Re: Is This Legal Or Illegal?

No Cookerfit, I’ve never had a catagoric, clear answer from CORGI on a few occasions I called them for clarification on some points and even their inspectors seem to disagree with the colleges on occasion. Part of the problem, I assume, is that the textbook way of doing something and the real world way often differ, especially when you have to take account of the customer and practicallities as well as the legislation. However that does not distract from the fact that, in this instance, I think that the company are well in the wrong and could well come a cropper if something goes wrong.

Interestingly the rumour goes that they have instigated this policy as they cannot get, maintian or afford to have full CORGI cover throughout their network. Now there’s a shock eh? We’ve only been warning manufacturers etc. that this would happen for the past three or four years and it has fallen on deaf ears, well it looks as if it’s coming home to roost now and, IMO, it is a situation only set to get worse as time passes if it is not addressed soon.

Martin, CORGI is up for discussion at the forthcoming meeting and the reason that I have not invited someone from CORGI directly is that we have to agree, with manufacturers and WP’s etc. a way forward to go to CORGI and the HSE with before reaching that stage. It is a subject that I feel will be better tackled at a meeting as opposed to on here initially so we are all singing from the same hymn sheet as opposed to being our usual seperate voices.

Del, I agree. I would not entertain the notion of such a practise but we cannot realistically do much about it other than inform the trade and hope that we get it through to those that are doing this that it is illegal, immorral and potentially dangerous to them as well as the customer. It is my opinion that for manufacturer service that the appliance should be serviced within the legal framework presented by HSE, CORGI or any other legal body that we have to satisfy and, if that pushes up the cost of servicing then the manufacturer should approach government to resolve the situation and not make us pay the price by effectively expecting us to subsidise their own service costings.

However I’ll see what shakes out over the next few days or so.

I would agree with those sentiments Alex but I would rather wait and see if the company in question puts it right before shouting about it. I think giving them a chance to resolve the problem without involving CORGI etc. is fair play but any repairer carrying out work of this nature is on extremely dodgy ground indeed.

There’s only one UG632 listed with an “S” suffix, and I need the FD number to check the part properly Dave. 😕

Before FD6905 and after FD6906 they change.

You can get Teka/Kuppersbusch on 01235 821288 or fax them on 01235 861924.

I was gonna say something about this the other night, in fact I was quite wound up about it but I’ve managed to resist rising to the bait and I’m ignoring it for now.

    If it niggles though… 😈

I very much doubt that Hotperloni will approach the independent repair trade as they already burnt that bridge, Anyway, what’s the chance we’d make a call for under £30 these days never mind the insult on offer for this work, so little chance of anyone being stupid enough to take it on from us. So they have approached RETRA and CIH members who are moaning like hell about the level of service, quite rightly. They haven’t been stung…yet!

But really, do they think that we don’t speak to the retailers? 😉
