Re: soap scum in washing machine

[Due to the use of ectra low temp washing and also the use of powders for coloured clothes ect machines are a breeding ground for bacteria ect]

The low water levels used in most machines nowadays stop the top half of the tub from being washed clean every cycle, if your machine is very bad you can try adding hot water through the soap dispencer drawer until the water is seen on the glass then set machine for highest temperature wash it can do.

If you need tech. info. I found it’s best to always speak direct to Graham, he has it at his fingertips, he does a lot of research personally with manufacturers at factory test labs.

    Re: Where did you start?

Back in 66 we only repaired Hoover appliances, a bit beneath the butler brigade, in those days you could complete most repairs and still have change out of ‘ten bob’
nowadays repairing more upmarket appliances get quite a few electric gates etc, still plenty of trees though.

Back in 1966 customers would leave the back door open for you, money on table with kettle, cup, milk etc to help yourself. You did job left change on table every body happy. Not like that today. Of course you still had to use your discression as to wether you made the tea, just like today sometimes you think NO WAY

    Re: Drain Hose to Short

New versions of Siemens washers the drain hose is an interference fit with an ‘o’ ring just where it joins the back of the machine at the plastic housing, universial hoses from B&Q etc will not fit, contact Siemens spares on 08705543210 for a genuine longer hose or fit conector and extend the one allready fitted.

comments apply to all manufacturers who all claim ‘you are the only one to report that fault’ whatever it is, I remember one german manufacturer who had a problem with a programme switch that i was replacing in great quantity said when questioned at the next training refresher course(for those who can remember them) ” they must have all been replaced unnecassarly even though machines did’nt work when you went in customers house and did when you left.

Think you will find universal fridge seal available from H.T. Maddocks,
Also re. Snowcap fridges I remember in the early days you did’nt carry out any regassing or compressor changes, the complete refrigeration system came to you in a sealed crate and you simply exchanged the whole item, used to take about half an hour.

Bernstein/Caremark worked on a Gentlemans Agreement, lets wait and see how gentlemanly they are about paying unpaid accounts for work carried out before recievers arrived.

Its good to read these forums, makes you realise that you are not the oldest service engineer in the country, others are catching up, I can go back further than the 3224 to the old sloping front Keymatic, still have the programmer ‘Indexing Tool’ and Pressure switch clamp in my tool box ‘Just in Case’, rembering sitting on customers floor fiddling with the slipping clutch springs and rollers. Happy days!

    Re: Bernstein!

Up until now I have always delt with Bernstein by not paying their invoices untill I was paid for the jobs that their invoices refered to.
Of course if receivers are involved they will enforce payment of their invoices and ours no doubt will be left unpaid
