Thanks you could be right. And as for the drum always rotating in one direction; how could this moisture affecting the probe account for that? I see that someone called Rocker and ChrisR have had similar problems with there Barvarian pieces of trouble too.

Ha! No such luck. The heater is as clean as a whistle, the fan is too, and the front fan also. My current thinking is: that it o/heats but not because of a blockage, not because there is a fault with the thermistors- I heated up the heater thermistor wiith my handy hair dryer and watched the resistance change with the heat, I also did this with the one in the filter area, what it is is that the t/dryer doesn`t ever reverse, if it did the heater should stop heating so the m/ch slightly cools before going the other way back to heat again, the way it relvolves is clockwise, the drum stops every now and again then carries on same direction as always-clockwise as looking at the front of the machine, tested on cotton very dry, went wrong several times and freshen up, tested from cold, where it got hotter than 20 degrees but today it didn`t abort the freshen up programme and made it to the end, but aborted the very dry cycle as expected…..watcha think folks because were are talking Henley reses here who are full of sarkey comments to someone trying to help them and don`t want to call out Bosch or someone else who knows ( because it`ll cost `em ) as suggested to her even before I ponced through their front door into their £700,000 abode. Anyone got any other ideas, anyone ever have this.

Thanks. I`m going back there this morning. Seems like a fairly simple problem and now it`ll be cold I can have a look at the heater area without risking burnt fingers.I`ll report back later.

Yes thanks for your replies. I`ve dropped the customer a note with various suggested causes, not that I suppose they`ll bother to read it, but at least I have done what I said I would do to help them. Thx again. Andy

Hi Jim. Yes a small hard biscuit sums it up wonderfully which is what I had.

Nice fridge, your lucky having that. Any ideas if it is a piston compressor or a rotatary vain type as a matter of interest? Ages since I`ve seen one of these-I picked up one similar in 1982 but it was too far gone as it was kept in a barn and so was badly rusted. A friend of mine from a distant past used to, knowing him still has, a beehive fridge. I`d like to get my paws on one of those Electrolux absorption fridges, I like the idea of no moving parts just a stat and a heater. Anyway, great to see this stuff, I suspect most old stuff was chucked even if still working when kitchens were replaced.
Last late 60`s cooker I repaired was similar to the cooker above, made by Carron, which is still being coaxed along, next time I go there for something I`ll see if I can get a photo to upload.
The oldest washer I came across was in 2008 and that was a 1962 bolt to the floor Bendix which he replaced with a Tricity Bendix which went South, terminally, after 4 years-curse of modern Electrolux!!! Anyone remember the Philco Ford washer or the Bendix`s with the brown fascia panels, stainless steel tank that used to leak from the left hand suspension bracket weld, Merloni made as far as I remember, the series before that with the enamelled tank too, with the silver and black pin striped fascia panel ?Re: Hotpoint wdl520
4 or 5 different versions on this machine. Perhaps motor brushes worn out? Would be the right age by now. pcboard if it has blown, I`ve had that one too!

sticky polystyrenne float-gunged up. faulty m/set on the said float chamber. Other than that that`s all that I can thing of.

Thanks to everyone.Update: genuine thermostat was fitted not el cheapo copy. Developments: my hunch that perhaps it was the o/heat button stat at the rear of the machine: ignore this as it was a red herring on my part looking for ideas, gasping for breath, clutching at straws! The crux of the problem was as follows: she needed the cooker to get to the right temperature, I bought and I changed the stat to cure the problem as per reference the instruction leaflet enclosed in the packet with the new stat trouble is, despite writing down the which wires went where with reference to the modification before I even moved wires IT WAS WRONG!!!! She needed this cooker repaired for a big do over a weekend, the newly fitted stat did not reach temperature it would not roast the sodding bloody potatoes and in desperation she called out Elux. The work sheet noted “thermostat wired wrong sort out and test”. So, either my 30 years in the trade still means I can`t do a simple mod when I checked then double checked the wiring mod with the basic instructions in which case I`m a dick head ( no comments please! ) or he was told to write what he wrote which I think is a load of kriptonite-so very doubtful this was the case, or the pissing wiring mod was just plain wrong! I know it wasn`t the former, I should hate to think the middle one, that leaves the last one……so you tell me?

Drive bell under the agitator maybe? You`ll have to type your model number when you hit this link and it`ll come up with the parts for this mosel and suggested cures to different faults- good site. Andy.

Yes been through all that with her thx. The oven button safety stat is rated at 180 degree cut out, via e/lux website, does this stop the whole oven or does it just disconnect the m/oven element should it fail?

Oh yes I get just the same but it is usually Sunday at around 1pm…Sunday lunch time. I`ve even had some Asian guy phone me up on Xmas Day saying his tumble dryer had gone wrong and that he needs it fixed today; he was given a piece of advice in no uncertain terms! They don`t give a S*it it`s all me me, they don`t think and they don`t care these days whether foreigners or not. I don`t mince my words but then on the other hand I`ve seen my customer base drop but that`s down to el cheapo machine replacements, shame I don`t know enough about repairing classy expensive modern machines though their owners are even worse by all accounts or on the rare ocassion I`ve got involved; they expect the most for a 35 quid call out and labour and expect the earth and kiss arse with it at 7 pm but don`t want to pay out of hours` charges to save them their time!! And so there`s a simple rule that I have: I don`t do it any longer where surprise surprise there`s a sudden u-turn on the other end of the phone especially when they know, as they all phone around, that practically everyone else is charging much more.
