I for one have never joined DASA, and this has just highlighted and proved what many in the industry believe, that this group is nothing more than an old boys club full of impotence and as such has as much power as a fart from a disabled cow.
Thank you Ade and UKW for high lighten it into a wider audience.

One thing that has come clear to me at least reading the info on 0800 is that the current management team seem to be hell bent on reaching their targets, speed seems to be the order of the day.
There fingers seem to be going into every pie around, with the first retail outlet opened and more planned, selling everything, next thing you know your local expert will delivering pizza’s.
That rings some pretty loud warning bells.
Long term future in current guise not great, Directors selling 0800 and make large profit, most probable.

As you are not qualified by law you cannot be responsible in law for missing the incorrect location of the appliance etc, the responsibility is that of the installer or the last Competent Person who worked on the appliance, the client also has a responsibility to insure a competent person works on the appliance, but as with all things legal, not always enforced.
Don’t listen to Myths, that is why so many so called Competent People fail to understand the basics.
As for the doom that will happen.
3 months ago I attended a range appliance that had a gas leak, the owner called a Gas qualified engineer who was a friend of a friend, he identified the appliance as being the cause of the leak, didn’t isolate the appliance, the client had kept the kitchen window open during the day, to be safe.
She contacted Gas Safe for advice, I got called to the appliance, done the report etc.
No receipt was left, client paid £65.00 call out, No Notice issued, no Supplier contacted, no warning labels attached, Nada.
Gas Safe guy is still registered, was given a warning and instructed to retrain within 6 months.
Gas Safe need further powers to be effective.

Again, this is becoming boring.
To become qualified you’ll need to sit
CCN1-Core Domestic Gas Safety Criteria, then you’ll need
CKR1-Install, Exchange,Disconnect, Service, Repair, Breakdown and Commission Domestic Gas Cooking Appliances.Any Competent person can repair a dual fuel appliance providing no gas joint/fixing/component is removed, undone, replaced or disturbed.
So its perfectly safe to replace an electrical component on a gas appliance.
A Gas Engineer is deemed competent and therefore required to check FSD function etc etc, but a non competent person is not required to as there not responsible in law for any issue if they have not carried out any work beyond their competences.

Wondered where it went.
I placed it there due to the fact Pacifica has a huge amount of info on there and whilst it is completely illegal for them to share, I have heard on the grapevine that potentially there could be a conflict of interest for one organisation and an alternative is being sourced as a precaution.

I support Ade, for what that’s worth as apparently I’m full of s888, not that thats the first time I’ve been told by a disgruntled independent working for JTM 😆 , the fact this is a closed forum, no public is aware of our comments, so no liability issue, although it would be great if this could be moved the public domain, in doing so improving the public’s ability to judge for themselves, I’m guessing the amount of grief Pacifica would bring down on UKW would be huge.
Yes we are in a free market place, but do we want to go the same way as local shops, who get put out of business by the likes of Tescos, who are currently opening Metro style shops, the small business then cannot compete, its 0800/Repaircare plan to dominate the market place and eventually make themselves the obvious choice for consumers, who ultimately won’t have an option to use Ade or the rest of you, as you’ll all be working in call centers.
Change is coming, local repairers are becoming few and far between and those relying on JTM for work, well you should be able to work your prospects out, time to start saving for your franchise. :rotfl:

Jackal wrote:Lee8, I don’t believe you. I am the agent for 0800 repair and JTM in Ades area so give me the customers details to verify your claims or remove them.
I am not aware of any compliant outstanding or otherwise and we have not completed any job recently involving a repair as you describe.
Given your previous on other threads regarding your thoughts about 0800 and JTM are you sure your not just expanding reality to fit an argument you want to make
I look forward to receipt of the details or retraction of what I consider a liabilous comment.
Jackal
I cannot be specific on a Forum, for obvious reasons and of course i’m not mentioning details, so no liability involved, if your the JTM/0800 you’ll be notified in due course, if not then you won’t.
Frankly couldn’t give a four ex if you believe or not. 😆

Today a JTM engineer failed to secure the 2 screws into the soap dispenser box after replacing the fascia PCB.
Result one very wet floor damaged enough for it needing me to meet the insurance assessor and replacement floor, one really p888 off client.
I’m not a hero, I’m employed by various organizations to assess f888 ups by peeps.
I believe peeps such as Ade are providing a great service, local repair, fast friendly, blah blah blah.
Get rid of JTM, 0800, Repaircare and start building your own company from scratch, don’t take the lazy boy approach and work for them, your only being exploited, they’ll make the money, not you, and if you cannot build a business, maybe you should think about a job in Asda’s stacking shelves, although some of the muppets I’ve witnessed this week working for JTM would probably fail to do that right.
PS both those examples are in Ades area, I’m sure had the client not been influenced by the flash web ad they may well have picked Ade instead and not required me, no on second thoughts keep them going otherwise I’m out of a job 🙁

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
I did a call yesterday, 3 comet Engineers, 6 months still not repaired, bent and dented door and side panels, broken feet and a damaged floor later I get called in.
To fit a circ pump capacitor and replace leaking drain pump on a Baumatic BDW45.
Its not just 0800, company engineers or independents, I get calls like these everyday fom all the above who have failed to repair basic faults or even access the appliance properly, most of our industry is full of idiots, greedy muppets and d888 leads.
Today a noisy W/M that an independent engineer (JTM appointed) fitted a belt to, I get called and find the muppet put the rear panel on the wrong way, pulley nut worn through the recess that was touching it.
We need something more than DASA or the WTA that’s for sure.
Basic school qualifications would be a start.

Goin back a few pages to the example of 0800 FAQ’s, its not just the DASA info that is written in a one sided misleading way, most of the stuff on there is b8888it.
