    Re: White Goods Auctions

Brought a few in the past.
You tend to find the warranty cards have id numbers relating to the stores they brought them from so if ever they ask the customer for the receipt for pop it can go wrong if it don’t add up.
Parts and warranty packs used to go missing from them when people viewed them, lots of ghost bidding goes on especially now they do it online aswell so you get bid right up and you can’t even see who is doing it!(usually the auctioneer) and strangely enough the only ones who can prove it are the auctioneers. always make sure you view them first guaranteed there is a glitch somewhere, and take a picture or be able to produce evidence they was complete otherwise you lose out after all they are sold as seen.
The biggest thing to remember is the massive 44{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} they wack on the top! 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} bidders fee on the hammer then 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} vat on top of that!!! So that bosch you quoted is now £144 not £100 and you ain’t even plugged it in got your tools out or added parts etc.
Sometimes have trouble with the newer machines with locating cosmetic parts especially when they are brand new to the market, you do get asked obvious awkward questions, plus the cost is usually outrageous even if you can get them.
Saying all that I have had some fun and some real good bargains doing it but I’ve also got bitten, it’s a gamble even if it is an educated one, you have to be smart and fast , you won’t pick it up first attempt and you will get some bargains but you will get some real pigs aswell. So it’s your choice go in eyes wide open and just make sure you can afford to lose if it goes wrong.

Again?! I wonder what lovely quality appliances they produce this time.
What name are they going by?
What happened to their overseas adventures when they sold baumatic to hoover? Did they squash them, or, Did Hoover take them on? I know they was trying to break into Europe and other countries.
What’s this time 3rd or 4th time? Lol

If the overheat stat was oc something caused it. I would be looking at either customer stopping programme early even if it is to just check clothes, perhaps ventilation if there is enough to supply the machine or more then likely a blockage somewhere probably in the condenser or in the fan, what the filters like? Are the ones in the door opening blocked? If you take them out hold them up to the light you will see if the micro mesh is clogged which restricts airflow also pet hair etc in the fan restricts airflow which causes these stats to blow, also check the channel from the filters down to the condenser.
The relay is a decent heavy duty relay so I doubt the stat going oc would damage it, plus it must of been working for the stat to overheat, same as the element so I would just look at the basics first these types of faults are usually down to insufficient airflow or customer misuse.

How do you know the wires are live?
How did you test them? What voltage did you have? Are you sure you have got the neutral supply? As ken says sounds like a safety stat to me aswell, which cuts the neutral supply when it overheats. You can easily test these doing a continuity test and not working live.
To be perfectly honest though if your not understanding kens post about are the switch contacts making then I’m starting to doubt your ability with a meter and strongly recommend you do not work live to find this fault, you should be able to find this fault without the need to work live.

Don’t these have to energise the pressure switch (think it’s on or above the circ pump) to keep the circ pump switched on, if it don’t sense enough pressure it cuts the pump out.
Usually something simple blocking the pump, piece glass, bone, pip etc if not I would be looking down the lines of pressure switch etc first before i looked at the pcb.

Can’t you just put some new clips on like the one in the middle?
Think your going to struggle with this one somehow, unless there is some old mfi lads on here who happen to know it and have one in the depths of their garage.

    Re: Neff oven timer problem

The relay is attached to the back of the timer, sometimes there are two but usually just the one.
Is it an easy job? depends on your skill with a soldering iron, if experienced a relatively simple job if not like everything else for the first time can be awkward.
If I was you I would be taking photos along the way so you remember how it all goes back together, especially the wiring on the timer.

    Re: Retirement

Morning, what a strange unprovoked late response, you must of been thinking about it for a long time, not sure you read my post correctly, but, thank you! I am happy you have seen the error of your ways, your right you must of been stuck in the same old rut for far too long. It does me the world of good to know that I have enlightened you to potential new business ideas and work ethics.
I can see where your coming from though, I mean the time/ease and the profit margin on a recon or a bearing job on what a 7 to a 14 year old machine are so massive it is easy to become too comfortable in your ways and those markets are brimming with potential and a never ending customer base, so there would be no need to advance yourself to new ideas or possibilities, or even just to keep up to date with current trends and technology because those sides of our trades will be around for ever won’t they? We have nothing to fear!. We could all do the same thing and just stand still and let the world keep turning at its own pace and we would just stay in our little “safe place” and then moan when the world moves on but we couldn’t be bothered to keep up with it, so it’s the worlds fault not ours.

I do like your logic though your making me question myself now! Mmmm perhaps I have got it wrong?, perhaps it is me who should not try to keep up with the world or customer trends and demands, perhaps I should shut my eyes to new technology and possibilities or even new business adventures, perhaps I should just stand still, try not to advance myself or better myself, try not to understand why things work the way they do, I mean that ain’t what engineers do is it? perhaps I should narrow my skill set down instead of being qualified and experienced in all 3 skill sets and being able to repair anything in the kitchen, so when I customer asks for example do you do gas cookers or systems etc I can always say yes! Not, oh I don’t do that but I know a man who can! Perhaps I should just narrow it down to being able to do the bread and butter basic stuff washers, dryers, dishwashers etc you know the same basic stuff I was doing 20 odd years ago and can and still do it if there is enough profit in it for me to do today.

Here is a great idea what about…..I can work harder and longer for the same or less money, instead of having a life, Brilliant, genius! Why did I never see the light and the error of my ways! I am so happy you made me realise… I’m on the right path!

Perhaps you can’t see straight because I have got those glasses you was after lol 😛

    Always happy to help

I know every business as it’s own terms and conditions, but I dare say like me there is a good many engineers / self employed who do not have them on their letterheads or receipts etc…. Yet!
so is there a standard format or structure that we can adopt? Or avoid?! I’m not the best when it comes to wording these type of things especially when it starts getting into legal grounds and would probably end up wording things that got me into the brown stuff more then out of it.
Did you all do your own or did you get someone to do it for you? Or did you adapt someone else’s to suit your own needs. Obviously jackal would of done his own, but how did the rest of you go about it? forgive me for asking but I am just looking for some ideas what needs to go in and what doesn’t, also how to present it so the customer knows without going to sleep or losing interest and going elsewhere, I need something that will protect me from the likes of this lot because it’s only a matter of time with how people are today before someone try’s it on.

It does sounds like the energy reg, but check your toc’s first ( thermal cut outs) you can test them just doing a continuity test.
    Power off first obviously.
