ParticipantA neon test screwdiver is not a suitable diagnostic tool for this type of work.
From experience it would suggest a failure of the main computer board, always assuming that all plugs and connectors have been replaced correctly.
I would suggest getting some help – it may be cheaper in the long run – you could be buying and fitting bits forever before nailing it.

ParticipantIf the safety stat’s gone, and the heater’s gone doesn’t this point to a serious overheat problem? I’d get the thermostat checked as part of the repair.

ASD in Morley keep a lot of old stock – 0113 3936688. Might be worth a call if you’ve got the part number.

Participant£330 will get you the Bosch WFO2466 – reasonably quiet and reliable; 2 year warranty, quick wash option and a fair chance of being repaired promptly if it does go wrong!
Just my opinion of course,

ParticipantEr, what upper echelon Richard? What you see is what you get on UKW and it’s a concensus driven thing. Unfortunately, as you have observed, the concensus doesn’t amount to 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the Trade membership, so the way the ship steers is determined by that active group – of which you are a part.
The only echelon bit may be considered the Subscriber Forums, which ultimately exist to give those of us who feel guilty about the huge amount of info we get for free a reason to chip in to the site.
I suspect that you are building up to suggesting the foundation of an alternative Trade body. I don’t have a problem with that, and would be interested in any proposal which arises.
UKW is far more of a flag carrier, lobby group and discussion centre. I would hate to see a manufacturer or work provider or even spares wholesaler being offered “membership” and thus “influence” in a formal set-up. Here at least, you sign up, say what you want and take the consequences. If I want to slag off a product in here I can, and the maker is perfectly entitled to defend themselves and hopefully reasoned debate will ensue. In the other scenario it’s “There goes the corporate membership for next year……..”
I’m very happy with what we’ve got right now, I want to see it grow and I want to see it recognised as an unbiased, independent, crusading body respected by the public, trade and industry alike.
If you’re reading this and you’re NOT joining in – DO SO!

ParticipantProbably not heating (or sensing temperature) – get them out to it – you’re under guarantee……

ParticipantKennedy,
Most modern fridge freezers have a separate timer to deal with defrosting. The problem is that the thermostat will be of a “gas capillary” type – this means a long skinny tube full of gas – a goodly length of which will run OUTSIDE the fridge, and will directly affect the operation of the appliance as it will detect the ambient temperature, as opposed to the temperature of the fridge section. This is where a nice warm kitchen will actually improve the efficiency of your fridge freezer!

ParticipantPublic Diplomats……… :rotl:
It’s going to make the forum front page very long unless we split the existing forums into the new ones. That’ll be a job for someone…… 😯
Overall, it would make a lot more sense – the public do seem to post anywhere almost at random.

ParticipantProbably marginal brush contact – these start off nearly 1.5″ long. The clue is that the motor will run unloaded (belt off).
However there are 2 different motors on this machine.
Brushes for the “Siemens” motor are part number 154740 @ £21.97/pr + vat
Brushes for the “FHP” motor are part number 173028 @ £27.73/pr + vat.If you can identify which motor is fitted Dave Conway should be able to supply you through Shop@ – possibly at a slightly more favourable price!
Hope that’s some use,

ParticipantHinge kit cures it – cheap ….. lots of blood …… bad language – why do we do it…….?

ParticipantWith the machine unplugged, remove the lower front cover, the thermostat is attached right of centre to the underside of the tub towards the front- a small ceramic block with two wires attached.
No real need to tip the machine over – it can cause its own problems.

ParticipantAre we talking about an integrated unit here or a free standing one? Most integrated frost free appliances will vent warm air (providing the ventilation has been set up properly in the first place!!….) through the lower ducts, so a search for integrated fridge freezers should set you on your way.
Free standing units tend to let the heat escape naturally up the rear of the appliance.

ParticipantRe: Opportunity and perception.
Please don’t misunderstand what I said. It’s a safe bet that we all understand that Beko is crap – I’m talking about Public perception of their product – they want it to last – the increase in price may be enough to persuade people to opt for repair rather than replacement – both for chargeable and warranty repairs.
The warranty situation might prove interesting, especially for insurance work – if appliances go up by £30 are they just going to cary on BER’ing or will they be more likely to repair?
Let’s face it, what we want is repairs!
Chris
