An earth loop test would be more useful than an IR test
You really need to have more knowledge about earthing and protection systems before you can say whether or not it is safely earthed.
.I actually intend on gaining schooling on domestic electrical work. My cousin is a spark and he offered me some mate work, so I may take him up on that a day or two a week.
The within two metre from the cooker thing, is that mandatory? I checked everywhere around the kitchen for an isolation switch.

It’s not my trouble, surely? But yeah, no isolation switch and the switch in the CU labelled ‘cooker’ didn’t turn off the power to the cooker. The shocks were from when they had a different cooker installed.

I did only use 250v and cookers should be on their own main supply, shouldn’t they? They have their own fuse and a supply that runs separately to the ring main.

ParticipantRe: rangemaster cooker
Can’t remember with any certainty how you take the top off.
Shouldn’t the example you describe turn both rings on in one direction, and only one ring on in the other direction?

Isn’t that the type that requires you to turn the selector switch clockwise until it clicks, before the larger outer element comes on?

Can anyone fix me up with a link to the instructional video that was temporarily available on Youtube?

ParticipantRe: JTM struggling?
Their intention is to become the largest repair company in the country. Had a nice chap from them call me about applying to work for them. He said they have British Gas work, I said no thanks. Never again will I entertain BG jobs.

Can anybody please tip me off as to which work providers are helping Whirlpool with this modification? Thanks.

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool top loader drive.
I’ve always done these from underneath. But then I am very slim.

ParticipantRe: Recommends needed on a few things please
Last place I worked used a basic 500v digital Megger.
There’s plenty on eBay, but I’m cautious of buying from there.
Thanks for the advice so far.

IR tester is needed because I don’t own one as some thieving scumbag broke into my van years ago. Since I returned to the trade, my employers provided me one. Now I’m coming back into the trade, I need my own again.

ParticipantRe: Service management software
I’ve only ever used one, so I can’t really benchmark against anything else, but I found it absolutely awful, and I would strongly recommend avoiding it. It was called Servicemate Solutions.

ParticipantRe: Phillips-Whirlpool AWG997PH – parts list required
I don’t, sorry. But I vividly remember the modification.

That model was issued with a safety modification on the dryer element unit. It involved cutting into the silver paper insulation and installing new thermostats and a bracket.

Martin, I’m not telling anyone to do anything, everybody can do what they like but I am entitled to my opinion just as you are.
K.
Really? What about their ‘service partner’ system from a few years back, do Whirlpool still operate like that?
Anyway, thanks for replying.
