Maybe i’ve got the wrong end of your reply, but I did’nt blame the 2 accidents on Inexperience or Lack of Skill. But as far as I see it the point I made still stands. I.e I am surprised that we don’t see more of this with the amount of people pouring into the Trade, yes we’ve all had close shaves myself included & with a lot more than 240v.

Landlords can be totally unbelievable, they’d rather risk damage & massive bills than pay a small amount to keep the Heating on low. We’ve got 1 down here who will never leave an empty property unheated in winter but most of them are like the 1 your talking about.

Nothing to do with the 2 sad deaths above, but with the amount of unskilled, untrained & unqualified people pouring into this trade nowadays it surprises me there are’nt a lot more accidents or deaths.
No doubt the above statement is going to get me slated but that’s the way I see it.Specialist01269

As you said: Take it while you can, if this snow comes in as they say on the weekend a lot of us won’t be going anywhere. I’ve got a good stock of inlet valves & my wellies ready for when the thaw comes though. A lot of the people down here put they’re machines in unheated outside shed’s so you can imagine what happens, good luck with the meter.

You could do a lot worse than take a look at http://www.cpc.co.uk they’re part of the Farnell group but often easier to deal with. They sell some really good test gear at quite good prices & do a range of quality thermocouples & surface temperature probes. Bought my last k-type flexi from them & it’s still going strong after about 2 years. I had a Uni-t Insulation Multimeter bought for me but could’nt get on with the thing, you have to change probe positions to do different tests.

Could’nt agree more funky, Microwaves can be lethal to service.
I was on an Arcade forum recently & there was a supposed ex-microwave engineer on there offering people advice on how to repair they’re faulty Microwaves, some people are just unbelievable.Specialist01269
ParticipantRe: Fused Test Leads.
Ah right, I spend a lot of time doing Electrical Fault Finding & testing on different things so I suppose it gives me a sort of lopsided view of things.

Fuse wire thingy ? you mean the old BS Re-wireables ? don’t see what they have to do with an RCD being fitted ? A lot of properties don’t have an RCD to cover the whole property, but have RCCB’s fitted on Individual Ring mains. If the Boiler was on it’s own Hardwired circuit it would’nt be covered by an RCD, it would’nt stop the property passing a safety test.
By the way properties with Re-wireable fuses are a bit of a Grey area with Electricians, they still Blow in the event of a serious short but can hold an Overload for a long time. I prefer MCB’s they should clear a Fault a lot quicker. The other thing to look out for when relying on an RCD is that they don’t allways work as they should.Specialist01269

Yes mate: Having done my Trade as a sparky i’m well aware of the Rules but if you take a look you’ll find there are many properties that still pass an Electrical safety check without there being an RCD fitted.

Guys: How can you say he was complacent ? It does’nt say he was working on the Electrics, it does say that his hands went across Live & Neutral so could have been dead before falling forward & touching Earth with his head. In that situation an RCD would have been no use at all & it does’nt say whether there was 1 installed in the property. Talking of Plug in RCD’s, Just a thought: How often do you have yours tested to make sure they work as they should ?, they were never really intended to be thrown around in a toolkit.

Hi Joe: I don’t think that Martin was trying to be clever, that’s not his style. I think he read your original post & it appeared from a quick read of your 1st question that you were asking why the machine was on. It was’nt until I went back & read what you were saying a 2nd time myself that I realised what you were saying.

Hi Stratfordgirl: Fused test leads can be a good investment. If your thinking of buying a set, take a look in your local TLC Electrical as they do them at a good price. Don’t take this the wrong way but don’t you think diagnosis by resistance testing takes longer ?

Hi: Think Iadom meant to count from the left so he can get the error code, so for example if there are 5 lights what numbers are flashing ?
