calls are originating from outside the UK, BT and other telephone companies are left relatively powerless to act. The only safe solution is to HANG UP before the message prompts you to press 9; even safer is to HANG UP on any unsolicited ‘free offer’ call.
BT has been contacted and confirmed the details as being true.
Kind Regards
Julie Parkinson

KeymasterRe: DASA!
No-one’s been derogitory at all I don’t think, in fact nobody’s really had a pop at DASA other then the “what’s happening” basically or some constructive critisism.
For example, to me, the post by Andy Trigg only highlights that teh members list is not accessible easily and certainly not intuative to a customer. If someone (like or loath him) like that with his experience of using the internet cannot find it then what hope is there for most of the numpties out there?
But then I take the comments and turn them into something positive instead of whining about how negative people are being and there’s no offence intended in that, it’s a human reaction to the comments. The problem is that the second that DASA is mentioned immediately hackles go up and the DASA Tribe go on the defensive immediately, very often coming across very poorly indeed.
An example of this is found in the Dave Pannel post where he had a good old pop at Kevin on a very personal level, basically slurring his character and answering none of the points raised in any way. He’s the supposed press officer for DASA for fuck’s sake and this was what, one, two days after he was appointed to that position? What sort of impression do you think that gives to the organisation? Whether you feel it was justified or not is entirely irrelevent to the content, it is not the way that DASA or DASA members should be behaving in public.
What I have noticed is that you ask “what’s happening”, “why isn’t this being done” or similar and you get the reply that you are slagging off DASA. What the fuck is that all about? And, given that reaction is it any wonder that the membership is in decline?
And again let me reitterate the point, this is not slagging DASA, I’m trying to help it survive.

KeymasterTimely or what, just had a customer that needs a tank repaired to save scrapping a machine.
Wonder what we could charge contract customers for that sort of service? After all it could save a few bob as well as appease the odd customer.

KeymasterI have Blomberg disguised as a Brandt washer, smeg DW, oven/hob and a Maytag FF with a De Deitrich badge on it.
All change soon though with a bit of luck as I’m doing the kitchen which means I’ll be on the scrounge soon. 😉
