KeymasterNot all members are actually trade, there is, however in all probability, access to the knowledge of around about that many engineers (if not more!)on the site as many of the members are principals of a business that employs a few people. 😉
That does not detract at all from what you’re saying and it is a bit of an accomplishment to have happened in such a short space of time.
But as I’m always saying, the people that contribute to the site, especially the engineers and company owners on here show, to me at least, a massive amount of knowledge, patience and skill in dealing with not only the appliances but also the actual customers in dealing with the general public. I think that in itself is an astounding achievement and serves as a fantastic advert for our trade and the people in it. I also think that as many of us do carry out manufacturer service it’s a great advert for the manufacturer as well so there’s no losers in my honest opinion.

KeymasterNo idea Chris but its one of the things that really appealed about FSB membership to me as the cost of it outside the FSB probably outweighs the membership fees. I seem to remember my account having something similar that was nothing to do with the FSB being about £80 PA for a single trader for tax only, not VAT.

But let me ask you two simple questions that will explain a lot of how the situation we’re in happened IMO….
If all freestanding washers were priced from £399.99 and upwards would people stop buying them?
But if that’s the price in Comet and down the road Currys sells one for £379.99 then where do you think the customer will buy?
Now Comet wants a machine at that price point or lower and the downward spiral begins. 😕

KeymasterWhat lotusray says is correct Martin, even for someof us doing contract work the pressure is on to produce so many completed calls per day just to pay the bills and wages. Time is a luxury that we cannot afford in some cases. 🙁

Some of the guys have had hassles with Haier spares and they were (AFAIK) being handled by British Gas. However, I’ve checked their spares system and there’s no listing for it at all. 😕

KeymasterOh yeah I read about that on the DASAnet site the other day, what a silly, silly and unproffesional idea to have that as a seperate site IMHO. And any information like that has to be presented with text and a short biography type thing or it’ll just look crap and who’s going to do that I wonder?
Not my call though so I’ll just toodle off and leave it be.

I keep telling people I think a bit differently. I make no exception with this as we want to retain margin, areas and loyalty as well as add value to the businesses. If we want to do that then we have to start to think a bit differently to the way we have done in the past and, let’s face it, we can’t make it any worse!

As for niche, well have you noticed that all the niches have one thing in common…US!
