    Re: Spin failure

sure i did one like this a good time ago and it ended up being the on /off switch/switchbank it was a weird one though it had lost the neutral through the switch 😯 just a thought some of the other lads might have other ideas? when you cleaned the bottle out did you also make sure that the little black hose was clear aswell? and are you positve that the pcb/timer are ok (they are really expensive on those) and does it drain the water ok? remember pull the plug first sounds like you might need an engineer

hi there first washer could be a number of things bearings, weight, suspension, springs, uneven loads the list goes on should recomened an engineer to that one!
The second machine sounds like a blockage or the drain pump might of had it! very hard to say what it is without seeing machine but does sound like a drainage problem either way if you do decide to have a go at it remember REMOVE THE PLUG FIRST!

They sound very much like a company that operate in birmingham i think technics 1200 had some dealings with them if my brain cell remembers correctly being a fish i struggle with the memory thing 😉 but all these companys are what give this trade a bad name and the more they punish them the better!

Re: Aga masterchef – range cooker

you are right ken in what you say but the range cooker that they are on about is not really a true aga in the sense that it is made by aga to look similar to an original aga but it works exactly the same has a conventional cooker, fan assited ovens, timers etc. I do a hell of a lot of agas it my speacilist field the cooker is good although did have problems with some thermostats at first (unless it was everyone i went to) is it worth 3grand is up to you there is a lot of good range cookers on the market for a lot less that do the same thing! But a true aga which ken is on about are in my opinion fantastic but i am going to say that and they start in the region of about £5500 new for a 2 oven cooker! but all my customers would not go back to normall cookers! hope i have helped clear any confussion and not added to it!

    Re: ACS training and exams

I know that this might be a bit late but i have just heard a rumour how to get round the acs entrants criteria.I have done my oftec(oil) which mirrors acs (ventilation, flue requirments etc) not a easy exam credited but i did all 3 101 102 105e which deals with anything from a cooker upto a swimming pool boiler!( i like the punishment) dont think you would have to sit all three exams just probably the one but you do not have to be qualified in oil to sit the exam(it took me 4 days) and then they say that you are cat 3 entrant for the gas because the say that you are an experianced engineer in a related field and has i say it mirrors the gas regs they say the same about heatas (solid fuel) but not done that one yet and it is only meant to take 1/2 days i know its a lot of expense and time to be qualified in something you will probably never use again but its better then sitting at college for three years doing exactly the same! Has i say its a rumour but it might be worth a look if you are struggling to get on the gas!
Thats if you think gas is worth it because it does cost a lot to maintain and keep up with and the rates dont really reflect this!
Another thing do you think that in three to five years time when everybody who has flooded the locall techs with plumming /gas courses has qualified there will be to many gas people for the demand thus the price/wage of a gas engineer will fall? supply and demand! sorry i am moaning again 👿 of to the pub to go and maintain my nickname! no my name is not phil and i am not a fish 😈 😈 😈

    Re: Qualifications

thanks for that ken 😉 but the sad thing is basically if we for example install a cooker really we should have this because its basically hard wired and in the kitchen and also these washer/dishwashers that are wired into fused spurs i supppose that i should go and get it 👿 just started doing a bit of work for a kitchen company installing gas hobs etc kitchen fitters do all the electricall work moveing sockets/lights etc but sounds like that might stop and you never know might get some extra work 😉 they pay good rates dont like doing that kind of stuff but if it keeps the wolves from the door ill do it!

    Re: Qualifications

can anyone please clarify this part p into laymans terms please?will it become like the acs/gorgi will it be policed the same do we have to have it now? how long will it last 5yrs? i hope not aleady have to do my gas and oil once every 5yrs to do the electrics aswell i would never get out of the college! does it mean we will have to certify work carried out even if its a minor repair? soon all we will be doing is paperwork (redtape) or training all the time and not getting on with the job that we are meant to be doing! 👿 👿 👿

I did a a dishwasher repair in a mental hospital where you walk in they lock the doors behind you 😯 to protect you from the patients done the job no problem they asked me if i could take a look at the dryer so i said ok they then locked me in the laundry room 😯 switched on the dryer to see what was going on it tripped the rcd thought ok i will just reset it to find that the consumer unit was locked in a another room which only the caretaker had the key for then the nurse said oh sxxx next thing i know the fire alarm has sounded because apparantly they had a system where if anything trips out or anybody messes with the electricity supply and the thing is not reset within a set period of time the bloody fire alarm screams the place down next thing i know there is hundreds of mental health patients running everywere and the whole place like nothing i have ever seen before or want to see again and because they have got a direct line to the fire brigade 3 fire enginees turned up 😳 😳 😳 😳 so anybody ever asks if i could just take a quick look now the answer is NO
