No, probably still brushes. Would fail when tries to turn at higher speeds during rinse/spin.

Most likely cause is door interlock or on/off button gone – which could have also damaged the PCB. 75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of time it will be interlock – BUT it could be loads of components. Best to get an engineer out for this as they will have the spare parts to try without costing you P&P each time. Plus they will possibly work on machine live with multimeter to determine problem which isn’t recommended unless you know what you are doing.

I would suspect the “motor” sound you’re hearing is actually the valves opening – is it a “buzzing” sort of sound? Have you checked that there are no kinks in the inlet hose(s) and that there is water pressure to the machine? No water going in would cause machine to abort programme about two mins into wash.

    😆 How did you know?

Thanks loads for all your help though, really appreciated (a bit new to this game and first time I’ve come across such a new Hotpoint!).

If you are ‘new to this game’ and this is not actually your own machine then you may not know that what you have is an Indesit machine in a Hotpoint shell. 😥

If you are in any way in the trade then apply for trade access and you will have a goldmine of help and information. 😉

BTW. Penguin45 may share the same name as you, what a coincidence. 😀
I knew Indesit now own Hotpoint and loads of others, but all the machines I’ve worked on to date have been WMs or WMA, never got one that has been totally sealed like this.

I’ve applied for trade access though, so thanks for that. This machine belongs to a family member, though, hence why I can have a bit of an explore without using a customer’s machine 🙂

Re: Hotpoint WT540 – bearings – sealed drum?

Thanks for your help and quick reply – I guess Hotpoint have really gone downhill then if they’re welding the tubs shut now. Will their engineers definitely replace the tub if I call them out then, not just write it off and charge me a call out anyway?

    Thanks,

    Kit
