ParticipantHa! Well, Martin’s how shall we say… older than most of us on UKW, so we have to explain some of this new stuff to him.
Penguin45? Well, it’s an old joke about the way I walk (How many people do you know who limp on BOTH legs?) and the old birthday – May the Fourth be with you.
As far as your problem is concerned, 2/3 months lag from manufacture to delivery is entirely reasonable. The main thing is that you DID send in the guarantee info? If so, you’re on the system and it won’t matter.
Happy Birthday and good luck.

ParticipantTeeth, Richard, teeth. The AC will have teeth and if necessary WILL use them. That’s the whole point. UKW as a body now is virtually self regulating, it will extend into the eJobs area too. If it doesn’t, the AC is an accountable body and will act.
Those who sign up are agreeing to be regulated by the AC as part of the deal.
Would you wish to be named and shamed on the site? It shouldn’t happen – but it could, and sadly one day probably will. That it will be seen to happen is actually in our favour.
So we’re all going to do it right, aren’t we?

ParticipantIf you are comfortable using a multimeter this is very straightforward, as both thermostats should be normally closed, thus giving a meter reading of virtually 0 ohms. To ensure accurate readings, you do need to split the circuit.
Do nothing without pulling the plug first. :plug:

ParticipantScreeching noises as you have described point to bearing failure. Drum bearings are the most likely culprits, especially as you pointed out metal filings on the pulley spokes.
It is a tank out job on these machines, even us professional don’t like it! Also bear in mind that until dismantled you cannot fully ascertain how much damage has been done.
Time for help or replacement I’m afraid.

ParticipantNot Watchdog. A one off semi-hysterical piece and no follow up is not what we need. An on going campaign featuring “Most Expensive” spares up front on UKW will get attention. How you get a Govt. agency to act though is not something any of us can predict.

ParticipantOn the subject of the form, may I point out that it is difficult to describe what you do as a sole trader. I hold no dealerships, franchises or contracts. We do fix just about anything, to a degree that other Leeds engineers will say “Tecniks? Phone Chris, he does all the wierd ones”.
We run a big, well stocked van and maintain a first time repair rate of over 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. This includes board level on-site repairs. This is all at 10-12 calls a day, 6 days a week.
The form doesn’t let you say that, and therefore looks rather empty. 😥

ParticipantJust don’t leave any of Mr Daniels lying about…
Seriously, there is plenty of info on odours and dealing with them in the forums, downloads and other info sections on the site – check them out.
It is surprising how many of these odour problems end up with the plumbing – the washer and dishwasher are often drained into open pipes, the dishwasher one has low volume of water throughput, modern washers are little better these days. Rather than sniffing the appliances, drag ’em all out and start sniffing round the back. Look for damp areas and discolourations on the floor and perhaps run them all to see if water backs up from the drain pipes.
Good luck, donate any winnings to the Tsunami disaster.

ParticipantI’m not bothered one way or the other about claiming it back. The amount of work directly claimed by the business from the site covers it easily, and eJobs will shortly make it irrelevant anyway.
I have previously had no problems with any deductions simply by presenting the bank statements as part of my return to the accountant. He is a clever chap though.
Overall, I think you give a bit, get a bit.

ParticipantIt’s c.15 years old now Stuart – might be pushing it a bit. The machine IIRC was made by Husquvarna in Sweden for Colston (now Ariston, now part of Merloni). Some of the other trade lads mihgt have some bumf tucked away somewhere but don’t get your hopes up too high.
What sympton are you trying to cure?
