    Re: Oldest Appliance Ever

Went to this one today. The fridge was purchased in 1949 from Harrods as a wedding present. Works fine other than the thermostat/selector is stuck on. It was gassed with 1.0lb of F12 (??)and hummed away ever so quietly. The Lady is insistant on getting it fixed even though the spring arm is broken and all the liner in the door has all holed.

So if anyone knows where to get spares for a circa 1949 Westinghouse Y-8156 let me know !!! :rolling:

I did tell her she did not have a chance but insisted I try. She also asked if I was unable to get spares ( :rolling: ) what should she do. I suggested a museum but she was not impressed.

    Re: Cold Calls

Both the Telephone preference service (TPS) and Fax Preference Service
(FPS) have worked wonders for us. You can register on-line and you get written confirmation but takes up to 28 days to work fully. After that it’s great. We don’t get many calls or faxes (other than the ones we expect) but if you do, ring the people who sent you it, tell them you are with the TPS/FPS and have been registered for over 28 days and they should not have called/Fax’d you. They instantly appologise and remove you from their list. They dare not call you back. We’ve gone from 5-10 faxes and 10-15 calls per day to 1 or 2 per week. !!

    Blombergs,

Don’t see any for 6 months and now about to to my 3rd in 3 days, after I finish my cup of tea of course.

52X0529 is this also the correct part number for a 1501aaa heater and if so then the 1602026 should fit ??? Yes or no ?

    Dave,

Thanks for that. I’m at the customers house later and I’ll see what they say. I think they’re already looking at “other options” – reconditioned or the dreaded E-Bay. 😑 😑

    Draper Tools,

Part no 66883 – Torx 40 Impact bit about 1.29 each either direct from Draper or order from any Draper stockist. Even if you don’t use it with the impact driver put the 1/2 SD impact head on your ratchett. I found best way is to either heat nut first or give the nut a bit of a welly and then tap the bit into the nut first. I’ve tried everything before and these are probably the best cost option. At one stage I was doing 2-3 Inde spider changes a day. Even with this bit they do occasionaly break but not that often.

I once did some work for a Mrs Pine-Coffin. I thought she was joking but that’s what it said on the cheque – and it cleared.

    funkyboogy,

Try either of these 2 at screwfix.co.uk. I’ve been meaning to try one of them for a while but not had any oven doors glass that needs to e glued.

The first one looks the best but they do have others that are mainly for the building trade.

Re: Candy CN136 Washing machine bearings – 31000753044322215

Thanks aqualectric, you were right, 6204 & 6205 bearings. Easy enough one man job when top weight and motor taken off, bottom weight dropped (gently) into the bottom. Only problem was customer continued to use it (despite being told not to) and drum shaft is not in too good a condition and not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure water seal will be good enough now, we’ll wait and see. Thanks again to all 4 the help.

Puurrrrrfect my Veterinary customer said. Fitted like a glove, big washer and a nut, as good as new – nice easy job, like these ones.

Thanks again guys. Yes normally do it 2 man lift but working by myself. Getting back to the workshop so can use some form hoist. If that doesn’t work I’ll try on the side as suggested.

    thanks

    Steve,

thanks for that. I thought it was just me having difficulty getting the parts.
Even Gias didn’t have them in. Have ordered all three bearing but will try and cancel the 6206zz. At least now it’s logged here for anyone else when they do a search. Going to get the machine into the workshop tomorrow and strip it down and hopefully fix Thursday.

    Thanks again.

    Chris,

I looked at that and thought, must be mains filter as there was only one, normally 2 side by side like on service machines. Where can I get one pretty quick and price if poss. Should have checked more thoroughly – annoyed with myself !!
