ParticipantWell , id never thought start capacitors worked like that , but it seems to be fine, i previously thought , when they were knackered that was it, yeah i previously asked about capacitors and if i remember rightly , it was said going up one number was fine but nomore really, thanks for imput Dave

Participanthi Dave , its all back together now , , the capacitor would have been a 7 or 8, it seems to be working but as i type its running on test , ill update later cheers

ParticipantThanks Dave, , well ill admit i haven’t checked the out put for the heater element, but its not going to be vastly different, im not saying its a plug n play scenario, and both innards are super clean , so pretty confusing, there is a thermostat or is it called a thermistor at the front of the dryer, i’ve never changed one of these, , , im thinking if the outputs the same, and the stats on it are ok, then maybe the front one, you know its under the door filter, confusing…… and confused, is that stat a possibility?

ParticipantHi Dave , No ill be honest i havnt , when the dryers running , its nice and quiet , even on initial start up its quiet, slow/hesitant, its noticeable as i say when the dryer turning its last revolution before stopping, ok you cant hear it but it does sound like a squeaky/very tight/to tight belt

ParticipantHi Matrix , thanks for that, the only thing i can say , is when you hit pause and the motor slows and stops, the noise it gives off , is, well hard to explain , but its like the noise of a very very tight belt, sort of squeaky, hard to explain, so given the other belt , the 1991 is longer i imagine, if that was fitted , im just thinking maybe the spring/sprung tension would be less, and potentially? an easier start up i do have a 1991 belt, given how these dryers are i presume the way to change it is release the back panel from the side panels etc any thoughts?

ParticipantHi All,
So time for another look at this slow starter, given the motor type as previously mentioned/established regarding a capacitor, can you guys tell me The right belt size, i’ve looked on fleabay and am getting a bit of conflicting advice, the belt fitted at the moment is comtech 144003064 7ph 1965, now the belt on fleabay is saying a different part number and its a 144002145 6ph 1991 length??, so am i looking at a belt that’s been fitted, that’s just to flaming tight ? IE the wrong sized belt and that’s causing the issue? Thanks in Advance

ParticipantSo 8-40 am, after wiggling all the electrical connectors and swearing a bit , its fired up, so just letting it run to test the heater and condenser, will give another update later , im semi happy

Thanks Kai , but ive changed the Fascia panel for one I KNOW is good

Participantelectrofix wrote: if the start capacitor has gone then it should not stay on pause and giving the drum a push should make it run
Dave
Dave id agree, esp as Ive swopped the complete front panel for one I KNOW is good, so by pressing the start” touch button” that should go green and then give the drum a helping spin , but Nowtttt……., these capacitors are a pain, does the helping hand method only work when the capacitor is Fail— ing IE on its way out, if it completely dead– would the helping hand method still work? I mean what would happen if the capacitor wasn’t connected up , then the light wouldn’t go green OR would it, and the helping spin of the drum wouldn’t work , am i understanding it correctly ?
Thanks

ParticipantThanks, checked all the above , its now going into the corner for a while…:p

“Ah…” .does not sound good at all lol, am i looking at a very tired motor then?
I suppose i mean , is it possible to have a tired motor, or do they either work 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} and then stop..! or can they , and i dont mean degrade, but get lazy?, the dryer with a full load of wet washing does start u and then work fine , but that initial start up seems laboured??? thanks

ParticipantPhew least I’m not going mad, still begs the A what’s making it a lazy starter? Very similar symptoms as a tired capacitor does this motor have brushes?
