    Re: Fridge freezer logik

Sadly, that’s a Currys exclusive brand so they’re the only people with any information on them at all, we don’t even know what the layout of it is to be able to offer much help. Unless anyone has seen one out of warranty.

Nice site but I’d not come across that one although I think I’ve seen some of the videos on YouTube.

Bit iffy not having a pukka address anywhere though or at least, I couldn’t find one on a quick look.

    Possibly.

Most of those devices have woeful security in place. Then poor support when it does go sideways.

    Re: IOT enabled Engineers

    Martin I don’t think so.

I live in a connected world full of automation way beyond sticking a camera or a tablet on a fridge and calling it automated but the reality is that there’s a whole bunch of things that just don’t lend themselves to the cost or hassle of being connected.

iOT reminded the tech community of that in a way just a week or so ago with a massive attack that brought huge online tech companies to a grinding halt just because they are fundamentally flawed.

To check progress on something in the oven, use an Echo, get Alexa to remind you or even have the HA remind you or though the like of a Sonos system. There is no need and no argument IMO for a connected oven.

    Ditto washing machine.

    Ditto dryer.

    Ditto dishwasher.

    And pretty much, ditto fridge.

Putting a camera in a fridge, utterly useless for most of the thing’s packed is as you can’t see bog all anyway. Any of the fridge guys will tell you how many new lifeforms they’ve come across at the back of fridges and freezers. Camera’s or much else won’t help that.

Customers, whilst stupid aren’t completely stupid. They’ve sussed this already and in droves are staying away from this sort of thing and, many have already been stung with “smart” TVs etc that are rendered dumb by the failure to update services, if they ever used them in the first place.

Which gets you to, if you never used it on the telly, that more people spend a whole heap more time with than the fridge, why pay for it on a fridge? What benefit does it bring?

As Bob says, this isn’t news, it’s been around for ages and has failed to take off, I think for many of the reasons above, too much for little more than a gimmick.

I’d love to see the sales figures for the things as I’d wager they sell in minute quantities.

A suspicion I have as, despite a huge buzz, advertising and all that malarky when Samsung launched their campaign to sell a connected washing machine at over £1000 JLP managed to sell little over 30 of them nationwide the first week they were available.

At least they found thirty daft punters to buy them…

Wonder how many repairers they could find to fix them when they broke, which they did.

    Re: washing machine filling

Okay, if the main water in is isolated and not on to the machine then the water has to come from somewhere.

The only other place it can come from is the drain through backfilling.

But… the water would not then rise above the level o the drain, gravity and all that comes into play making that impossible.

And, likewise, if it was getting water from the mains supply even were it on then it shouldn’t fill above the drain either.

So it doesn’t really matter how slice it, either what you describe should be not possible to happen, something is very wrong with the installation or, there’s something wrong with the plumbing.

Re: how and have i been lucky ?

I walked into a house one day, brand new build, warranty call on a Candy integrated washer.

Easy job, module fried and knew that before I walked in, with said module.

Now being as I knew these machines like the back of my hand, all I needed to do was draw it out, tip it back, reach in and pop the old module out, bang a new one in…

    Two minute job.

Me being me, switched off the power on the isolation wall switch. Just so as I didn’t get a belt you understand.

Reached in, grabbed the module and blam, next words out my most were along the lines of “Oh you mutha******* ******* of hell”, RCD pops, house goes dark.

Woman walks through and says, “sorry I forgot to tell you that the switch doesn’t cut the power off, hope that’s ok?”

    No it’s ********** not ok you stupid ******. I thought, didn’t say.

    Easy job, yeah okay.

A close relative is a very, very good sparky and he scares the bejesus out me working on live stuff but he’s relaxed about it, no idea why as some of the stuff he works on would probably belt you hard enough to put you in orbit. But his attitude is, so long as you tick the right H&S boxes all is well, if you’re dumb and make a mistake that’s fine you won’t do it again. If you’re really plain bloody stupid and make a mistake that kills you you won’t make the mistake again either. So win, win.

The upshot being, stupid people or those without a clue shouldn’t be working with electricity.

But his take is, if you’re on an RCD protected circuit the chances of you coming to serious harm are so remote as makes no odds. You’ll get a jolt, a bloody good fright but killed, no unless you’ve a pre-existing condition that would likely kill you if you touched the wrong terminals on a decent battery.

If you don’t check it’s on a protected circuit, your bad.

If you don’t check and you do something dumb, guess what?

If you take a punt and it all goes wrong, guess what?

I tend to check now. Getting zapped may well give the old ticker a jolt and get the juices flowing but honestly, I can live without the trauma.

Re: how and have i been lucky ?

I think we’ve all had a belt one time or several.

As the Pink Floyd album title stated all down to a, momentary lapse of reason.

Just lucky I guess that the RCD saved you and sometimes it’s not really your fault, most times I expect it just comes down to making assumptions that prove to be false.

Wouldn’t worry about it too much though, gives the heart a jolt and reminds you not to be so damned stupid. 😉

Great if it works. In marketing claptrap anyway.

Who’s going to fix it when it doesn’t and, there are times it will not?

The service stuff would seem to point to connectors to or the control board being faulty but I can’t find that board listed anywhere, looks as if there’s been no use of it to date.

But I’d expect to be pretty expensive.
