ParticipantRe: faulty machine??
What machine are we actually talking about? I think I’ve managed to deduce that it’s a washer dryer (bit of a pig in a poke to start with) – please supply make and preferably model number. Then we’ve got a starting point for a discussion.

Don’t get me wrong here, we don’t want anybody dropping out, we want the independant trade to thrive, survive and grow. The more we get in here, the more the word will spread and the more influence we can project.
Rantings? I think we’d all love to know how our trade in the UK compares with the situation in Oz – what issues do you have going on down there? Maybe a new topic though?
Ken should be able to forward you a copy of the mailout.
Anyway, late, knackered, going to bed.

Ooh Alexa – well put, lots of nails hit on heads.
Couple of things to consider. DASA is going through a rebuilding period after the last few disastrous years, and we need to leave them to get on with it and hopefully come back stronger and ready to fill the space that UKW doesn’t (and quite frankly doesn’t want to) fill. We’re leaving them to it and wish them well.
The generally accepted estimate is that there are about 30,000 people directly involved in repairing appliances in the UK. We had about 450 trade members on the site at the last count. As you may be aware, that number is hopefully rapidly rising due to the mail-out to Yellow Pages advertisers, so the UKW message of “don’t work for nowt” will be spread further. As things stand, there are plenty of UK repairers who are blissfully unaware of UKW and what it is trying to achieve. There are 33 repairers in Leeds in YP – 2 of us are in here, and one of them is an employer whose engineers aren’t (and it isn’t me…). Point is there are plenty of people on their own, no big picture, edging towards desparation on the basis that volume equals income, rather than realising that volume eqals slow extinction in several circumstances.
Unfortunately, these businesses will die out through uninformed stupidity. The more we pull in here, the more the word will spread and the more likelyhood we can change the situation.
BTW, if we “show and tell” on someone, it would have to be absolutely watertight and proven or there won’t be a UKW next week!

Very simple solution to contact corrosion – grease. Plenty on the switch contacts will keep the steam off, and it won’t conduct. Your switch is in a little box, so any excess won’t drip into the drum.

ParticipantRe: changing bearings on ariston AB1036T
Er, so which bit of “We can’t go into specifics” was the problem then?
Wicksy, you are quite welcome to follow Easy Fix It’s advice – bear in mind that he is not a UKW member, and we cannot vouch for his technical abilities in any way. Sufficed to say that both bearings should always be changed as good practice. Be extremely cautious of the edges around the rear panel – safety gloves are an excellent idea.
Parts may be obtained promptly through spares@ukwhitegoods.com.
Good luck, safety first.

Jim had a white and red rose, then went on to the imp and the penguin.
I don’t see a point in turning the option off, just a bit of common sense as well as taste and decency should apply.

Well done.
Needless to say, the above procedure should be carried out with the power off. :plug:

ParticipantRe: Indesit Dishwashers and their Problems
All this hilarity is all very well, but we’d better answer the question.
A03 is a fault with the temperature sensor – can be sensor, wiring or computer board.
A13 is a failure on the computer board to trigger the soap dispenser. As these are both potentially complex issues to resolve, it’s probably engineer time.
