BlockedRe: RepairCare Rate reduction issues
I personally believe that Lawrence, not just about NESN, don’t really know what to believe about the competition, but about passing cuts DEFO! I asked in their forums (As it states on their letter they have made internal cuts also) what cuts they have made to share this burden, it was deleted!
I agree they don’t have to publicly announce what they’ve done to soak up some of the loss, but it should have been replied to! Even if it was speak to RC Management!
I’ve started to think about other things now TBH, this trade f**ks me off. I have an opportunity to venture into something different which I’m seriously considering… Not that I’d ever quit the appliance trade, or would voluntarily change my Business role model, but this b00locks has made me think f**k it! My life AINT going to depend on other people pulling the strings!
Sadly, for me the answer isn’t go get more contracts or work to spread the load if one goes or pulls the rug, but more along the lines of this Business is NOT going to be my sole dependency much longer! F**K that! No-one will EVER sit with a gun to my head, at MY desk, as my RC Manager / Friend had to do the other week without me being in a position to say on your bike mate… Like now!
The knife for me, was not the reduction, but the way they went about it. There’s loads I can say about that, but can’t be ars*d! Can tell you more over a beer, but IMO, they’ve been very decieving over the past 4 Months in things that have occurred and things that have been said to us!
Grrrrrrrrrrrr, I hate this thread! I’m leaving it here or I’ll still be talking to myself at 1AM!!!

Meeting with who? I read that as you mean D&G? Needs clarifiying if it wasn’t them you spoke with to stop rumour and prevent Dan76 worrying about a life on crack 😆

BlockedRe: RepairCare Rate reduction issues
Think I’ve been put on stop!!
No new jobs yesterday, woken up this morning, still 0 new! Usual weeks, we’d have had loads yesterday, and at least a few by now on a Sat!
In 3 yrs of doing CDSL work, I’ve NEVER seen a day with no new jobs! Worst I’ve seen in ‘quiet’ times is 5 or 6 new in a whole day!
So either, we have fixed everything, I’m on stop or I’m it’s DEAD out there and I’m being paranoid! 🙁

BlockedRe: sept 2010 meeting
Not deleted 🙂 Lots of views, but no replies! And the rate reduction thread had died too!
Think people might be scared to speak now!
Anyways, I know (ken) you’re working on a job management system, but I can get Neil Writing from PC Control Systems there if you want? They do Service Base, it’s very good, and the support is unbelievably good, so I’m happy to recommend them to other repairers. People might be interested? And it’s another advert?
What do we think?

Increase service / sales costs?… It’s because of all of us (UK general public), that everything is so cheap and service costs are so poor! We all, want something for nothing! We all want the best deal, so Manufacturers have to price accordingly, as low as possible to get the appliances moving off shelves & into people homes to compete in our greedy world and win our money! All be it cars, washers whatever!
Repairs & Service is a burden to Manufacturers whilst in warranty! If an appliance NEVER broke down in warranty, it would be a dream come true as although our trade would be demolished, they wouldn’t have the burden of costs, after sales!
If it were cheaper to employ engineers, I’m sure every Manfacturer would! As, behind every Company name, there are very well educated people that do the maths! Subbing it out, to whoever, with no liability bar put pressure on ‘X’ Company is the cheapest and easiest way to get rid of after sales costs!
I worked for Merloni before going Self Employed, I had at least 4 or 5 occasions where my ex regional manager had got us all together and tried selling the franchise to us! Why? Because we’d have been cheaper! This doesn’t really come down to providing 1st class service IMO, although companies advertise the fact and DEMAND it from WP’s, it’s all about the dollar! Shame, but IMO, true!
My opinion is simple! Manufacturers / Insurance companies need or want to cut costs… Fine, we understand! But T&C’s of policies or guarantees could include customer liability also to ensure that these cost cuttings do not result in employers having to make good, hard working staff redundant, without having to lose a sale! For instance: (In Laymans terms), you book a service call and you go out, you might be liable to a callout charge! You book a service call and there is nothing wrong with it, you might be liable to a callout charge! If the appliance is installed in any way other than manufacturers instructions, in other words, if the engineer cannot remove the appliance due to your custom install, you might be liable to a callout charge!
The above cost us money, we knock a door, no-one is home, who loses… Us! We attend and it’s a no fault, who loses… Us! We attend and the appliance has been tiled in & cannot be removed, who loses…? Us! Therefore, if these costs to the independent engineer were removed, charges could be more ‘negotiable’ and rates could be agreed dependant on terms! I had 2x out calls today (Both confirmed, and both logged on the relevant systems), if they were 1st time fixes, would have been around £85 income. As they were out, I have ZERO income, it cost me £44 in expences (£22 per job it costs me to get a man to a door) AND I still have to send the engineer back (So I start those 2 jobs on a -£44 when they get rebooked, can I also say, £44 is almost a full tank of fuel for 1 van)! These are costs that we need to get rid of, remove these, there would be no issue EVER with Manufacturers / Insurance companies or WP’s IMO!
The answer to having a bright future, isn’t employ engineers, as that aint ever going to happen (Nationally), but (For the Manufacturers / Insurance companies & WP’s that read this)… Toe the line with us, the independents that drive to and knock YOUR customers doors! That deal with YOUR customers face to face, and represent YOUR brand and do our VERY best to keep them loyal to you by providing, a very, very good service!
I’ll repeat it again… Customer Liability! These are losses WE have to lose. Lose these = Happy everyone!
That’s my lot, An unhappy Adrian Welke, Beech Appliances Ltd, South Wales!

I’m sorry for this, but why? Why does ANYONE agree to work before an amount is agreed or payment method confirmed?
1… You call a Gardener to look at you lawn, he’ll….. WHAT? QUOTE you before he starts the mower!
2… You call a car valeter as you fancy a treat and want the car done properly, he’ll WHAT? QUOTE you before he gets a cloth out!
3… You call a Decorator, he’ll WHAT? QUOTE you before he gets a brush out!
That’s all I’m going to say 😉

BlockedRe: WTA website update
Also, WTA members websites. There are 6 listed. As one would assume any member would have their website advertised FOC as part of membership, it’s easy to assume as Joe Public, we have like 6 members!
I’ve just been onto DASA site, they publish their members list… I think that’s a good thing, should we do the same?
