Managed to get round tonight to nephews and motor was already sat there for me 🙂 megged all the 8 pins –
All pins from 1-7 were 1000meg ohms ( meter is the meggar MIT220 which it’s highest scale is 1000m ) pin 8 was earth which read 0.00 all done on 500v setting.
Checked Tacho which was 2 yellow wires to pins 6-7 and that was 89.0 ohms with multimeter ..magnet was fine.
Looked at brushes and they were like new,to be honest motor looked new … Refitted motor checked a few other components did all my safty checks ,switched it on and away it went ..No problems while i was there ! told him to ring once it finished to let me know ..phoned later on and said it worked perfectly …Told him to get back if it happens again and not to touch it 😀 I think he was telling porkie pies some where along the line because he looked a little 😳 when i was asking why he thought motor and why take it off when he was not sure of problem..
I did notice that the front comes off nice on this w/m for a cheap brand which makes it easy for a door seal replacement 😀
Shaun p.s noticed plastic sealed drum on this so not very environmentally friendly !

just done a repair to exact same board as chris has posted here, FAULT = NO HEAT ( d3 ) locate and change the little resistor that says IN4007 24C1N4007 it’s a diode not resistor…

NeilIt’s cheaper to unsolder at least one leg of capacitor for measurement instead of buying expensive tool… before measurement make sure to discharge capacitor and do not replace him if is inside tolerance of 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of his value (isn’t necessary)… This is applying to unpolarized capacitor like those from above photos and not to those electolitics (polarized) which have to be changed if are not keeping voltage…
Electrolytic capacitors is what i was referring to when using the meter …you cannot accurately measure an Electrolytic capacitor with out using an ESR meter , the capacitance is not the main issue with electrolytic capacitors it’s the equivalent series resistance that is the main cause (ESR ) .
Yep you are right the 1N4007 is a diode..

Hi Mike ,
Thanks for the reply….Nephew called round while i was out and told our lass that his missus put w/m on, it worked for a bit then stopped but sounded sluggish when working ( his words ) said he got it to drain then took back off to check belt which he claims is ok so thought it must be motor so takes it out to see if “owt looked dodgy ” ( his words not mine lol )
Could not see anything wrong , writes down the machine model and number on back of said motor (surprised he even wrote how many pins were in connector block 🙂 still thinks it’s the motor and asked our lass if i could get him a new one 💡 Don’t no how he thinks it’s the motor by just looking at it 😯 (at least our lass had the sense to say don’t bin the motor leave it for me to check (at least it’s out on his table by the sounds of it so easier to have a look lol) ..will megg it and check tacho and brushes when i get round just to ease his mind but cannot get there till sat morning …Will ring him tomorrow in-case the daft sod chucks it before i get there … once i test it i’ll fit it and see if the w/m behaves like he says ..
Hope he turned w/m off and unplugged it before he took back off 😮

Just like to add that some capacitors do not show signs of faults but will go high in ESR .. this little meter will confirm it and is really accurate..Many people miss that a cap is bad as they look for the dorm shape which is not always evident.http://www.prc68.com/I/ESRmicro.shtml
Does this meter allow you to test a capacitor while still in circuit?
if so could you tell me where to get hold of one
Neil Hi Neil sorry i was late replying , this meter is best used when just un soldering one leg of a capacitor because other circuits can cause a false reading ( some meters advertise that they work without un soldering one leg , but this is not the case because of back circuits interfering with the readings).. I bought one from Mike and it is really good at detecting these faults on capacitors …It will display the actually capacitance and the series resistance ..
it’s actually the series resistance that is the really important bit because if this is really high then the cap can look good and even test good with a digital multimeter that can check capacitance but will actually be faulty..This meter tells you that and has a reference chart what is a good capacitor..
Many people test using just a capacitance meter and it passes even though it’s bad..
A good place to read about these issues is a site called badcaps.net hope i was ok posting the name if not i apologize and please kindly remove.
If you like to solder and check boards then this little meter is the business , Mike ships pretty quick and best to email him and he’ll respond to you.
This meter will pay for it’s self if you like to test components ..capacitors are a real issue in most electric equipment where they are installed..Fixed quite a few power supply’s in desktop pcs and monitors as well as the odd tv , without it i would not have known they were bad apart from a couple that had gone dome shaped.
Sorry to waffle on but had to say it lol..
By the way i have no affiliation to this product ,it’s just that i own one and several other little handy gadgets. (i still mend the odd pc and monitor 🙂
Hope i have answered your question.
Best

Is there any info regarding what time the meet starts on the Friday and what time it finishes on Friday.
I was contemplating whether i can go but i would only be able to go on the Friday then drive back the same night as i a going away on the Saturday so just trying to work out whether it will be to much of a rush.
Also can anyone give me any ideas to what is happening on the Friday i.e discussions etc .
Thanks

ParticipantHi simonb,
Thanks for the kind words….I guess it is hard when first setting out but i am determined to see this through as i love faultfinding and having the challenge ..Mechanical stuff i can do pretty good as i have had loads of practice when fixing cars ,i know before anyone says it’s not the same but the principal is very similar ,you still have to remove and replace stuff and there’s a hell of a lot more to remove/replace on a car lol.
It’s finding the faults on domestic appliances that is a challenge just on it’s self but this is the best site for advice that i have come across.I do have a couple of washers that i am working on at the mo but the only way to move forward is to get more hands on.
A big thanks to all who contribute on here as this is is what it should be about ,helping others.
