Got called to a creda cooker C362E W. Top oven glass shattered(for whatever reason i don’t know or care). Replaced the glass and a day later she phones me being a bit snooty. Her daughter claims i fitted the wrong glass. She reckons i fitted the glass from a cheaper model that she had seen in the shop at the time she bought the cooker WTF!! because there is more of a gap between the top of the glass and the control panel! After phoning the supplier in her presence and verifying only one part number and sweet talking i managed to convince her otherwise.

Sometimes things like this make you want to quit :rolls:

I would have offered to remove the glass, send it back and order a different one. I would also mention that the other one is only available on special order and will take 4 to 6 weeks. If they then agree to this (well you never know!!) I would take the glass off, return with the same one 6 weeks later and put it back on 😈

No, the daughter would have noticed that it was the same one 😆

Something like that always happens when you do a job for an old person , and then the son/daughter gets involved. What you did is never right. I once repaired an integrated fridge freezer for an old lady and left her the bill for her son to pay. He knocked £1.37 off for spoiled ice-cream.

Needless to say I got it back with interest on the next job. 😀

I have landed myself a recent and annoying customer. She’s a non national and not from the EU but a little further south 8) . I have a feeling Nigerian.

I go to the house and repair the washing machine. She lives not too far from me so when i charge her it’s very reasonable. So i give her the bill. She then says that i can do a lot cheaper blah blah blah… So i agree to knock something off and we agree on a price. She goes for the money and comes back ” I have only this much money on me”. So basically after her haggling me and giving in i take a further cut in money. :rolls: .

I have done 2 jobs for her and she has done this twice.. very sneaky..

What annoys me is she phone late saturday evening and all day Sunday expecting me to drop everything and call to her. Luckily i knew her number and just let it ring..

I got a shandy the other day 😀

Anyhoo, twas actually the same customer that did the annoying thing. Intergrated Dilomat (what else?) DW, tripping C.B’s on program.

I went in, got me shandy 🙂 tryed turning the m/c on, nothing!

    “Is in plugged in?”

“Nah, we unplugged it when it was tripping the C.Bs.”

    “Where’s the plug?”

    “Behind it!”

“So you pulled out this intergrated m/c to unplug it, then put the m/c back again?”

    “Yeah, it took us hours!”

    :bang: :bang: :bang:

Same day I had the worse kitchen ever. There was a George Foreman on the washer, with no drip tray. Well, the washer was the drip tray!

It took me hours to pick all the grease out of the grips on me boots 🙁

This happened to me twice the other day.I’ve finished the job and just testing the appliance. The customers phone rings, she answers it and then disappears upstairs with it.I write out the bill and wait for the customer to appear but shes still yacking on the phone upstairs, wait a few more minutes and then go to the foot of the stairs and shout hello – she doesnt hear me because shes still yacking! Now theres a bit of a decision to be made -do you go upstairs or just get louder with your shouts.I decided to wait -the first one came down 10 minutes later and said ‘Oh are you waiting’paid and I left. The second one kept me waiting 2o minutes by which time I scribbled out my hourly rate charge and added £10 – hope she got the message!

    OOPS. 😳

Sorry Phidom, deleted your post in error trying to delete reaper’s duplicate post, damned server.

    Here is what you wrote.

    Phidom.
I never let that happen. If someone owes me money I demand that before I start any more jobs. I went further than that once. There was a woman who had owed me money for a year or more. One day her son rang me to ask me to do a job for him. I agreed to do it providing he settled his mothers debt first

Diplomat(whirlpool) d/washer..F7. Can’t cure the fault, he is on the computer to a forum ( not UKW) getting suggestions as to what it is. Try this, try that,
and the other, are you sure it’s the flowmeter.Well yes..P45 told me so it has to be right!!!!. Tried cleaning contacts to no avail. How much about £80 for the part. He disappears again, comes back and it’s only £65 on Whirlpool website. I had had enough by now, packed my tools and as I was going he said would I go back and fit it :rolls: I say no as you don’t trust me enough to get it right so sort yourself out 😈
Think he is stuck now as nobody does dishwashers where he lives. Do I care?????

Yes you do Rob and it’s a bu$$er when that happens mate. The fact is that it proliferates a lot these days with those seeking help via the Internet. Nowt you can do about that ’tis true, and ain’t the Internet a wonderment, it truly is. :rolls:

    Here’s a tip – and worth noting – 😉 …………..

When your phone rings and a new customer pops up and says “Hello! I’ve got your name off the Internet!”…Just flag that statement up with an indelible marker as a ‘caution’ from the outset. 8)

Another one……………..“Hello!, My husband’s tried to fix it but…..?”

Your next question should then be….“Does he ever use a computer to get info?” 😀

Had the same yesterday with an ‘internet know it all’.
Bosch WFF2000 flashing prewash light 5 times out of 10. Told me the fault is caused by low carbon brushes corrupting the software. 😯

    (Drain hose blocked).

He wouldn’t have it so told him to call in 10 washes time!

just occasionally you meet a customer you are glad to let meddle.. though not with the machine in my case.
T’was late last fri, last job of the day, putting a motor back on an Indesit I overestimated the torque those poxy plastic ‘nuts’ would take, one shattered & i was rewarded with a badly slashed finger pouring blood on her oak floor. The rear cabinet opening had an edge you could shave with :rolls:

Did my punter faint or moan about the mess i was making? not a bit of it, a very professional first aid kit was plucked from the cupboard & soon i was disinfected, splinted & bandaged & told to straight to casualty as she thought it may need “a wee stitch”. Turned out it needed several.

In all the excitement i forgot to get paid, but she got my address from the yellows & turned up that evening with the cash 😛

What have i learned from this? well i HATE Merloni products more than ever 👿 but it does prove there ARE a lot of nice people out there even though some weeks you dont seem to meet any 😉

Yes there are. The other day a woman I didn’t know phoned up and I talked her through sorting the problem out herself. I’ve forgotten what it was now; unblocking the washing machine filter or something. At the end she was really grateful and asked me how much she owed me for giving her the advice. 😯 Can you believe that?

Oh and while I’m writing, another opening line that should set warning bells ringing: “My husband’s an engineer and he…..”

That’s fatal. Once you do that they know they’ve got you. If the price you’ve quoted is fair, stick to it and explain why. Once you’ve haggled you can never go back to charging the proper price on future visits. If she claims not to have enough cash on her, take what she’s got, make sure you receipt her invoice accordingly and go back for the rest later. That way it won’t happen again on the next job. Even if you never get the balance of it, you’ve got the upper hand if she calls you back for another job, or if it goes wrong under the guarantee.

But whatever you do, don’t be tempted to do a ‘cash job’ with customers like that.
