    Re: heating element resistance values

I forgot to mention, the old belt had no markings whatsoever. Just black all around. That is why I had to measure it…

Thanks for the photo, I don’t have the necessary tool to remove the nut behind the original heater. It is quite tight in there. I have to borrow it from a friend. It will take few days perhaps. I wasn’t really worried about the length of the element, but the place where the element sits in, is that standard size?

    Thanks!

    Re: heating element resistance values

Yes, I saw that but it has 3 connectors, while mine has 5 but obviously 3 are used, the rest just sit there and help keeping the connectors in place (they are totally disconnected). Also the original heater is 1950w, not that it matters much. But the important thing is, do you think can there be other size differences?

I tried to measure the belt and the inner diameter was about 1180mm but apparently the ones below fit to the machine (the model number is mentioned in both products).

I will check the belt tomorrow.

    Re: heating element resistance values

    Hi,

Thanks for the super fast response. I made more tests, if I put the plug upside down, rcd trips only when heater turns on. (I guess otherwise live wire goes to heater when it is off so it leaks at any point then).

The machine is an elektro-helios tt1168 does ukwhitegoods have heating element for it? I could send photo for confirmation if required.

I also realized the motor belt was full of tiny cracks, perhaps it would be good to replace it also. Is that also available?

    Thanks,
    Evren

    Re: Looking for a part

    Hi there!

Sorry for the very much delayed response. Because the machine was my friend’s friend’s machine, I was not in real hurry. I found a TOC and installed to the machine, but I was not there to test it. I just tried the test program (the machine enters to some test mode by pressing some button combinations at startup) and the motor was turning fine.

But after few months later, I think they put the machine in place to make an actual run and I heard that it was just jumping around like crazy and they had to sit on it so it wont get out of the bathroom πŸ™‚

I guess there was some other problem with the machine. At least we didn’t go and get a replacement motor. But I am not really interested in diagnosing it further neither the owner cares ( apparently buying is better than trying to fix ).

In either case, thank you for all the responses. The ukwhitegoods forum is one of the best forums I have ever been to, in the whole internet.

    Re: Looking for a part

    Hi Martin,

How is it going? I have to say, this is the best forum when it comes to whitegoods πŸ™‚ It is not that I came here directly, I found myself here after making many web searches. (and this seem to happen quite often)

I am not sure if I follow what you mean? Why the newer style does not have TOC and how does it apply here?. Do you mean we can bypass this safety feature? πŸ˜€

Also, the TOC in this motor was nowhere near brushes. It was on a plastic between the stator and rotator, pushed to a hole to near middle. I attached a photo. A small part of the white plastic holder is visible there, pointing with red arrow.

    Thanks,
    Evren

Electrofix, I think I actually found it and well the price is rather reasonable but it is in USA and if I order it the shipping fee was 2-3 times more than the item so…see:
    http://www.carbonbrush.com/klixonam.htm
I wont really bother with an old motor because I bet it wont be easy to find the same motor anyway.

    Re: Looking for a part

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I came here because I was looking at the same part also.

The part is suppose to ‘close’ automatically once the heating/error condition has passed. However mine stays open at room temperature also.I expected even if there is a problem in the motor which caused it to open, it should close again once the temperature goes back down. Can one really say that the motor is bad because the fuse is definitely broken? Because I tested the stator and rotor windings and they seem to give normal readigns at ohm meter and also tried to see if it will work when I manually close the circuit bypassing the klixon (for testing only) and motor seem to function fine.

I was thinking, isnt it possible that it just wore off in time since it changes temperature during normal operation, therefore small movements occur constantly inside the part which wears it slowly perhaps? This specific part has a very high resistance causing it to change temperature rather quickly. mine was 15AM 21
    http://www.sensata.com/download/15am.pdf

There are many 7AM 17AM etc. models but for some reason 15AM seems impossible to find πŸ™

    Thanks!

Re: Elektro Helios TT1168 washing cycle problem

    Hi Martin,

    You were absolutely right!

I moved the machine and there was a washer (more like a flat cogheel with jagged edges) under it.

Then I opened the side panel and I saw that the tachometer was lose. I just pulled it out and saw a magnet with a plastic screw type shaft lose also. I screwed in the magnet and tightened by hand while holding the drum (otherwise it kept turning slowly when I tightened the magnet in place).

Then pushed in the washer and apparently the edges are suppose to keep it in place, then just hit it in lightly until it went tight.

Actually, it looked exactly as in this photo.
    http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/images/ar … otor_3.gif

I guess I should put some glue in there also as described in the very detailed ukwhitegoods.co.uk article πŸ™‚
    http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/fix- … otors.html
It is funny how easy it is to find the article after the fault is fixed πŸ˜€

The tachometer generator on the end of the motor needs checking out. Wires to it broken? Magnet loose? Coil damaged?

    Hi Martin,

I am still amazed that people remember me here after all this time. I hope you are all doing great. Unfortunately I do not own any whitegoods (besides a fridge) so I rarely have problems related to them, but I have friends who always break their things :p

I will check the tacho coil and return back. I should have opened the machine and check things out by now but I thought this time I ask first and maybe save some time. It seems obvious now that you tell it and I did a web search about the tacho coil failures.

I will return back with more information once I get inside the machine

    Thank you very much!

If I learned anything from Candy, that was cutting the stuck parts when removing is the best way to go (as long as replacement is cheap) which was applied successfully on Renault’s stuck tie rod when replacing a broken cv boot. I dont have any photos about that πŸ™‚ but here is something documenting my adventure with the blower resistor of Renault with photos πŸ™‚

That was a good offer, although I never liked top loaders. I like seeing the clothes while getting washed πŸ™‚ this forum is really amazing, people are offering free washers and moderators are tracking you down and bringing back to forum etc. unbelievable πŸ˜€

All things considered that Candy is perhaps legendary between me and my friend who owned it as well, it sometimes comes up in the conversation when there is something which looks like it is impossible to fix πŸ™‚

I don’t think anyone could beat that thread Alex. That is by far the most impressive bearing change I have ever seen!

    Oliver.

    Greetings to all!

Guess what, I got an email from a moderator about my legendary thread being mentioned again here. This moderator went through the trouble of finding my web site and use online contact form to reach me, since my email address here in my profile was from my old school and wasnt in use and my web site wasnt even in my profile. Wow!

I didnt even realize I created sort of a legend here until I received that email. I think I will print it and frame it. πŸ™‚ it was the most surprising email I received ever!

    Thanks!
    Evren

PS. Unfortunately that Candy changed hands a while back and the next owner was not as stubborn as keeping it up and running, so… and my friend who owned it originally moved on to an LG DirectDrive which just didnt get broken yet -and I was busy with an old Renault Twingo which is not a white good heh- so I wasnt around here lately πŸ™‚

Earlier I thought the part was opening at 70C (it opens at about 58C-60C) but obviously the dryer gets warm too quickly when it is empty.

I got the part below and it is from elth and it says t175k and opens at about 58C-60C

I also got the 421307848373 – 60C thermostat and it opens at 60C. The difference is that the other one is rated 16A and the 60C one is rated 10A according to model number…

Now the machine is working perfectly fine πŸ™‚ Thanks for the help!
