    Re: AEG Lavatherm Condenser Dryer:

Thanks Spindoctor, I managed to sort that out ok, thing is the felt was well worn and having fitted the new felt and plastic surround I got it all back together for testing.

All working ok for a few cycles and then I noticed that the drum action seemed odd, by this I mean that when the drum turns clockwise, rests and then counterclockwise some of the rests were long, too long in my mind that this machine still applies power to the heater when pausing and the rear heater cover got bloody hot with no air flow, so I stopped it, disconnected the element and observed it further. I now think that the module has a intermittent fault in that every now and then when it should do a short tumble in between the main rotations it freezes and will not turn thus allowing the heater to heat and eventually blow the blow out fuses on the heater.

Have checked the motor, motor capacitor and associated wiring, this ones a real stinker, have you ever had this before ? the module is special order as well .

Re: Paying For Waste.. BSH Boss Says They Shouldn’t Have To

The whole idea of this Green Enviroment is at best flawed, my view is that Goverments and local authorities merely use the green catch phrase to extract even greater amounts of money out of us.

Take for instance someone I know who works for the local refuse collection. Amazing as it may seem is that nearly everyone of us gets busy each week making sure that we have done our bit for mother earth by following the procedures laid down by the local councils for collection of waste from our houses. Now whilst its all well and good making sure that we have the right things in the right coloured bags it all goes terribly wrong if for instance someone decides to put newspaper in a recycling plastic bag, once thats found the whole load is deemed as unusable and is then destined for the landfill ! Same for the bottle banks, Green Glass, Brown Glass, Clear Glass Etc, if a green bottle is found in a clear glass container the whole lot is landfill and this it seems is common place.

As for the Appliances I blame the major retailers who have over the years pressurised manufacturers to build ever cheaper rubbish which will never last and is destined for the scrap heap. I think that the retailers like the sheds who have caused this along with the manufacturers should be held responsible and foot the costs of disposing of the stuff. Just like the supermarkets insist on all the various packaging to make their supermarkets look attractive they should be held responsible for the millions of tons of rubbish that they generate.

Until the whole thing is legislated with real meaning and enforced the problems will go on.

    Re: AEG Lavatherm Condenser Dryer:

Thanks Spin Doctor, having checked the Heat Exchanger that is clear, I cannot say if the customer bypasses the cooldown period but looking in detail at what you said about the new element and tell tale signs of the Heater case being bubbled, yes this heater case has such bubbles both sides of the case and the wire filaments are distorted and it has only been on the machine about three weeks,.

I am in the process of stripping the machine down to remove the drum having removed the back exposing the drum. However the drum is a bugger to try to get out in order to inspect the front seal as you suggested, is there a knack to removing the drum as it is stuck fast ! Also would the real concertina seal require replacement ?

Mind you Connect are quoting £ 70 odd quid for that front felt Seal !

Alex, sorry for being thick but how does pre authorisation work ?

we normally get landlords and letting agents to pay our labour cost up front by card and then if parts are required we quote them and they then pay for the parts, sort of pay as you go.

This plumber states that the work was unskilled ? How and what I wonder does he rely on to make that assumption ?

By mere fact that you are experienced in the service and repair of Domestic Appliances and run a professional company doing said work makes you a legitimate business which would be recognised in a legal way. The work that you done would have been way beyond the scope of this plumber so for him to try a do your job would make him unskilled in our profession and likewise for you if you were to try to take his job on.

As to if its worth the hassle of recovering the outstanding money its difficult to say but I would not be worried about challenging his claim and would ring him up and tell him so. If fact why not call him out to yours to repair the washing machine with a man made fault and let him spend his time trying to fault find it why you sit and have a nice cup of tea, after which you tell him he is unskilled and wont be getting paid at all !

Re: Comet Service & Customer Aftercare

Can you believe it ! Called out to a customer yesterday to fix their Bosch Dishwasher only to be informed that this is another Comet Extracare failure ! they called us because their sick of waiting for Comet.

This customer had to wait a week before they could offer a Engineer who had to go away and order a part, this evidently was a Programmer and the customer heard nothing, they then rang in after a week to find out what was going only to be told part out of stock but they would let the customer know when they had it. That’s nearly five weeks back still no parts on the horizon ?

Long story short I have ordered the part yesterday and I am going back to fit it today as the customer has put their Extracare Policy in the bin where they say it belongs ! Well who am I to argue that ?

So that is two very like situations I know of one on my doorstep the other 320 miles west. Seems to me that there is something going wrong with Comets spares operation or that they are dealing with the wrong suppliers. If I were a Comet Engineer I would be bugged at the fact that I could not complete the job anytime soon and then have to go back a face a angry customer into the bargain.

There’s another you can delete ! that will be the end of the problem then won’t it ?

Re: Comet Service & Customer Aftercare

Of course Martin ever the diplomat 🙂 there may possibly exist such an opportunity but I have no way of knowing how far certain forum members tentacles reach or over what Geographical boundries they may or maynot transcend. The other side of the coin is that perhaps someone may have volunteered to offer up more constructive help other than to merely dismiss the matter as being yet another raving customer moaning. perhaps this culture is part of the Comet service enviroment ?

Today I myself phoned Comet Service to ask some questions about the service and the policy which was sold.

PEACE OF MIND ? If something should go wrong, we’ll get you up and
running in no time. In fact, you’re guaranteed a fast,
no hassle repair service from Comet’s nationwide team of specialist engineers.

Words from Comet themselves ! Today when I phoned into Comet I was greeted by a female member of staff who was very curt and offhand.
Firstly I asked why they were having such difficulty obtaining the parts, she said that the parts were out of stock.

I asked her what due date was on these spares, she did’nt know nor could say.

I asked her what parts had been ordered by their engineer, she was unable to disclose that information to me.

I asked her if I could source the spares would they pay for them and send their engineer back to complete the repair. She said that would not do that.

I told her that I could get the appliance repaired by a local company within three days and send them the bill, she said they would not be paying that !

I asked her for the name of the service manager so I could take the matter up with them, she would not give the name and address of that person.

It was evident during the call that she wanted to get me off the phone as quickly as possible and she would not discuss the terms and conditions of the Extracare Policy which was in force.

I can think of no valid reason why this company is so difficult and obstructive in its approach to its customers. No Washing machine for nearly a month ! spares which are in stock at various suppliers if they had the real will to solve the issue.

I always shop at Comet as I find the staff in my local Comet very helpful and pricing which is good, I would rather deal with Comet than DSG anyday but this aftercare leaves a lot to be desired in this instance. I am sure that this cannot be indicative of Comet as a whole but I do get upset when others retort that this situation is make believe and cannot be as described.

My friend has now ordered a new washing machine being delivered tomorrow and Comet can now repair this appliance at their leisure !

    Extracare ? ExtraHassle more like

Re: Comet Service & Customer Aftercare

Well Helo_75, I am afraid that it is ! As I have stated already this is not some rambling customer telling me this but a personal friend and they asked me for some advise on the matter. Therefore I have been following this from the very start and its a fact that Comet are unable to supply the parts required after three weeks and cannot provide any information as to a due date for the parts. All they say is that after a predetermined period the matter will be subject to review and investigation, so these are the facts of this matter and I am aware of what has transpired from the start to where it is now.

Perhaps you can explain why after three weeks Comet don’t have the spares to complete the job ? and also explain why they are unable to provide a future date for the completion ?

Is it common practice to tell customers they cannot speak with the service manager to complain ?

Kwatt said: But what you can’t argue is that the poor grunts on the ground that are given the orders to carry out do so to the best of their abilities with the constraints and limitations that are imposed upon them by the above.

Oh yes I agree with that entirely, mate of mine left comet service recently because of the internal disorganisation, inflated requirements of the workforce, disgruntled customers that he had to deal with directly in the line of fire.

Glad I am doing it for myself and not at the mercy of these Generals and their clueless support
