I agree with Martin totally.
There is no regulations in-place to make sure indies are doing there job safetly and expertly. Anyone can set up and become a domestic appliance engineer, charge what they like and do what they want. Atleast with 0800 I am regulated. Checked upon and audited. I constantly go to customer were a local guy as attended and not fixed it and charged for not fixing it. Now I know we all make mistakes this is human nature. But it is not human error when and engineer refuses to point blank return to a customer and says on the phone “well it was working when I left” and follows that up with ” well “if it’s not the same fault then I will charge you again” all this does is strike fear into the customer.
If you look on prev posts you will see that “Which magazine” published a story were indies did not come out looking good. Do we just ignore these issues and all jump on the 0800 band wagon.
IMHO and engineer that doesn’t have a meggar in his tool box is not a engineer but relies on guess work that I’m afraid is not a engineer at all.
As I state to my customer. Engineers use experience and science to confirm a fault not I think it’s this or I think it’s that.
Let me say this. At 0800 repair there is no hiding place for poor engineers. There is no room for cowboy engineers. No rip offs and no refuses to go back to a paying customer. 0800 would rather give a refund then have a aguement.
The moral of this story is this. The are far more pressing issues in the trade then 0800 repair. I want to be part of a regulated trade were only qualified engineers are allowed to repair appliances not one were any tom dick of Harry can pitch up.
If guys are worried about losing work then maybe looking closer to home will give you the answers you need in being able to keep your work. 0800 would never be able to steel YOUR satisfied customers, could they?

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint – Indesit Fridge Freezer Fires
So is selotape not a good repair tool??? Ok I will switch to duck tap instead. I suppose blue tac is also frowned upon as well. Only joking.
Didn’t really think quality and Hotpoint could be used in the same sentence. Oh well you live and learn.

ParticipantRe: Servis UK (Antonio Merloni) Bust!?
Jackal. I was only joking, Merloni uk an whitegoods servicing both owed me money. I got most of it in the end but they tried on many occasions to hold me to ransom. I ordered 10 fridge fans from my own supplier in order to complete there calls (by there request). I would have to keep putting there account on hold until they would pay me more of what they owed me. When servis went bust they owed me £4000. I managed to get this down to £500 by playing the game with Whitegoods servicing. In the end I got a letter from Whitegoods servicing asking how much I believed they owed me. I told the solicitors that I couldn’t be bothered anymore so to give the £500 to charity or divide it up between the guys that were owed more money then me.

ParticipantRe: Exploding Candy Washing Machines
Are customers not aware that they use explosives so that every few years you have to buy a new one. Or maybe instead of indesits that ring an engineer candy’s just self destruct when there is a fault. A bit like the black hawk that the navy seals blow up when getting bin laden. If they let an indy look at it we will learn there technology. 😀

Lmao. Why would I want you to be frightened. People can make their own mind up about your rant.
I will not lower myself into being dragged into a personal slaging match. One thing I will say though is that your personal attack on me is bang out of order. You have brought shame on your website and dragged this topic to a new level.
On that note I’m out.

You do have and have been afforded exactly the same rights as anyone else on here but, time after time the only thing you can resort to doing is to deflect the argument onto it being a WTA problem or you have a pop at me personally. That’s fine, but enough’s enough and I will now really take the gloves off if that’s the way you want to play this and, it appears that is the way you want it.
If that’s the case them stop shooting down those who disagree.

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
I have posted and re-posted the crb issue you guys have IS I’m told be changed on the website. but if you wish to revisit it ok.
I’ve never done a complete strip down that took 3 hours and I would never allow a customer to leave me in a house alone crb or not.And the customer would ring 0800 first and 0800 would deal it. The engineer would at my guess be suspended and a full investigation would take place. And I would think that the customer would call the police.
Do dasa crb check engineers?? Can I also ask as any individual ever been removed from dasa membership??
Ken. I understand your point fully doesn’t mean I agree that is your opinion and I respect that. Let me ask you this. If I was a member of WTA would it be ok to criticise the company I work for is that how the WTA would look after me?
Are franchises not welcome at WTA because we don’t fit in?
Do we not have the same rights as you guys?
Were is my place in the “Trade”?If Joe bloggs started repairing appliances and spent 30k on marketing would this be a problem for the “trade”. Or would the trade embrace this guy.
I did not any point think that the indys would be over joyed of the arrival of 0800. Of course not. But way back when you started this thread you told me on here that I would find no support on here for a company that “steals work”. Well that is incorrect. I’m sure as the owner of this site you can check the pm’s, I have quite a few of the showing support. You have also shot down anyone on here who has disagreed with attacking 0800. We know how your stall is set out.
Freedom of speech is how it should be. Haven’t got a problem with that. But when people try and dig dirt and read between the lines to try to discredit, This is were I have the problem. When I have say something inaccurate you jump on me when someone else does the same about 0800 you let it ride. So I brought to the table the involvement of the WTA and this website and called into question if it is morally right to sl@g off another member of the trade on a trade forum (freedom of speech or not) So I flung a bit at there direction and got the reaction I wanted. So it’s ok to attack 0800 but not something like the WTA?
Wouldn’t it have been better for washdoc as a upstanding member of the trade to have voiced his concerns about the website directly to 0800. Before running to asa.?? It seems that the way to do it is to try and discredit a rival.
I never expected the indys to be glad of the emergence of 0800 but I didn’t expect all this at all. Tbh I joined the franchise because of their marketing power. I didn’t want to miss the boat and thought it was a great idea, I knew them anyway as I was an agent and I liked there ethics.
I would never dream of attacking a rival on here unless there were ripping customers off and or putting customers at risk. A few weeks ago we had someone on here saying that he went to a fridge that’s was repaired by a franchise and it exploded . Turned out to be a pack of lies. I’m the nearest franchise and 0800 never recieved any complaints of a exploading fridge. I also checked all the local websites on his patch again no press coverage of a said exploding fridge. Is it no coincidence he hasn’t posted since on this thread.
No one said a word to him on here and that WAS slander.
Facts are fine but bullsh/t is not cool.

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
There are only misleading because you want them to be. You are digging for dirt simple.
If 0800 didn’t have a 7th screwdriver or made a mistake on the wording on a website then you would find some thing else to have a go at. But you guys didn’t expect a franchise to come on here and give a different perspective.
Isn’t this like the manufactures beliving all the customers are there. You guys believe it’s yours. Sorry chaps but the customers decide that.
0800 provide work for staff and give work to indys. That should be applauded not condemned, yeah they make mistake so do we all.
As for attacking the WTA. Sorry but as others have said they associate with this site and slagging of members of the trade should be a big no no.
Just because you don’t like it ken doesn’t change what people think.
As for washdoctors right to email a TA that he decided to leave for me that just appears to be arrogant. If he wasn’t happy then he should have tried to change within. Not sling mud from the outside. I notice that dasa still haven’t removed the “only trade association ” bit from the website. Better send another email .

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
Fact and my opinion. Please read back as I have already said I speak only for my self.
Just because washdoctor you are in the trade does that really give you the right to question others in the trade especially opinions on a ta that you are not a member of. If you don’t like the way dasa is run then what’s the problem you are not in dasa.
Someone said on here the other day that based on this thread no one will buy a franchise or join the WTA well at the moment there are six people looking at this thread. I can’t recall seeing many more then that before it’s the same people who post on this thread and we all know what you all think. This is only important for the guys that have posted. No one else cares I’m afraid.
There are hundreds and hundred of appliance engineers out there. In all my years doing this I never felt the need to join dasa or WTA. Nor have I been invited. Does anyone really represent the trade when only a fraction of the trade are members of either TA. I know many engineers who are self employed none are members of either TA. So nothing on here is going to shake the trade to it’s roots.
Washdoctor Nothing you say or do will stop 0800 repair. They won’t get fined by the asa if found guilty they will just tell 0800 repair to change it. Personally I think you are wasting your time but of course it is your time to waste.
I do not tell people how to run their business nor do I believe I have the right too just because I’m in the trade. Maybe I should but what I do know is I don’t have the time.Obviously you are concerned about your own work so you have dug and dug to find the dirt. You points have been made over and over and I have responded over and over.
We are at a stalemate so how do we move this on. Or are we just going to keep posting the same questions.
Whirl what part of my post did you not like. So sorry if I don’t agree with what I say I promise to bow down to your demands of me and change my opinion to yours. -
