Customer today: Can you call and look at my washing machine?
Me: Certainly (explain service charge etc ..) what make is it and what is the problem?
Cust: Don’t know what make it is I’m at work, it’s just not working?
Me: How old is it then and just roughly whats wrong?
Cust: Well it must be 15 years old, my housekeeper says it’s not working 😯After 15 years of having this thing her kitchen she had no idea of what make it was or how it worked, amazing :rolling:

I love the type that asks loads of questions as they book the call and you just KNOW they will ring back and cancel later. Don’t care if its two days in advance, it still leaves scribble all over one of my call slots 👿 .
Customer in question from yesterday.
Cust ‘Do you have a call out charge?’
Me ‘Would you like one…? explain min. charges if they decline repair.
‘Do you fix Hotpoint dishwashers?’
‘ Model number?….’ Ignored.
It was blocked up (won’t drain :rolls: ) so we put drain cleaner down it 😯 and used a plunger over the sump to try and clear it 😯 😯 ‘
‘So its still not draining ?(after reccomending they dont put corrosive chemicals down their dishwasher hoses).
‘Have you got the model number??’
‘ Yep I have it written down on here……(2 minutes later) HJA……’
FFS’ It’s not a Hotpoint its a Diplomat/ howdens own integrated’.
‘ Well my husband said its a Hotpoint’
After we’d gone through all the possibilities of what it could be she booked a call for Monday AM, me knowing full well that she’d ring back to cancel.
2 hrs later I was proved right, her partner had booked a call with somebedy else for this morning :rolls:TC

Called out to a brand new white knight dryer, fault over heating and burning smell.
Outlet hose connected to a waste pipe of the washing machine and taped over, would not accept that was wrong, then asked could they connect it to the toilet waste pipe.Kirk

Went to a Bosch maxx WTO machine today with no spin, the usual brushes. When i get there the woman informs me her husband and son had a go at looking at the machine last night and had bits taken out and put back in again 😯 . Anyway i put in the brushes and it spins away. I decide to do a rinse test and then i notice too much water going in and the rinse light then flashes. I take off the lid and nothing seems amiss. I take the little pipe off the pressure switch and blow and no blockage. I then blow into the switch and no click and no resistance air leaking out somewhere. Apparently they took the switch apart! The top of the switch clips off and the diaphram wasn’t put back in properly. I managed to get it working again , what possesed them to take it apart i’ll never know:rolls:

Tinternet. The number of people that proudly inform me nowadays that it’ll be the pressure switch (regardless of the fault :rolls: ) still amazes me. Most still won’t touch it though. 😉

Bit of a change today – called out to for 4 year old Indesit not filling. Valve had gone o/c, amazingly hadn’t taken the board with it. Replaced the valve, machine tested and working, happy days.
Noticed a Miele W310 looking rather unloved in the corner of the garage and asked what was wrong with it. “Oh, that works fine, it’s just the wife thinks it’s too old. I’ve actually been meaning to take it to the dump but it’s just too old and heavy – not like my Indesit! Why, is it any good for you for parts?”
Ummmmmm…. YES BLOODY PLEASE! :rolls: After checking that he was absolutely sure he wanted to give me a Miele I fetched the sack truck! Well, I wouldn’t want my customers to have a reliable machine :D.
Happily purring away doing a maintenance wash at the moment!

Had the same with a 2.5 yr old slimline Bosch dishwasher . I was working on the oven and saw it sat in the front garden . Customer said the council were picking it up later after it had gone pop and smoke came out the back. I checked it and told her it was just the interference capacitor popped and was fixable for less than £15 . She said ” no , i’ve lost confidence with it now and we’ve had the cupboard space changed. You can take it if you like ? “
” You sure ? ” i asked as i shot out the door and loaded it into the van !!Made a nice little profit on it selling it to my sister in law !

I had one like that too.
Called out to a Haier in guarantee for not spinning. OOB load. Noticed a Beko near the back door looking brand new. What’s up with that? Same fault as the new one she said and I was quoted £140 for a new motor over the ‘phone (no, not me), going to the tip today. I’ll have it. OK.
Got it home, tested and works and in perfect condition.
Sold for £120 a year ago.
I know Beko isn’t the greatest but to swap to a Haier :rolls:

i missed a call on the mobile this morning it was a land line, phoned the number straight back no answer, no answering machine, i have phoned every hour since (well is been a bit quiet) finally get the bitch at 8.30pm.
she says because i didnt get back to her she has made other arrangements.
i told her i had phoned a dozen times she said too bad i have made other arrangements.

You need to chill out a bit, suedehead 🙂 .
If you tell ’em things like that, they’ll know you’re desperate and they’ll play hard to get! Best find other ways to occupy your time / make a little money even, when there’s no work, and then you’ll be p’d off when the phone rings and interrupts you. That’s the best frame of mind to be in. You’re then in a strong position to negotiate a deal on your terms.
This trade is very unlikely to go anywhere but downhill, so it’s worth learning to do other things when you’re not busy.

Me: Answerphone will be off. I don’t leave it or my mobile on at weekends as I like some time off.

I say to them…I know what your doing this weekend then…somewhere on the net it states theres a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow..i ask them if there going looking for it…lol
