We KEEP getting broken wires at the pump plug with this range – this breaks the neutral loop and prevents fill. Dave’s probably right.

The right hand device is the thermostat, the left hand one is a single shot thermal safety device – it replaces the microtemp device of the earlier heater.

    Amanda,
Please help us help you. I assume that we’re talking about a dishwasher (float switch); so the logical conculsion is that the undertray is flooded and needs draining, then the leak must be found.

If you would put up your model number and even better the serial number (Its on a label around the door) we can be a bit more specific.

    Re: 2005 New Year Resolution

For what it’s worth Martin, I’ve never been VAT registered and the bulk of my work is property based. I’m sorry that your contract hasn’t worked out – I must say that we work it in a different way. Once a year we write a letter to our “Major” property clients with this years rates and re-assure them that everyday we hold 4 slots a day for property work only. If we happen to be a bit busy Julia tells them that today’s slots are already gone and we’ll get them in tomorrow.

If we take an example of, say, Morgans; they average out at 30 – 35 calls a month. That’s £11/1200 a month in labour before parts. They manage 4,500 properties, turning £800-1200 per month, so say £450,000 per month (we ARE in the wrong business). They don’t want unhappy tennants on the phone, they want a quiet life – what I do for them really is small beer and the fact that I’m not VAT registered is really irrelevant in the great scheme of things. The real beauty of it is that Morgans pay ME, then charge it back to the landlord.

Drops in their ocean I suppose is what I’m trying to say…….

    Cheers,
    Chris.

Re: UK Whitegoods Meeting No.4 – Feb 2005

Taken to its logical conclusion, we are hopefully going to see appliance costs rise significantly. There are more pros than cons to this.

Rises in material costs are starting to bite. This will raise manufacturing costs – hopefully the “x5” factor Ken has suggested will apply. The bad news bit is that the material cost factor is not the major cost in production – the human one is (hence the rise of production in minor EU countries and other parts of the world). No doubt this exploitation will allay some of the increases.

The “WEEE factor” will be factored in, and no doubt will be exploited by major retailers as a way of bumping prices.

The good bit (if it all comes together) will be the public paying noticably more for their appliances. I would be prepared to bet that a significant proportion of the buying publics perception of the value of their appliance will change to one of “added value”. Indeed, the idea of paying to throw it away will certainly impact on older people who expect their machines to have a reasonable service life.

No doubt the disposal costs will be forgotten as being part of the purchase cost and be retained as a memory – “It will cost to get rid of this”.

I see no reason to disabuse the public of this notion – we are Repairers after all!

It may well encourage the Public to have machines repaired as opposed to buying new ones, especially if they think the Government, or (even better) Europe are going to get their money!

Think about this, develop a position, let’s try and make some money!

Nope, that’s the mains suppressor. It’s in the bottom of the machine by the drive motor.

Start capacitor failure, Ade. Little white cylinder by the motor – if you can advise the “uF” number Dave will be able to supply for you.

You’re likely to lose your fingers flick starting the fan……….
