    Re: The UKW Subscriber Forum

I was asked about being able to pay for UKW subs annually as well as by using the SO Mandate so that can be done. Offering a discount on £60 for a year seems a bit of a nonsense as it’s not exactly a King’s Ransom we’re asking! 😆

Anyway, it can now be done and, using NOCHEX we can accept payment by credit or debit cards, there is a small surcharge on that of £1.70 though. That’s easily done by either myself or Dave if anyone wants to pay that way, it’s painless and easy as well as secure.

Cheques are fine as well, no problem there, just send to the UKW address on the contact details page.

An invoice can be sent if required but bear in mind that UKW is not yet VAT registered as we’re nowhere near the threshhold yet so there’s no VAT element to it. Invoices will be sent electronically via email.

Please remember that if you are paying using the mandate form that you NEED A REFERENCE NUMBER so we know who’s actually paying! By any other method, cheque or credit/debit card, we will automatically issue the reference number.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

    No.

    No.

They should be fitted “dry” otherwise you could get residues on the clothing during the wash.

I’d have to agree with Eastlmark, at best it’s a compromise if there’s no other option available, at which point all you can do is, well, compromise really. Bar one machine from Hoover, if memory serves, all WD’s can only dry approx. 1/2 what you wash and it will take far longer and be less efficient than a seperate dedicated dryer.

If you really have no choice I’d try to get something German that’s actually made in Germany, many are not.

Cooker hoods, reported fault either poor or no extraction. Virtually always a waste of diesel! 😉

Smeg always mess about, you need to send them a statement, then they may pay you. 😕

I had a look at the technical information bulletins for that ranges that use the type of timer described, the model number looks to be incorrect I’m afraid, and the fault described is not listed. So it’s either a timer fault or down to good old fashioned diagnostic skills to work it out. 😉

I’d advise you get someone in that does repairs to these machines as taking pot-shots at what’s faulty is liable to work out more expensive.

    Hang on a sec…

This winds me right up this does! The manufacturer obviously gets it wrong, otherwise there would be little call to modify the spare, then the poor old customer or insurer has to foot the bill for THEIR mistake!???!

Something not quite right there methinks. 😉

    Hmmm…. apparently…

Merloni are offering figures of an 85-95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} first fix rate. 😆 The accountants figured that one out obviously, I love these projected figures. 😉

The rates discussed appear to be bang on the money, £16 per completed call.

Roughly they will supply 70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the work you recieve (here’s the sting) and 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} you have to find for yourself. 😕

Apparently the take up has been poor on the offer for some surprising reason, I wonder why? 😉

Actually they were 51{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} owned by Merloni at the time. 😉

No way on either Trigger or Martin, neither are TWR material IMHO.

Penguin, a possible. Ernie at WCDA another possible.

Other than that I think we should pretty much stay as we are.

    Hiya,

This is a subject that has come up a few times now and there’s some news on it too, but not good.

I had the Coppermine (Photo Gallery) set so it was only me that could upload for security reasons, i.e. I didn’t want some muppet trying to hack it. All worked well for a while…

Then the other day Trevor discovered a potentially HUGE security flaw in the module and it has had to be disabled for the moment until it’s patched, if/when one becomes available. It was a very severe risk to the site and indeed the server that it sits on.

See, this is the stuff you don’t see in the background. 😉

That’s where we’re currently at with it.

Consider this, a well read magazine review or web review can seriously affect a products sell-ability, it’s a proven fact. All it needs is enough exposure, either directly or indirectly and whilst it won’t kill sales of any product or brand it can affect them quite profoundly. However that said, no-one here is suggesting that UKW would have that much effect, yet. It may in time as it’s exposure grows, but that remains to be seen.

But I notice your post about Mr Gates, who we all just love Martin, it may come as no surprise that the most financially powerful man/corporation started in a garage in the middle of nowhere with no money, no resources and no customer base. They didn’t just say, “it’s not worth it why bother”. I’m not saying it will or wil not make a difference in the slightest, but at least we could honestly say we tried to make a difference.

I often draw parallels with other industries with the whitegoods one, as when you walk into WH Smith there are reams of magazines about browngoods, cars, in fact, just about anything on the planet but not a one about our boring white boxes, because that’s how the public sees them. The closest ou’ll get is a snippet in Which, various kitchen or homes magazines where, you’ll notice, most of the manufacturers target their advertising. Simply because most appliances are changed through neccessity, i.e. a distress purchase, by moving home or changing the kitchen, they rarely get changed because there’s a newer and better one come along. So, how effective it would be is debateable for sure and it would take years to really make a difference, this is not going to produce short-term results. But it time, it may.

But then, as this industry moves at glacial pace, just how would you fill a monthly magazine that was of any interest to consumers? 😉
