I’ve already sent a PM to Chris after his post was made (Friday evening). I’m waiting a reply.

I can’t see, nor recall any 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Discount being agreed between the WTA & Europart.

I’ve asked Chris to send me details of WTA 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Discount deal with Europart. Knowing Chris, I would have expected Chris to raise this with the WTA as an issue before starting a thread on it though 😉

A note to remember… Any WTA Discount is offered by the supplier to WTA Members. It is the members responsibility to ensure that any agreed WTA Member discount is in place within their own trade account.

    Re: 0800 Repair

Does the following mean that they can advertise what they like, but as long as they have a disclaimer that the consumer will probably never see, they’re ok…?

The last sentence is legendary…! It basically says, do not use the information we display to make a choice…?
How stupid is that…? A website is there as a ‘Shopfront’. To attract the consumer, just as a sign does outside a shop. You advertise what you do and how to use you… Simples! To then turn around and say (In layman’s terms), ‘Oh, but don’t take what we advertise as gospel’ is slightly odd…!

Why would a reputable company have such a disclaimer? 😉 8)

I’m sorry that you feel that way Martin.

Just as you might think, that by me being somewhat, passionate about our competition telling the truth on adverts that they have every right to place (As it is an open market), might mean I’m doing the WTA harm, there has been another poster in that thread that has insulted me directly and ‘Jested’ about the thread, when he is a DASA Council Member. I consider that also does DASA an injustice given their contractual link to 0800Repair, but hey, how hasn’t that caught your eye and made you think the same…? Is it because you’re pals…? A DASA Council member telling me to ‘GET A LIFE’ after pursuing something that he himself as a DASA Council Member should be as concerned as me about, was a bit shocking…!

Anyway… I am a free speaking individual. My input in to the 0800Repair thread and pursuance of the fact that ANY competition should advertise fairly and honestly has been from me, Adrian Welke. End of.

The WTA are there to try and make things better for the ‘Independent Business’ in the long term. Not partner or endorse National Repair Companies that are in direct competition to the independent guy, so even if this was a WTA issue… What would be so wrong in that…?

Bottom line is, if what I’ve said in the 0800Repair thread has damaged or dented the WTA in the eyes of it’s members or council, please remember I speak as an individual and send your thoughts directly to me or the WTA Chairman. At that point, we’ll discuss my freedom of speech and association to the WTA more. Until then, regardless of my association with the WTA, if I feel I want to pursue something, I will.

It’s hard not to find the main site, however you look, but anyways… That’s good to know 🙂

In these cases, I presume the call center operative will then explain that the engineer they get is not CRB Checked and not a DASA Member (If applicable) 😀

Or do they not expand that much to a consumer on what a ‘Sub Contractor’ means?

mikeday0800 wrote:0800 do not market areas were they have no franchise or employed engineers

    Really…?

Is there an 0800 Franchisee in cardiff? 😉

Am I correct in assuming that all Franchisees such as yourself, get an 0800Repair ‘Local’ site, just as yours and ovenrepairsinscunthorpe.co.uk? The ‘local’ site will display the details of the Franchisee and also their direct contact details?

Because if so, I can see 19 out of 20 (The one that did display a Franchisee was Scunthorpe as above) of my web searches I just carried out resulted in the ‘appliance repairs…….’ website, not an 0800Repair ‘Local’ website, with no Franchisee listed and just a form to fill in that goes to 0800Repair Call Center. So I believe they do market areas with no Franchisee.

    Just an observation of course.

    Re: 0800 Repair

In an ideal world Martin, yes 🙂

However, I have (Via PM or conversations outside UKW) a few that have confirmed that they carry out 0800Repair work for JTM and are not either of the advertised criteria.

Obviously I’d never repeat who in a Trade Forum. It’s up to those if they’d like to appear publicly to confirm, but regardless, it’s happening.

As I said to DASA, a small investigation would highlight this and they could re-visit any chats they’ve had…!

    Mike,

We are all aware that 0800Repair Franchisees and directly employed engineers are CRB Checked and members of DASA. This was cleared up quite a few pages ago… No issues there 😀

I’m asking whether you think it’s morally and/or legally right (In your opinions) if 0800Repair advertise to the consumer those facts without making it clear that in a lot of areas throughout the UK, they don’t have Franchise cover, so therefore, they’ll actually get an independent engineer, sub contracting to JTM Contracts, that is NOT a DASA Member, nor has been CRB Checked…!

    Simples…!

    Ok… Back on topic…

washdoctor wrote:Let’s sum it up quickly.

0800 Repair (A competitor to every independent repairer in the country) advertise to the consumer false facts on their website that WILL encourage some consumers to use them over you and that’s ok. That’s morally and legally fine? Yeah?

DASA are aware that one of THEIR MEMBERS (0800 Repair) are advertising something that is misleading and cannot be guaranteed nor logistically possible (Due to a lack of Franchisees and needing to rely on non CRB Checked JTM Agents), but that’s ok. That’s morally fine? Yeah?

If people read those 2 questions and can honestly say, yeah, that’s fine… Then I’ll shut it. I’ll side with Martin, admit the trade is doomed and I’ll move on in to the yonder with my tail between my legs.

    Ok Mike.

Does it say on the 0800 Repair Website “Fully trained and CRB vetted”…?

You’re now going to say ‘Yeah, and we are’…! :rolls:

Have you missed the bits about JTM Agents (NOT FRANCHISEES) visiting consumers on 0800 Repair calls, that are NOT CRB Checked…?!

Have you missed the bits about JTM Agents (NOT FRANCHISEES) visiting consumers homes on 0800 Repair calls, that are NOT DASA members?

You earlier indicated that you joined DASA by choice, not by force of condition of Franchise. Can you confirm, in your contract, does it state that you have to be a DASA Member? < Only a yes or no will do here 🙂

    Jeez… Seriously, READ back…!
