ParticipantRe: Ignis oven fault code
Now I have just received a call saying that the same oven is throwing up a fault code. This time is F06. The lady says it worked well since I replace the board until today she decided to turn the self cleaning on. Then it came up F06.
An the whitegoods fault codes, there are no fault code of this number. Can anyone help?

The said dishwasher appears to be working. I didn’t really do anything to it other than removing the motor and give a twiddle. My thoughts were that when I removed the wash motor, I may have loosen it up. Or that QER who tested the board may have “reset” it thus made it work. I will never know for sure. One thing I’ve learnt that the ‘o’ ring seal for the motor onto the heater assembly does not come as separate.
If you wanted a new seal then you will need to buy the whole heater assembly! So I kind cured it with debor to seal it. Handy stuff, I tend to use the debor as a last resort.
I thought I update you on what had happened.

I finally got a new board from Masterpart, it is now fitted onto the oven and in full working order.
The annoying thing was the original board needed reconfiguring, I will have to do that with the new board anyway and there was an instruction leaflet that came with it. If I had access to the instructions in the first place then I would have saved my customer’s and me money, time and efforts.
Where can I share the info in case if anyone need it?

I have just seen £149 Beko washing machine from a local electrical retailer. I have just replaced the brushes on a Beko washer, the cost of repair was nearly half of the cost of the new one. I dread to think what will happen if I am asked to replace the brushes on those cheap Beko.

Ok thanks, I will give QER a call to double check then will contact the customer to arrange new appointment.
I would have thought the relay would have been tested at QER, like I said I will give them a call to check. Will keep you posted. On the previous thread about attaching a 40w light bulb, did you mean a normal light bulb from a table lamp? I will have to try that out as well.

I wonder what the average age of guys going on Graham Dixon’s course is? Probably 52. 😉
The course I attended, the average age were around 24 years old. Well there were only three of us in the end as one of them jumped ship after two days which we started off as 4 men. There was an 18 years old, 20 years old with a yellow van with a screwdriver on the top and me as 34 years old. 😀

The board was clipped inside the door. Interesting theory about pressure switch but this one does not have one as it is tacho driven if that is right word.

electrofix wrote:so is your got the same faults as mike? or does it present slightly differently.
when you said you had the board looked at do the test it fully or is it just a visual check?Dave
I sent the board off to QER to have it tested. Costed me nearly £10 for only to come back as no fault found.
The fault description sounds very much the same as Mike’s. Basically the dw starts off first drain then fills then no wash action. No lights flashing. You can reset it for it to drain out. I checked the motor for jamming or stiffness, all appears to be in order. I would very much like to do “live” test the motor to see it in action so I can eliminate it. QER suggested suspected fault lies within the heating circuits. I do know that the heating circuits are fine. The insulation readings are well above 2000mohm.
The only thing that bothered me was the readings from the clamp meter showed during the “silence” while waiting for the wash motor to kick in. The readings showed fluctuations of 4 to 900 milliamps, one thought it was the capacitor assuming the one on the board but like I said the board was tested. Unless there is another capacitor elsewhere like this from Connect (5031684780266) causing the problem? The description seems misleading as it looks very much like a suppressor rather than capacitor.
The ohms readings from the wash motor is 30ohms. Is this normal?

I too is having the same troubles with the same dw. I even had the board sent off for inspection and it came back as no fault found.
I was asked to check heating circuits, i checked the heater, all is fine.
At the moment I am trying to figure out what to do next as it will be my third trip to the customer’s dw.

Which is why we should have a recognised qualification and regulated. If you can get anyone to care…
That will be £2000 for the course and qualification, it’ll take a week so add that cost.
Then it will be £1000 per year to maintain, five year renewal cycle. Costs more because there’s less of us than there are plumbers, gas fitters, electricians etc.
The high cost will increase warranty rates sure, but it will make repairs to all but the very high end product uneconomical therefore producing still more waste. Of course due to the low volumes there will be higher costs to repair and less people doing it. So less will get done.
Give it a few years and there would be no repairers at all.
Still keen?
If you are and you’re so convinced you’re correct, knock yourself out trying to find the government department that would deal with such requests then try to convince them that you are right and that they should splash out countless thousands on the barmy notion.
Meanwhile, I will not support and probably never will support such an idea as I think it’s suicidal and there isn’t a shred of evidence that convinces me otherwise. People ranting about it is NOT evidence by the way.
K.
I am too surprised at your comments, I agree that it is costly to get up to certain standards especially in an area where people don’t fully appreciate the value of Domestic appliance engineers. But I have few questions to ask…
Are we alone in this country have this problem or is it Europe-wide? Seeing that we are part of the EU regardless of people’s views, we get quite a lot of our trade/products from Europe despite some appliances were made in China but still it is done via EU. Are France, Germany, Spain, Italy have problems with recognising domestic appliance engineers? Also what are their recall system and their standards? I think the UK seems to have the most strict rules on electrical safety and putting public interests first. What EU have in place are often seen as inferior compared with the UK regulations, we are often one step ahead of EU regulations and they look up on us to set benchmark for EU wide standards.
I find it frightening/worrying when you say that “give it few years and we will all be gone”, it’s very defeatist attitude.

ParticipantRe: CDA WC130 dishwasher – Whirlpool made
I sent off the board to QER to have it checked out, came back as no fault found but on the job sheet from QER stated suspected a fault on the heater circuit.
Scratching my head wondering what this means… the heater unit itself or the wiring or the heater circuit on the board?
I am running out of options on how to fix this dishwasher. Part of me thinking I should replace the heater and motor unit and hope for the best. But this is rather expensive way of doing this and there’s no guarantee it will work out.
What are your thoughts?

ParticipantRe: Another rip off merchant on my patch
The owner was planning to replace the machine anyway but it is shocking!
The worse thing is that he advertises next to my advert in the local advertiser. I feel like giving the advertiser a call saying that this guy is ripping people off. But what can you do?
The guy insisted to be paid in cash but not cheque, surely the owner should have smelt a rat. No proof of payment was made. Anyway, the wife was not very happy with him and blames her husband for not calling me to do the job as she wanted me to do it.
In some degree, I find it quite comforting that I charge people a reasonable fee and takes cheques as payments knowing that the other guy wants cash.

Sounds like you and the machine weighs 300kg. I shall presume the machine is the heaviest! 😉

I brought a wheelchair lift for £50 off ebay. Bolted it to the floor of the van, cable back to the battery with a fuse and isolation switch
job done! Lifts 300kg fits me and a machine on it is an absolute god send!!Phil
That’s extra weight for the van. Is it worth it? Wouldn’t a simple wooden ramp do?
