ParticipantMartin,
95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the work is customer direct, and they pay. I’m not bothered how much they pay, it’s their call, and most of the time, they do, ‘cos I’m such a nice chap with the best poker face in the world, ever. Well, have you ever seen a bird with an expressive face? The only time I’m vaguely interested is if I’m building recons (See thread), and that’s MY money. But as you will know; you know where to look when you need to (maybe not manufacturers branded parts, but there are good alternatives out there) – after all, you’re standing the guarantee on this one!
Something wrong here – Scots grandfather and 18 years in Yorkshire – and not worried about spending money? I suppose I’ll never be a millionaire…….
That bumping noise might be him rotating in his grave!Regards,

ParticipantAre you alluding to the partaking of illicit and nefarious substances, perchance? I may have to ask you to accompany me to the station, my lad!

ParticipantJust a thought on this breaking wire business.
How many of us are still making do with the nasty red and blue crimp-on terminals? The truth of the matter is that they offer very poor anti-vibration properties and a relatively poor grip on the wire itself into the terminal. Problem being that the plastic sleeve presents a hard edge for the wire to flex against, so – it breaks!
Some years back I invested in a proper crimping tool, which makes the factory style connections, as well as an extensive selection of suitable connectors.
These came from Vehicle Wiring Products – 0115 9305454 or sales@vehicleproducts.co.uk
Immediate improvement in service life of Hotpoint W/D repairs. A little later, I achieved perfection with the purchase of a Hellerman sleeving kit. This allows you to slip a rubber sleeve over the connector, extending down the wire itself, and moves the flex point away from the hard edge of the connector itself. Result? No breakages!
Given the quantity of this type of repair, I would recommend an investment in these products to everybody.
The Hellerman products (Sleeving, lube oil and interesting tool with fascinating medieval torture possibilities) are available from Radio Spares (http://www.rswww.co.uk) and Maplins.
Do it, or you’ll be doing the repair again in six months time.

ParticipantDid you win then Don? Or did you share in the inch of rain we enjoyed up here?
Good result in the 30 over slog in the Windies. Nice to see Read get a few.
Typing now worse than ever due to screwdriver wound in left flipper, so all for now.

ParticipantIt’s half the fun Martin – there are far fewer makers than brands; so it’s not the name on the box that’s interesting, it’s what’s in the box! Remember the early days of Merloni!? Bendix 7123 / 7124 ? Then the Electras (AWM800/1000). Then Servis, then Whirlpool washers, then washer dryers. Then every bl@@dy obscure built in appliance in the world ever? They started to become the Microsoft of the appliance world!
For my sins, many years ago I was Mister Newpol. And Proline. And Polar Queen, Polar King, Solartronic, Tecnogas, Tecnolec, the original Iberna, Ocean and others. I could tell you the names of the actual manufacturers, but it’s probably all irrelevant these days, cos’ they’ll all have been bought/sold/merged or bankrupted by now. All just names, but when I went on my own, I was armed to the teeth with this goldmine of knowledge. But that was just the tip of the Iceberg!(They were around for a short while as well!)
Who the hell are Zerowatt? And why do they make Bosch and Whirlpool integrated Washer dryers?
What happened to San Georgio – the original Blomberg people?
Why do Brandt deny any connection with the current range of Blomberg machines, but admit to the Ocean ones, both of which are sold by Comet? And both of which come form Brandt!
Who makes the Belling washer? It’s about the only one I haven’t figured out yet!
The list is endless, and we’re the poor schmucks supposed to figure it all out!
Oh well, tomorrow’s another day, and somehow another dollar.
Just don’t get me started on Diplomat/Schrieber/Hygena. It’s probably worth starting a separate Public Help forum just for these dishwashers!Telling myself it’s still fun,

ParticipantI’ve got the workshop manuals on these if you get really stuck. Bob at F+P Service in NZ sent them over about 2 years ago for an import machine I had to sort out.
http://www.fp.co.nz will take you there if you want to try that way!

ParticipantIt’s a Fisher & Pykell smart drive top loader with the direct drive dc motor. It’s a VERY clever piece of kit.
No components listed but the motor control board is listed as p/no 425895P. Contact a Whirlpool spares outlet for ordering.

ParticipantTime out code – water not draining in the time allowed by the processor. Find the blockage, then make sure the heavy deposits are off the crockery before they go in.
If you don’t know what you’re doing, put your post code on the site and one of us will surely help you.

ParticipantWhy are we all so obsessed with prices? We quote the customer retail plus VAT and labour and know we’re getting a discount (You are, aren’t you?), so what does it matter? We’re not paying, the customer is!
I know it’s annoying when you know you’re getting ripped off anyway (electronics for instance and badge jobs when you can’t work out the base model to get the spares direct), but the customer decides.
Personally I’m far more interested in availibity and speed of delivery than price. The only time it’s an issue is when we’re building re-cons and need to maximise margins.

ParticipantWe had a kebab place up here called “MacDonners” who got dragged through the the courts by you know who, and won. The original business had been founded by a Scot in 1966, and the last owner didn’t even hire a lawyer – just went to court and showed the papers with the dates! Got his costs as well – excellent.
He’s retired now and the shop has gone, so I assume the name has now been bought and trademarked by MacDonalds.

ParticipantLooking at the email correspondencs with cafepress, they seem to make to order then ship. I suppose in the UK we’d have to bulk order stock and expect someone to hold it for us – this requires capital investment, and we seem to be a bit light on that front.
Still, Mrs P bought a $200 motherboard recently for some computer she’s making and didn’t pay a penny in duty, as it was a “spare part”.
Funny old world…………
