Iadom said: PPS. Guess who was the last poster in the linked thread

Yep that was me, wrapped wrists and all that, but that said I was trying to find out if months on people were still having this issue and exactly what powders. tabs or liquids this seemed to be confined to.

Re: The Story of the Fairy

Thats an interesting point of view Bill, we have sold many ISE 52 and 2s and out of all of these sales I have had two customers who have complained. The point is that this particular customer has had the machine for eight months ! and has only complained in the last two months of leaks, the first was down to a plumbing problem which was nothing to do with our installation or the ISE appliance, the second was when the pump became intermittant and chewed a hole in the door seal and resulted in a repair.

I cannot imagine Curry’s or Comet’s refunding on a machine that has been in service for half its warranty period. The problem is that customers are guided by directions on the detergent packing and those directions clearly state that the information is for guidance only, thus adjustments may have to be made depending on water hardness, water quantity and drum volume. My other customer has adjusted her dosing to suit the ISE but this customer may be far more diffcult to deal with.

I understand your reasoning to keep the client happy but I will have a word with the guys at ISE about this issue.

Re: Much work in South West area?

Martin I was going to add that I lived and worked in the South West for a couple of years but admitedly not working in the White Goods Service & Repair Field, that said work was tough to find down there and as a lot of its rural I could well imagine a high fuel bill come the end of the month.
That said there are areas down there that are fairly condensed and I would if I were consdering such a move want to work somewhere like that. On the flip side of that as the guys who are located there have said they find work sparse and realistically they cannot relish the thought of yet another compeditor moving into their patch !

That all said I am a great believer that if your minded, flexable, adaptable and inventive and good at what you do its probable that you could make a go of it almost anywhere.

    Re: Can’t Think Of One!

Looking at whats been suggested its hard to see how it would work in practice. Forgetting the idea of a Reduced percentage of VAT for a moment my belief is that the large majority of the people in the Houses of Parliment and the House of Lords have little idea of what to do or how to go about it. When it comes to having ideas to save the enviroment or indeed save us from ourselves MONEY is the driving force of their blinkered vision of how to make us do what they want. MONEY that we all have to find in the blind belief that it will stop us from doing various things.

Lord whats his name has suggested a label system that the public could use to see how enviromentally friendly a product may or may not be !

Remember the Food Standards Agency ? another goverment qango ! all that consists of is yet another bunch of wallers on high salaries who are meant to regulated and oversee a labelling system for the food industry, people are so busy these days looking at the high prices of food on the supermarket shelfs that FSA lables are the last thing on the mind of the shopper. Like has been said all the various half baked ideas that this lot have had are never backed with any cash and is all talk as far as I am concerned.

Don’t get me wrong I am all for anything that helps us but how is it that as mere Domestic Appliance Engineers there are enough viable minds here who could easliy come up with real sustainable ideas that would make a real difference to the problems of not only our industry but the wider enviroment ????????

Politcians ? Who needs them !

Another slant on this is that over in the Kent Weald those drums could be sold on as decorative flower tubs, look great outside some of those large houses ! 😀

Re: Cowboys still riding the range

Had a call yesterday the guy said that he had a Hotpoint DF series dishwasher which would not fill and had another firm out eleven weeks ago to repair it but they have said they are having trouble getting the part. ? Mm as this call was just outside my area and work is patchy I thought that I would take the job and go have a little look.

Having arrived at the guys house he tells me that the firm that came out eleven weeks ago charged him £45.00 and siad theywould get the part to fix his appliance. He has been badgering them every week since and still they maintain the part is a problem to obtain.

I asked him what part they were trying to get, he told me that they would not tell him what part was required ! A joke or what I ask.

Anyway my suspicions were proven correct, having had a quick look it was obvious that the problem was with the Heater and it required a new one. Gave the guy a qoute and he coud’nt believe that I had quickly identified his problem, gave a qoute and said that if he wanted it sorted I would be back the next day. I told him that the real reason that the other idiots had not been back was that they had’nt a clue what was really wrong with his appliance but he was £45.00 down as a result.

Yes there are cowboys running around out there carving it up for the likes of us who try a do a accurate and honest job to the best of our ability.
Needless to say I have gained another customer and the cowboys lose out again as these people won;t be calling them anytime soon.

    Yipee I I, giddy up trigger !

Re: Just what do the public want?

These are probably the very same customers who want cheap cheap cheap. The same ones that purchase a Beko a are spitting feathers when the thing breaks down beyond viable repair just oustside the warranty period !

Its true there are many customers who want something that will last and these are the people you need to target IMHO. Who needs the bother of the Beko Clan to contend with ?

    Re: Time for a rethink.

You guys are not alone, far from it ! We are an established company, basically just ticking over, no jobs tomorrow, non Friday and nothing Saturday ! Its definately worse for work and with the Kids breaking up and people shooting off on holiday this time of year is normally spasmodic. I also know colleagues who have companies like Heating and Gas Servicing with no work, opticans with few customers, car sales with not a single car being sold for two weeks ! So it does not seem to matter what trade you are in at the moment, my mate has just laid off 200 workers on his construction firm !

We can only hope and pray that it will recover at least to a situation where work picks up.

Anyone who has been in this trade for any amount of time would have to be very lucky not to have come into contact with this type of customer, we have all had them. You are right that once the engineer is giving one word answers the customers need to be real thick not to understand that you no longer wish to talk. At the end of the day its all part and parcel of dealing with Joe Public. lol

Re: Letting agency work – tenants fault – who pays??

We work for a few letting agents and get enquires every other week it seems from other agents ringing around looking for repair work.

The funny thing is these calls normally start of like, we did or have got someone doing the repairs but they are becoming unreliable ! Thats agents speak for we got someone doing our repairs but we think they are charging us too much. Then they go on to ask about charges and if we will do free estimates for them if they pass jobs to us.

I explained only yesterday that with the price of fuel, wages and everything else I cannot afford to work for free, I explained to this agent that it would be like me asking him to let me move into one of this properties for a week but I would not want to pay him any money.
He said that he understood and off he went and have heard no more, so he is probably still ringing round other companies trying to get something for nothing,

    Funny ole game
