You still HAVE to change the spider and centre seal as well; or you’re wasting your ( and the customer’s) time and money.

We’ve simply been giving customers the Helpline no. for WMA’s – 0161 442 8677. Hotpoint turn up and replace your entire drum assembly for £85 if you’re out of guarantee. Why should I bother? It may be updated, modified and tweaked; BUT it’s still JUNK.

No wonder Merloni bought them ( and it wasn’t REALLY because Merloni tried to buy Marconi). I’m sure they can recognise fellow cr4p when they see it!!

    Feeling cynical? I am.

I got caught with one of these a few years back. If its got those horrible ‘rectangular’ crimped together suspa legs, check that the friction block is still in the leg. Excessive movement (ie spinninig with a partial blockage) can cause the friction pad to drop out and it’s completely impossible to refit. The worst bit is that the damper looks completely unscathed, but just doesn’t work, as you still get minor resistance from the way the thing is assembled ……..

    Check it out,

Just been doing a bit of checking, there appear to be four boards and seven (!) different Eprom chips. We’re not in with much of a chance, are we?

The C5 used the old Hoover 800 dc (!) motor if I remember correctly and a rheostat connected to the old module for speed control. Must have been interseting ……

Funny what people want sometimes – I recently gave away an old Permamag motor to some kids trying to do Robotwars.

Then there was an old Colonel up in N. Leeds who rang up on a Sunday and demanded a dishwasher motor – it transpired he was building a fountain in the garden. Found him a one in/one out pump, drew him a circuit diagram and dropped it off, thought no more about it until the cooker went wrong and went up to fix it – which I did. As a by-the-way, I asked about the fountain. “Watch” he says as he hits the red button on the kitchen window ledge. Damn thing must have gone 40 feet straight up! The old boy says “Can’t run it on a windy day – pond empties into the neighbours garden – don’t like it”. I drew a diagram as to how to insert a rheostat into the circuit and left… But he was happy!

It all adds to lifes rich variety I suppose,

    K,
It’s taken me HOURS to get on with this ….. It doesn’t help that I can’t trype for cofee! Mind you, 17 years ago we were doing the Comet ordering on telex around the world, Oh what fun we had. One typo resulted in 2500 gray door frames arriving from Samsung (Air freight – it was all falling down around us) for the Proline 1010 m/wave; instead of white ones! We found a local car body shop and sorted the problem!!!!! I didn’t quite get sacked …..

    Ta K,
Mrs P says it’s simpler than Excel or Access – intuitive is what she actually said. Mind you my involvement with the computer starts and ends with talking to you guys, so what do I know?

We’ve been plugging along with good old Lotus Organiser for years for call booking and customer records; the wife uses a self designed template system for billing; we get paid, so it must work. I can get Mrs Penguin to tell you more if required.

    Hey Eastlmark,
Surely they there is a comparison, they’ve evolved by aquisition – didn’t Toleman finish up as Renault via Prost and several other incarnations? And Candy gained market share by buying up Hoover (Themselves not unassociated with the transport industry – the Sinclair C5 …..) and other minor players.

Indy Racing is great – they all have engines of the same rating, and if anyone’s getting too far ahead, some unfortunate back-marker always seems to go for a slide along the perimeter wall. Then you get a full course yellow and everybody catches up with everybody else. At least F1 is a straight fastest to the line affair. Still boring though.

Bit of an aside, but our YP/TDir ads have said “No Candy’s” for many years. Several years back, the misses fielded a call from a chap who asked why “no Candy’s” ……. So she told him about the difficulties of getting spares; and the impossibility of bearings in the stainless tank machines. Turns out he was from Candy ……… They don’t like it up ’em Mr Mainwaring.

    AND,
Luca Merloni plays lead guitar for Aetherna – an Italian rock band in the style of Iron Maiden.

Not to mention Ms Merloni, who is a teacher at the Ivanhoe Elementary School in Canada.

    Isn’t the Internet wonderful!

Started it, so better carry on…..
There’s a Lou Merloni plays 3rd base for the Boston Red Sox baseball club (That’s rounders with attitude for the uninitiated), and I’m damn sure there’s a Merloni playing football in Britain somewhere.

    Anorack? Full snorkel parka!!!

    Re: AEG Favorit 420

    Hi Cornwell40,
This is usually a blockage in the matrix itself (the side tank) which is integral with the sump moulding. A replacement kit was available which involved hacksawing through the matrix/sump transfer pipe. Great fun in the customers house. 420 is an old one though, I have a feeling the kit is now obsolete. Ask kwatt to see if there is still a valid part number (he’s ever so helpful) and he’ll explain stickies as well

    Hi,
FHP is now a group comprising what was AEG’s motor division, ZEM Sole, and a czech firm whose name escapes me after several pints of beer. They have obviously opted for a common brush across the product range (12 AG 03 from Europart). There is one exception however – the high spin AEG motors with the cartridge holders are fitted with SUPER SIZED brushes, for which no separate inserts are currently available. You can buy gen under 8896454255770 or pattern from Europart under 12 AG 05.
FHP can be contacted at http://www.fhp.com , but they never respond if you say the magic word – SPARES.

Not sure if Merloni are involved – AEG and Zem Sole are part of Electrolux Group aren’t they?

Hope this is of some use,
    Penguin.

    Hi 13,
Try 12 AG 03 from Europart Maddocks. It’s worth it just for Peggy’s mellifluous Welsh accent.
