I used your copy this AM, caused a fire and I`ve spent the last few hours having my arm burns sorted.

Can I send the court details to your address or would you prefer your solicitors office. 👿

You all should have mentioned at least your crimping tool. 😆

    Re: Its Official Then

I based that opinion on the amount of insurance assessments I do and the amount of memo`s I receive regarding safety issues and modifications added to some conversations with Electrolux management regarding there wiring looms and there obsession with terminal connections.

Remember when rewiring use the crimping tool and don`t twist the copper, never work on an appliance live and never never wiggle connectors when removing them.

Electrolux are one of the worse in my opinion.

    😉

Most of them will be Electrolux, Bosch and Hotpoint.

Also avoid it if the fridge/consumer unit is in the locked garage that the mother in law has no key for and happens to be full of xmas food.

And the owners left for the weekend away via Easyjet.

Its never happened tooooo me, but you have to be aware. 😳

    Re: Subcontracting-whats a fair price?

No if I`m in their house and I`m contracted by Bosch and have no other Bosch brand appliance the rest is fair game.

Did one last week called about there fridge and did there cooker hood too. 😆

Took over a £100 in one visit.

The hood part although different make to the Bosch had the same motor which I had on my van. 😆

What is the difference between contract work and normal, at least with contract work you no what your getting.

Also how many calls do guys do for free, do you charge a call out ?

I get paid on every call, more or less, but if you call to a normal call and like my whirlpool FF i did yesterday found the PCB faulty within 5 minutes and found the part is over £180 just to buy, what do you charge the client, £80 call out, nope your luck to justify £20, as you`ve only been there 20 minutes.

So yes the same as my local garage who`s labour charge is £40 an hour.

You`d be hard pressed as a low level tech, lets face it we are not University educated Engineers, we are Technicians and that is stretching it, so justifying an income more than the UK average is going to be difficult.

I`d love to earn £100 an hour, but I didn`t stay in school long enough.

I`m happy on my small £70 an hour income. 😉

Cant it be placed on this site.

I`m sure a huge disclaimer will secure UKW liability from any resulting deaths.

    Re: Subcontracting-whats a fair price?

    I have.

Combine that with my own accounts, its not an issue. 🙂

I also don`t have to spend much on advertising as I get calls from clients I`ve visited on contract calls for their other appliances.

neptune wrote:Talking of false claims by manufacturers, the thing I often think about is spin speeds. When did anyone last use a tachometer to measure the speed of a spinning drum. Any engineer will tell you that the life of a bearing is inversely proportional to the square of its speed. In other words , double the speed , and reduce the bearing life to 1/8. So how come we still use the same size bearings as when drums spun at 500RPM?

All I got to say is materials. :rolls:

Its been 6 hrs since I called and I`m still furious.

The unit looks brand new, its their spare appliance in the spare room, its frustrating only getting a cal lout when the repair would be soooo easy.

I even pointed them to Currys Part master site to prove I wasn`t taking the p888 as I`m sure they believed I was trying to make £200 profit, it was a big house with a well off client.

You know, those bits of wire near the main switches by the front door or under the stairs. 😉

Or is it the one in the power station. 😥
