Richard Snr, do you want to become a member. If so, PM me your details. You are among a few who recognise things as they should be.
We all should work together for the benefit of all, DASA should (to my mind) help those who want to become better at their job, improve their standard and quality and encourage such. For those who have upped their standard, we should encourage them to join. I agree the benefits are few, but this does not mean we have not tried to give benefits to members it is just they have not taken them up, and this is not an Association that say’s they must.
We have many faults but also many good points, Del and I have tried to point some good ones out but it is only human nature to point out the bad ones.
As andy_art_trigg say’s If HMG make Legislation of DASA’s code of practice our cup would runneth over. But we have to keep ourselves in that position otherwise those who know nothing of our trade would run it, and I doubt any one jack of us would want that.
DASA has to be their for the potential of being the best our trade can offer in our field all I ask is for all readers of this to try and understand DASA does its level best for this trade just as does UKW.
I am now off to the pre-meeting of DASA’s AGM, I hope to see some of you over the next 24hours or so. I look forward to reading the ongoing posts upon my return.

Thanks for the info Kevin appreciated, now I understand more fully my friend thanks for your time. Dam missed the boat again just my luck. 😥 😥
Having just re-read all the items in this thread, I applaud every one for you time thoughts and considered comments. I only hope the higherarcy (the Officers) have taken note of all comments and will consider them for Friday’s pre AGM meeting. 🙄
We have an awful lot to take on board and I sincerely hope we implement some not all of these suggestions and ideas. 😉
Once again I agree with Dels comments, he is an outstanding Council member and I applaud him.
I personally would like to see Kevin come back on board (up to the Officers again 😕 ) he has brought fresh ideas to the meetings and I personally think we at DASA have for one reason or another missed either the point or boat (more likely the boat) on Network DASA
All decisions taken at DASA meetings are voted on and passed accordingly, I cannot recall Network DASA being voted on to be put on the back burner or to be left to one side. I thought having never heard any more, it had died when Kevin left. DASA has missed a BIG opportunity here and we should kick ourselves up the jaksy. I would like it to be re-chased and followed up and through, this is what I thought might be done by those upstairs but I now know different.
I find that Del and myself have been fighting DASA’s corner here, but I know we are being watched by the Officers and not any comment from them, I am truly saddened by this. 😥
I am not disenchanted by all the feedback in this thread I have seen it as a challenge for DASA to get to grips with. Most certainly a talking point.
I will miss Dave C at the AGM and any others whom I have met and cannot make it for one reason or another. I shall drink to your continued health (phew I can save some money on the bar bill). 😈 😈
Before I close this short note! I will be interested in the comments post AGM. Should we continue on this thread or start another called DASA post AGM. Now there is a novel thought.

Appboy will you be attending the AGM on Saturday? 😮
If yes then great 😆
If no then why? 😕 And this could be the reason why members in past years and the present time may not attend. You correctly point out what Kevin has done, but this in different guises has been done many times well before Kevin appeared on the scene, and just a few Council members take up the challenge. Me, I phoned Kevin up the following day after one meeting earlier in the year, and I offered my services as volunteers were ask for, and I was told all the ten places were taken up, so there is something going on, or was going on, I just never had the opportunity despite attending the meetings.
By the way, Del hit the nail head on with his version of an asscociation, well done that man. People should read that post and digest what you have written and not pass it over, Del I am proud of you.

ParticipantRichard,
I feel humbled by your comments, we may never have met but your response is moving. You are correct as far as I can tell; DASA was formed from Zanussi Agents well before CH became involved. To the best of my understanding these Zanussi Agents wanted to start a Quality Association and so banded together to form such. Richard Dally would be able to fill us in more. For I became a member after CH was brought in.
If I recall correctly (someone please correct me if I am wrong) CH was brought into DASA for the reason of members did not have the time to spend on DASA matters as they wanted, sound familiar anyone.
I am also very disappointed DASA in not recognised by HMG as Corgi is, but apparently not as many people die of electrical shocks etc as they are by gas. I think this attitude is appalling when we in the trade are trying our utmost to improve Quality etc. We have only to read on UKWG to see this.
I think if DASA was recognised we would have a load of erm well let me say big egos at the top and quite possibly you could include me in that bracket, so in a way we should be grateful we are not, and if we at any time get there then we must not lose sight of what we are trying to do (unlike a certain Assc related to the dog family).
Anyway, welcome to UKW Richard and help keep some of us on the ground (especially me) for Ken is perfectly correct when he says this is a very emotive subject.
I am glad to have met Martin, otherwise we may well have misunderstood each other and I do appreciate his comments and Martin I will mention it to the Officers when we meet this coming Friday before the AGM.
I must mention before I close for the night some officers do read and will read this with interest and I hope as an Association we can move forward.

ParticipantMartin my friend you will get my vote for Chairman.
If you can do all you say I will rebate your subs personally and in public, I have a feeling I may seem pedantic here but I will do what I say. If you can change DASA the way you say and in the time you say it will be worth every coin I would pay you.
I have tried this in the past and so has Kevin bless his cotton socks (how I love that man, after a drink or three).
One prob here though we have to sneek you past the Officers. To answer Kevin’s question of the trial bla, bla , bla, I would honestly accept Kev straight off as well as you Martin.
Oh by the way I agree with Del.

Participantwhen your dishwasher fills and the wash motor is supposed to function and it appears to be a no go, try switching off the appliance and listen very carefully near the base. If you here a wherring noise, it is quite possible you would need a new motor for the existing one is turning but the fan that pushes the water round has come off and this cannot be rectified.
Note; this test should be carried out in total peace and quiet so you can here the noise.

ParticipantWe had a phone call the other day, some woman saying her BI double oven not working at all, she has checked the manual (instruction book) out and tried all it recommended. It would not go, no grill, no fan, nothing zilch. Wendy asked if it was on automatic timer, her reply was no it is not, definitely not, no way. Wendy politely asked to go and check just in case and asked her to let us know what happens, the customer said she was at work and would go home straight away and check. The customer duly phoned back and said yes the oven was on automatic and she could not understand how this could be, her husband had last used it and he had not touched anything he should not have.
The customer said she it had cost her on lost time at work but at least the oven is now working, Wendy replied it would have cost you more if we had come and just pushed a button in to which she replied oh I agree and thank you for your help I will use your company again.
We have this occurring a lot of the time with ovens.

ParticipantRe: DASA
Gentlemen,
It is so easy to criticise, and avoid answering questions given to Kevin. However, Del has put it far better than I what is happening in DASA at this time.
DASA may or may not be in a state of decline, only the future will see.
As a wise old Chinese man once said “a tree is not dead unless you dig it up or stop feeding it”. It is the same with any business/organisation/club or anything that involves any membership including UKWG.
By digging it up means in our case, putting DASA down especially when you know it will do most harm. Even more so when you know it is trying to improve. I appreciate what Kevin say’s but let us all face it, sometimes we only hear what we want to hear and this can happen both way’s, if Kevin had attended the meetings since he would be aware that DASA is hearing and trying to do something about it. Granted it is slow compared to UKW but that is the nature of a trade association and Kevin is aware of this.
Stop feeding it means in our case, non-positive approaches and putting in digs here and there. This is all too easy when you are an ex member, please remember peoples Kevin left DASA, granted he grafted for DASA and was extremely pro DASA and went out of his way for DASA, so the question is why does he now seem anti DASA??
All responses since my posting I have read with interest, and I know DASA is trying to address all those and much much more. It is most difficult to put down in righting what we are doing, it is for this reason and for the members to see for themselves what DASA is doing and so attend the AGM.
I would like to thank on my own behalf Kevin, for bringing this to the fore, let us get this out into the open and start to do things in a positive and forward motion. Kevin may have thought I have been an old, how can I put it politely AH yes and oldtog that is it better that an old breaking wind person, and quite possibly I am, but I have always had DASA’s best interests at heart. That also means the membership, it is hard to provide lets say insurance for our members (which was the going thing when I joined) when our members are happy with the Insurance they have already, we even tried cheaper fuel costs and the take up on that was minimal. We even become involved in NVQ’s and look where that got us. The only thing that has seemed to work is Ted’s (Hayfielding) appliance insurance, even this has not been widely used, and it helps all members in a direct way, they earn from the sale of the cover and royalties when renewed, also members can charge their own rates when called out to do the repair, how much better that can be for our members but again most do not take this up!! What more can DASA do if members do not want to take up offerings, we cannot make them nor want to, but it has all been there for them.
Regarding the issue of Mr & Mrs Public, it has never been the intention of DASA to promote itself to them, plus the cost would run into Millions to do so. So DASA has concentrated on the trade to put our members in a position where the trade would ask DASA for names of our members as and when required, also DASA has made a small profit for doing this and why not I say. NOW if our members want us to go public then OK, here is one way we can do this. We All advertise in Yellow pages that being a member of DASA Means Quality work by Proficient repairers, next We All Advertise in ALL the Local news Papers exactly the same thing, NEXT WE ALL ADVERTISE IN ALL MAGAZINES, ARTICLES, PROMOTIONS, NATIONAL PAPERS (each and every one of them) ETC,ETC.
Some how I do not think this would be a bit practical do you?
So we leave out this idea until we can afford it on a sensible scale and continue to do the best we can with what we have. This includes the new guy on the block UKWG and thanks to Ken for this. UKWG has been like a breath of fresh air and what it is doing is fine, but as I seem to recall UKWG does not want to get involved in the DASA area. If I am wrong then I apologise for any misunderstanding on my behalf.
So while I agree there is much to do for DASA and hearing your voices and comments is great, but please remember nothing is as straight forward as it seems, DASA is working hard for the membership but we now want forward thinking and postiveness from you.
By the way I am not the Chairman of DASA and I do not want to be so. But this should really come from the top and not from a mere member of the Committee. May this be my only gripe.
The one and only Oldtog (Braveheart thanks Del a nice thought)
PS by the way if any one thinks I do not like Kevin I do he is a nice bloke I listen to all he says with great interest. I would welcome Kevin back to DASA any time.
