The display module has failed to detect or monitor the water level switch. Check for poor/broken connections, failing that, the display board must be replaced.

Power off if investigating inside the machine.

That code is that the machine does not detect a drop in water level within the allowed time. Doesn’t really tie in with what you’ve described so far. Anyway, you should check that the pump is in circuit, has continuity through it, and is not blocked. Failing that, the harness back to the computer needs to be checked. Last resort is the computer board itself.

Re: washing machine fire – possible cause?

    This was quite exciting:

To be serious, it is very rare for any appliance to literally go up in smoke these days. Almost always caused by electrical problems – poor connections generating heat, plastic switches overheating and certain filling problems which can allow the heater to be activated when not immersed in water are the common reasons. Most of these will fizzle and melt rather than igniting, so it is a most unusual event.

Go into Forums, then Profile and upload from there. It’s just about the only way that works.

The door seal on your machine is held by a wire band at the front (retaining screw at about 8 o’clock) and a second band on the tub front. This may be a screw clamp, a snail drive or a latch over type – you won’t know ’til you get in there. You will also need an enormous tyrap for securing the funnel to the dryer inlet duct.

Patience does the job, power off before doing anything.

We just aren’t allowed to play with Arklone anymore. That’d degrease anything, including the rest of your life. Well, probably – nasty stuff.

The 5p coin is small enough to get through the filter and into the pump itself. Strange noises ensue………

Power off if investigating, or check repairs@ or Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.

Contact spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for the spares. I would seriously recommend getting the triangular pulley insert as well; this wears microscopically and will cause the exact symptons you have described.

    Re: WMA34 sump tank….

Right, do it properly. Drain hose down into a washing up bowl until all flow stops. With the lower rear access panel removed, you will be able to see a black hose exiting the bottom of the drum, retained by a large jubilee clip. Undo this, pull down the hose and extract the filter. Thoroughly clean, check hose for anything that’s got through and re-assemble.

All to be done with the power off, of course.

No doubt there will be howls of outrage in the Trade forums in the morning about giving people too much information.

If you’re not sure, or wish to save me earache, check repairs@ or Directories for a UKW engineer in your area.

    Re: F&P GW708U Noisy Bearings!

The bearings and seals are replaceable, but require the use of special tools – walloping them out with a lump hammer and drift will damage the tank.

Probably time for some pro help.
