ParticipantThat A1,A2,A3 catagories idea for pricing seems like a great idea.
I used to use a psion 5mx for keeping track of my van stock and calls on the road, but now use a HP jornada 720, but any price changes have to be done manually in excel on the pc, and then syncronised with the Jornada. It is not that difficult, but then I’ve only got myself to worry about, it would probably be different for some of you guys who have multiple vans to keep track of.

Participantnormally the first two digits of the serial number will tell an engineer the manufacture date of the appliance, so it is generally quite easy to tell if an appliance is under 5 yrs old…I think the only time that they would try to void a warranty would be if another repairer had attempted a repair.

ParticipantI will advise the customer of hotpoints 5 year parts warranty, but as in iadoms case, many of them are happy to pay the extra in order to have me do the repair, I think that the main deciding factor is the sheer length of time that it is taking hotpoint to call out, then raise an ssr for the part, then come back and fit it, in some cases it is weeks and thats just too long for a woman with 4 kids to wash for.
I would add that if the repair is carbons, pumps, door seals etc, then I dont mention Hotpoints warranty, since I know that I am the cheaper and quicker option.
And at the end of the day, I still have my mortgage to pay, family to clothe and feed, so I for one would not be referring any hotpoint under 5 years old to the manufacturer, unless, as stated, they could repair it cheaper.washtec
ParticipantRe: 45 year old bendix
LOL 😀 ….I’m sorry to our more mature members for my retirement comment, but needless to say, with age comes experience, and up until yesterday I had never seen a washer of this age, but today, I’m chatting with engineers who have not only worked on them , but could give valuable technical info if needed and Litlor even had spare parts for them up until recently.
see, so being old aint such a bad thing ….phew!!..flattery..works every time.. :rotfl:

ParticipantOut of curiosity, I telephoned the customer, and asked her for the model and serial number.
MODEL: GR
SERIAL No: 00251961I am assuming that the 1961 is the manufacture date.

ParticipantRe: 45 year old bendix
I have sent some pictures to you, Martin and john, it is a gyromatic deluxe, but I can quite easily get the model number if you would like to know…By the way, some of you lads sound like you should be retired by now,…I feel positively young 😀

ParticipantI have never had a wma counter weight, break or work loose, although I dont like the fixing method…The first time Hotpoint used these bolts was to fix drum supports on some of the models, they came with the 1600066 kit, and there was a note inside saying that they could only be used once only and must be disgarded if tightened up and then removed, however I fear that this had more to do with the plate that it fixed into rather than the bolt itself.

ParticipantI normally drill two holes in the collar behind the shell, but I am going to give your method a go electrofix, There is one guy I know of who uses a dremmel to destroy the outer shell…although I find the hardest part of doing a WMA bearing job is getting the shaft off, I normally end up using my blowlamp and oven gloves 🙂

ParticipantI will normally remove the old appliance and take it to the scrapyard, were I can dump it free of charge, however for refrigeration, I will normally call the councils ERIC refuse service, this used to allow the free collection of old appliancs etc from the customers address, but since March of this year they have been making a charge of £15.00 per item collected,…a great money making idea dreamt up by some faceless pen pusher,..but in reality, the borough of wirral has seen fly tipping increase by almost 30 percent, and the ERIC staff who used to be so much in demand, are now working for another department called THE VULTURE, their job is to travel around and clear up the stuff that the once free ERIC service would once have collected, but is now strewn along the side of quiet roads and down alleys etc, will they never learn.

ParticipantRe: Where do we stand.
I find that bending over backwards to help some customers FOC (and I do occasionally), normally results in them calling you out for the silliest of reasons…but by charging them a proper call out or labour charge, normally ensures that they get out the instruction manual,….before picking up the telephone to tell you that the washing machine is making a swishing noise, when it normally makes a swooshing noise.
By the way..Hello all…1st poster 😀
