ParticipantRe: JTM struggling?
Oh I see your point Martin.
Talking about 0800 I saw one of their new vans today and it DIDN’T have a 6ft screwdriver attached to the roof! Looked a lot better.philfish
ParticipantRe: JTM struggling?
Thought they had just picked up de Dietrich, and a couple of others. But I suppose it does depend on who they lost, did they lose the argos contract in the end or have they still got that as we’ll?
Think they are still advertising for engineers.
I have never got my head around the whole Pacifica, Jtm and 0800 setup seems a bizarre business model and dodgy to start with, with the same company dealing within itself and pretending to be different companies but which are the same company, very confusing. The only reasons I can possibly think of doing it the way they do it is for dishonest reasons, but I may be wrong.

ParticipantRe: Miele G 1162 scvi – inlet valve
Don’t know part number off the top of my head, but ain’t that model got the aqua stop thingy me bob? Basically the valves (double) are at the beginning of the inlet hose where it attachs to the stop tap, if so sit down and breath deeply because in typical miele style they are a fortune!!!!!!! And as an added bonus they are sealed!

ParticipantRe: Employment wanted
I hear Glen dimplex (stoves, belling, new world, lec etc) are looking for engineers, not sure about locations but I heard they’ve got a recruitment drive going on.
Might be worth looking into.Phil

ParticipantRe: Smeg A42 has lost power
Loose connection or faulty terminal block?
Or as you say possible timer could be toc anything really.
It’s a really difficult one to call without seeing it, it could be something simple really don’t know, but, you will need a test meter to start tracing the fault. I don’t know your experience or background but it might be wise if your not confident to get someone in.
Do not work live you should be able to trace it doing continuity and insulation checksphilfish
ParticipantRe: smeg suk91mfx oven stopped heating up
If all have gone I would be looking towards the safety stat, but, in saying that there is a reason why that would go and that is the problem, you need to sort out that otherwise it will keep happening or be a danger to yourself. It’s a safety stat for a reason and obviously it gone for a reason.

Have you checked with your landlord to see if it is him / her who covers it or the responsibility is on yourself?.
Sounds like your element, but could be a number of other things, you need to test it with the appropriate test equipment to be sure. If you’ve never done anything like this and you have not got the appropriate test equipment I would advise you get someone in to do it.Phil

ParticipantRe: Oven dead after power cut
I was just hoping it was coincidence and a simple repair for you to do yourself. As I say it was an off chance, so if everything else seems ok I would be looking towards the timer.

That looks like it! But I can’t recall it being French.
I did use a few French words on it myself it was a right pain to work on. LolPhil

ParticipantRe: Miele Dishwasher Red Inlet Light Warning Within 1 Minute
Simple stuff first,
Have you checked the base for leaks?
Made sure inlet pipes not kinked etc
Have you tried programming it for a longer fill time (low water pressure setting) think you can do it from your manual very handy when you have a private supply.
Sometimes the flow meter does stick or the reed switch which counts the pulse from flow meter can be faulty.Phil

ParticipantRe: Neff Oven bulb replacement
I certainly would not recommend taking the inside cavity out that’s for sure!!!
Have you checked to see if you can get a replacement lens?
Do you really need a light that much? Only say that because if you can’t replace the lens and it does brake your in deep do do.

ParticipantRe: Bosch HBN56M551B/10 fan & light not working
Hi, and welcome.
1, replace grill element
2, sounds like you need to replace circulation fan
3, you made sure you’ve used the correct replacement bulb sometimes the length can vary just slightly but enough to not make contact, failing that and knowing the bulb is correct and ok, I would be looking at the bulb holder.
I don’t know your skill level or competency, but, Might be wise to call an engineer because it will need striping down.Phil

ParticipantRe: Oven dead after power cut
It does sound like it could be a timer fault, but, just as an off chance pull the knob of and have a look see if the knob is not worn and slipping round on the selector switch shaft. Might even be the switch but without seeing it etc I can’t really tell.
I don’t know how much a local engineer to you would cost and unfortunately I’m not local but you can search for a local engineer on here.Phil

ParticipantRe: Retirement
Im not missing the point I know exactly where you are coming from and it is sad that the industry as took that route but they think it’s progress they ain’t interested in the repairs so much more in sales, so they don’t look at it like we do. So don’t repair them types of machines that are cheaper to swap then repair unless you think it’s going to be a nice quick easy job. For example you try getting a gas double oven for less then 400 or a side by side, range cookers etc some machines are silly money, I mean even a lot of coffee machines are now way over £500 as I say people are a lot less comfortable with go getting a new one and most houses have at least one major big appliance nowadays. but as I say whats the difference in the repair? If your looking at doing a bearing job on a Indesit/hotpoint £230 washer you’ve got no chance or a pcb on a sub 250 machine you are peeing in the wind. Of course people will go get a new one wouldn’t you?. I mean people now expect to pay over £200 for a vacuum cleaner.
There is a market/money out there look at all these numptys who pay £100+ upfront to the likes of repaircare,British gas and all the others just shows people are out there in force and willing to pay. It’s just the lower end of the market is shrinking so we have to be flexible and adapt to take on other work and newer types of work, our bread and butter of carbons and bearings are way behind us.
But that certainly don’t mean we are anywhere near finished.
We can’t go the same way as brown goods simply down to the fact appliances are to big and they ain’t just all electronic they’re mechanical aswell and that’s just laundry which is still only washers, dryers, dishwashers what about fridges, cookers, coffee machines, microwaves, hoods etc etc that’s workout sales, installations etc
As I say it’s about flexibility and ability I still believe the future is bright.
