    Re: Hotpoint CTD00

No I checked for chaffed wires where they pass through the rear of the back panel to the heater.

Problem now solved, machine scrapped and new appliance supplied !

    Re: What Is Actually Fair?

    Agreed !

Heres another, my dog was unwell recently and of we trot to see the local vet. After her prognosis she decideds my poor doggy needs an injection, some antiboitics plus a futher consultation in a weeks time.

All standard stuff one might think?

Well the vet has not left the building, has not had to make any phone calls, we have had to make our way there, we had to ring them, oh and go when it was ok for them? When I got the bill I was prepared for the cost of the consultation, the medicine the poor doggy required.

What I was not prepared for was the £ 5.00 dispensing fee ! ????

Yeap thats right, they made a charge not only for the drugs, but for counting out tablets from their bulk supply into a small bag for us.

So it seems everyone is charging for anything that they do, why should we be any different ?

Mm Interesting, I heard that if you are turning over more than £ 5080 Per Month then the VAT people would be on your back.

So if 67,0000 is the threshold for being registered that would leave a lot of scope for the man in the van scenario would it not ?

Surely the whole idea is to be able to trade, earn a decent living without the shackles of the VAT system to contend with. I wonder how many of you are working this idea sucessfully I would be interested to know plus of course along with any tips ! 😉

    Re: Plastic guarantees?

This ones an old chesnut is it not ? As engineers we can only fit the parts that are available and in the case of door cathes Servis in particular you are right to offer a guarantee that lasts until your out the building. Everyone knows how flimsy the Servis catches are and why should we have to offer a ongoing warranty on these crap parts especially in a Rental Accomodation enviroment where the landlords are happy to take the money but are notoriously known for NOT wanting to pay out !

No its a sad fact, Landlords normally by base entry level appliances to fit in these properties and everything is done on the cheap the modus operandi being that the Landlord has the view that ” It ain’t worth putting anything decent in as it will only get wrecked ! Is it any suprise then that when something does get wrecked they have got the nerve to try a play on idea that WE are to blame , I don;t think so !

    Re: The Romanian Connection

I cannot blame anyone for wanting a better way of life or for wanting to escape this country where fleecing the hard working people seems to be the order of the day.

However us Brits seem to go bounding in buying holiday homes, plots of land which experience has shown can be a very risky business even in established EU countries. There is a lot of ancient history in the eastern block sector which many Brits fail to understand or even know about and as picturesque as Bulgaria and Romania are I would be worried that there exists the capacity for instablity. Recently friends of mine were on holiday in Bulgaria and the place was overun with what was described as local mafia who appeared to run everything!

I would exercise caution but wish anyone investing there the best of luck.

    Re: Fuel Prices

Intresting to see that the Fuel Price subject is back on the agenda, I raised this very subject way back last November when I decided to increase charges to go some way to addressing the balance.

The sad fact is that all of us as consumers are footing the bill of fuel, we all need fuel one way or another and we are all paying the high costs. Of course there is NO shortage of fuel OPEC are not producing enough to which is creating high oil prices. Add the increasing taxes and this is why we are all suffering.

Come October further Tax will be added and more than likely oil will be costing us more. perhaps £ 6.00 a gallon ?

Food prices have gone up as all of our food is transported hundreds of miles to the supermarkets. We the consumers have got to pay the costs and the Goverment still will not knock any money of the tax they levy.

Some how the public need to mobilse into a organized group and force the politcians to reduce the cost of fuel to a level where the fuel companies make a respectable profit and the Goverment can manage the public purse. I believe that it could be done but all the while we allow this to continue we will in the end be forced to either pay or pass these costs on to the end users of our services just like the hauliers and big companies are doing. The major airlines are going to be adding fuel charges to holidays already booked and paid for as the companies will not ride the excessive costs they are facing.
