    Re: Why is it….

Same as when you go down Tesco’s and arrive at the checkout with a full trolley of goods and then announce ~ ah I dont seem to have any means to pay you !

    Go Figure !

DSG ! Wash your mouth out Now, its a nasty word that leaves a nasty taste and as Kwatt has expressed I would NEVER EVER Deal with THEM at any cost either.

Had a few run in’s with the group over the years and frankly I wouldnt want to deal with them in any shape or form. I also notice that my local PC World Store has lost its own identity and has been swallowed into the Currys Digital bannner which now flies over the storefront with stock range being reduced ????

None of which is any surprise when you offer such a frustrating poor customer service record.

    Re: work dead

We had a couple of decent weeks after the election but it has gone extremely quiet now, phones hardly ringing but a few more in the shop buying DIY spares. The planned emergency budget a week and half away is scaring people I dont doubt and the holiday season is on us as well. I think all if this is conspiring against us as a trade but its widespread across the board with everyone trying to make a living.

Whatever happens in the forthcoming budget life must go on as it always has we all need to be more savy in procuring work and retaining it !
Traditionally we have always thrived in a recession but this ones different becuase of the astronomical deficit that has been run up and the maths frighten everyone including tha politicans. The only businesses that seem to be making real profits are the supermarkets and Banks the latter which seem to have got away scot free having been major contributors to this global mess. One thing I can never really grasp is why for most businesses that are VAT registered that banks get away without paying any VAT on the services that they charge for ?

    Re: Connect

As I have said already when I first posted this subject the other week I can see no valid reason why Connect wish to monitor which machines are logged onto their site, having spoken with them nothing that they outlined suggested any reason why machines would need to be logged.

I am now accessing the site with the same number of machines I was previosuly but have had to call them a number of times to enable us to work as we were previously were. Security is at the back of all of this evidently including Credit Fraud being one of the factors put forward to the people I spoke to there. Intresting in itself I would have thought that if such fraud was a significant issue that the site would have been made far more secure and robust using https for starters.

    Re: Performing Rights Society

I have taken a step back this last couple of weeks having had the PRS ringing me on average 3 to 4 times everyday, Of course I knew it was them as I had tagged their number in my phone PRS Do Not Answer !

Well I was getting a built in Zanussi out this morning and up came the PRS number, blinded by the tenacity of this lot I thought what the hell lets answer it !, Excusing myself from the customers home into the van I answered Good Morning Can I help you ?

The female introduced herself and her organisation then straight into the patter about music and the law. Do play music at your premises she said ? I replied oh yes ! we play a lot of music most days, oh she replied and do you have MP3 players, CD players, DVD Players, Computers and TVs there as well, Oh yes I have most of those, Oh she replied, well she said you require a licence to play music from these types of devices and to not have a licence is not only illegal but you could face a £ 3000 fine !!!!

    YIKES !!! Really ?

I then told her that we did not require any such licence as we make our own music, how do you mean she said, I replied that we make our own music and do not require any licences to do so. Oh she siad so what you are saying to me is that you copy music onto media such as CDs and the like and play them, Yes I replied you have it right.

Well she said you still require the licence and as you have admitted to copying music that is a infringement of copyright laws and carries additional penalties including possibly a prison sentence !!!!!

    Really I replied,

I then told her that we are not infringing anyones copyright as the copyright to the music we play belongs to us !

What she said ? You mean that you play music and copyright it as well ?

I said yes I told you that at the outset of this call ! She then asked me to clarify the nature of our business, I told her we were Domestic Appliance Service Engineers,

She said well that being the case can you explain how exactly you do this, hoping to catch me out.

I said yes of course I can, we normally start by humming a melody and when satisfied we add harmony to the melody, once thats done we write out a music manuscript after which using various musical instruments we record the result in a recording studio. The end results being that we can play this music on any form of media we like and play it anywhere without the need for one of your licences or infringing anyones copyright !

Ssssssssss ilence followed, Hello I said are you still there ???????

Hm ! Ah ! Well ? I said well what ? She said with that being the case she may need to get the field inspectors out to pay us a visit. Really I said, can you please tell me when they will be calling ? and how many of them would you be sending out ?

She said that at this moment she could not say as it could possibly be a surprise call ????

I then told her that if she wished to send the inspectors around that if they wished to listen to our music that they would be required to purchase a listening licence and if subsequently they decided to pay us a surprise visit that they would need a Special Listening Licence the price which would vary depending on the time they called, so it would probably work out cheaper for them to book a visit when they could listen to our music.

There then follows further silence —————————————

Ok she said thank you very much for answering my enquiry I shall now update our records !

Back into the house to struggle with the Zanussi and the customer must have wondered why I had a big grin on my face, still laughing now.

    Re: work dead

nope ! last two weeks extremely quiet and way down compared to same dates last two years ! but its not just us hardly anyone is busy and yesterday when I went into town all the shops were kicking their heels ! Pending election, holiday problems, severe downturn in the economy all adds up to this I reckon and no matter who gets in I cannot see things changing in the near future, I think we have got a rocky ride ahead.

Lets hope that I am wrong and it all picks up after the general Election !

Re: Good range under a grand?

Sorry to broaden this discussion but I am looking for a 60cm dual fuel cooker as our is on the way out. Have been looking at the Smeg stuff like the SUK62MBL5 or SUK61MBL5 these seem well built to me dont know much about Smeg as a company other than that we don’t seem to get a lot of enquires for their repair. Does Smeg manufacturer their own products and what about spares ? Having looked at the New World, Belling, Stoves stuff I was’nt that impressed.
