Thanks for that. I feared that might be the only way, though I’m surprised you suggest 2 days rather than 1. Either way it’ll have to wait some while until we’ve eaten the contents!

Any thoughts on the bit that dropped off? I’m wondering if it might have been stuck to the compressor to dampen the noise down a bit (not that I’ve noticed any increase in noise)? If so, I assume it’s not vital?

Thanks, it seems to be well into the 5-10 sec range, and seems to rotate very freely, so is hopefully OK. Presumably the glow couldn’t be some sort of issue with the element itself being on the way out?

Either way, it looks like it would be a major headache to find a replacement oven that fits in the space available. The current one has a depth of 515mm, and as far as I can see they all seem to be significantly deeper these days.

Thanks, I’d seen that, but all it says is ‘Insert the covers’. No amount of pushing/sliding will seem to persuade the largest part of the cover to fit into the large part of the hole!

Thanks for that. I’m now told that there’s a possibility that it may have been switched to ‘Hot Air Grilling’ rather than normal oven mode. I guess that might explain the burnt food, and also why the oven thermostat appears to be working OK for me now?

Those fan motors do fail though and that motor running slow, cutting out or just plain not running, will cause the element to fail. It’s not uncommon to have people replace the fan oven element only to be replacing it a few months later because the fan motor is a bit dodgy.

It’s easy to miss though as the natural assumption is that if the element fails and the fan works then it’s just the element at fault.

By simply opening the oven door and looking through the fan vent at the back of oven I could see that it was not spinning.

Having said that, I tried this morning and the fan is running as usual. Is there some sort of (thermal?) cutout on the fan that takes several hours to reset itself?

Thanks, I attempted that a few months ago. Whilst changing the door to hang the other way was fairly straightforward I then had problems with the door seal, which seemed to catch on the hinge side preventing the door from closing properly. I couldn’t figure out how to solve this and ended up putting the door back to it’s original state. My guess was that maybe the seal was more worn on one side than the other, but perhaps there’s a way to resolve that problem?

Looking at the top hole on the non-hinge side of the door I can’t see any sort of insert that is obviously removable, or perhaps they’re difficult to see/remove?

We cooked a shop bought pie in it today (of a type we’ve had many times before), and it seemed to cook significantly quicker than normal. The pastry was starting to become burnt after about 25 mins, whereas we normally leave it in for 40 mins.

If it’s still behaving oddly tomorrow I’ll get a thermometer. I know they’re not particularly accurate, but it should give some indication of whether the temperature inside changes according to the temperature setting of the oven (i.e. whether the thermostat is really doing anything at all).

No, “Rinse Hold” is not a button but is a setting on the spin speed selector. It definitely wasn’t selected. Perhaps the load was just unbalanced and it gave up?
