Perhaps to others detriment, but heh, you can’t win them all. 🙂

I suspect that Go Local may be suffering from a lack of the ability to pay anyone anything.

I’d point out that this has nothing to do with me. It might have something to do with Go Local not paying certain people that read these forums and didn’t take not being paid well at all, then sorted that.

Let’s just say that, should the party responsible wish to take credit, you should thank him for saving you the grief.

    Enlightening as ever ! 😉

    Re: HSBC Merchant services

Been there and done that about 18 months ago as at the time our merchant services wanted monthly fee’s for any merchant not compliant. The complexity of the scheme depends on how you trade but I did not find it that complicated.

Well it has not picked up this week, 2 Calls Yesterday and 1 today ! bloody dire at the moment, mind you the local pubs and eating houses are chocka most nights so people do have money but we seem to be seeing a large downturn not only in calls but also in the phones ringing in the first place !

Hows everyone else finding it ???

Tell her that its not a free call out and i charge for my time ,”oh i will leave it then, we want a new one anyway ” :rolls: .So happy i now charge just to get these wasters off my back 🙂

That about sums it up nicely, it just always amazes me still that they expect someone to take their own time, vehicle, Running Costs etc to drop what they are doing to make a call to their house to solve their problems all for the princely sum of F*** All !!!

Its a shame that some of the indies will still do FREE callouts as if we all stuck as one we would be able to educate the nice folks out there.

Really ! Does anyone expect to not get paid when they go to work ?
When they drive to there out of town shopping centre are these the same folks that expect the shopping centre to pay their fuel ?

We all need to be savvy and stick together, if EVERYONE is charging a labour charge then they will have no option to use someone. We never talk about call out charges or estimate charges, only labour charges and to drive to their location, turn a screw and provide a diagnosis has a labour cost. I do not think we are quiet because anyone charges labour, its the general economy right now and their are a lot of business not even related to our trade who are also quiet and many going out of business daily, when the big businesses are experiencing cutting shops, staff and offering bigger discounts its a marker for all of us. People are hanging onto their money and spending more wisely is my view. We can only hope that people start thinking Make do and Mend !

I think its fair to say that that would be a pointless exercise, its the Politicians that have brought such people to this Island and now the fabric of decent society is starting to feel the results of such mindless policies !

Not all Manufacturers Engineers are bad, although I had some issues with one of their chaps last year who called to a friends Washing Machine with NO EARTH serving the appliance, Motor Carbons worn to excess, Coins in the pump and the guy diagnosed that a timer was required !

Every Service operation seems to have a few mavericks on the payroll and we are all human given to errors now and then. But the earth thing really bothered me and in these times of H&S and polices adopted by companies like Indes*it coupled with the costs those such errors should never occur

    Re: A Difficult Weight ?

Thank you Jackal for clarifying the fine detail and to the others who have had input. As regards Shop Sales of Parts, both my invoices and instore notifications state that parts should be fitted by a suitably trained person and if in doubt we advise that a trained service engineer complete the work. This particular customer had the part unboxed and it was shown to him that it was brand new and not damaged in any way, he also checked the part and having done so left the shop with it satisfied. Our in store notices state that we do not offer refunds for any part returned that has been fitted or that shows evidence of being fitted and that we do not accept parts back where you may have changed your mind, it also states that in the case of goods which are not as described, faulty and proven as such that we are happy to offer a refund and that this does not affect your statutory consumer rights.

Now I know where we stand I will have a word with this customer and see how I get on.

    Happy Easter All !

DDSDDS wrote:part was fitted by himself i dont see how you would have to refund it at all logically he would have to prove it was faulty when he got it or defective and how on earth would he go about that?

Well maybe this is the point I am looking for, but whats the legal aspect in this case, he cannot prove that the part was defective anymore than I can prove that it was not ?

I wonder if Jackal could maybe pass comment on this matter and I am due to have to speak to this customer and advise him of the course of action and I want to get my facts straight before I do.

At the end of the day you have lost a bit of fuel and time so on paper its about £10 give up and move on. ?

Suppose our friend had be able to make another call instead of this one and it had been a motor or bearing job, or come to that any job that would turn a decent profit. Suddenly he would or has lost far more than a tenner, in about twenty years I have had three customers who gave me hassle by not wanting to pay, One I let go as it was far more complicated than money, the other two I used the Small Claims Court and was successful in both cases, both fraudsters were made to pay the full cost of the jobs, court fee’s and interest due ! My end of it was not just getting what I was due but also to see judgement passed and the fraudsters faces !

    Re: unpaid

It might well be worth the £25.00 fee for MCOL just for the entertainment purpose, this halfwit provided you with instructions to repair his appliance, based on your quoted Labour charge, at no time it seems was a time period quoted in which the appliance would or could be repaired, so even if it was 2 minutes the fee stands, he is trying to cheat you out of a honest job and whilst I can fully see where Martin is coming from I myself might well risk £ 25.00 to sober this guy up and you might just get all of your money and teach this stinker a lesson he wont like. As you say this chap has the means to pay and lives in a substantial property, now you know how he got it !
