was at one today a car mecanic he had turned an indesit upside down to look for a leak.
there was a hole in the pressure switch tube.
water had run up onto the pressure switch connector and blown the board.
cost him a fortune to fix when it only needed a piece of tube.
i asked him as i left “if he gets a car with an oil leak does he turn it upside down?”November 19, 2010 at 12:31 am #107820bagman

Got there, Candy washing machine upside down on the floor from his attempts at “changing” the door seal. Machine just had suds lock as was VERY soapy, but suspension had come off and smashed filter housing. Put suspension back on, new filter housing and didn’t have to change one of those bloody Candy door seals – happy days.
Matey boy tried to haggle at the end by offering £20 because “I’d only been there 20 minutes”. Trying to explain to him how lucky he was that the PCB wasn’t smashed as well didn’t go down well 😆
And that’s where I would have done a 180 and left.
These jobs are just too much hassle to me, and they often come back with ‘other’ faults that must have been ‘your’ fault as it was alright until ‘you’ fixed it.
I’m not overstretched with work, but I never touch these jobs.Best recent one I’ve gone to was a little old lady with a zanussi slimline dishwasher. I walked in and ther was literally a pile of parts on the floor and a practiaclly bare cabinet. She’d took it apart to save me some time… bless her

Ok, time for my pet hate.
Why do customers leave a message on my answer machine asking me to call them, then when I do, say”Oh, I’ve already got someone else”.
Never once in twenty eight years of trading has anybody, who’s left a message and subsequently found somebody else, phoned me back to say thanks but no need to waste your time and money calling me back.
And, like other respondents, I also walk away when confronted with “My husband has taken it apart for you”. Once bitten twice shy. I once spent all morning on a w/m that had the lid off but, “Definitely nothing has been touched” turned into two wires on the programmer reversed. Then, at payment time, confronted with “You’re the expert you should have known”.
Lies, damned lies and customers.

Dick, that is my pet hate too. Its happening more and more, people don’t give a monkeys.
The worst ones are the ones which you phone back within minutes, but still have managed to get someone else in that short time. Why leave a message if your not going to give someone a few minutes to call back. 😡
I’m a slave to the phone, as we all are, so I can’t give the phone much more attention than I do.
😡 😡

Or who just say, “its all sorted now” (= hubby fixed it? emergency operator from 50 miles away rushed down and charged accordingly? the interlock has kicked in for now but will blow the board at next switch on?) And you’d been thinking, “how can I fit this one in as soon as possible and what parts are likely to be needed?” before ringing them back.
I don’t care about someone else getting the work; they must have needed it more than I do. I just would have liked to know if my intuitive diagnosis was right.

Tim and Dick,
I used to suffer this especially when I got home and rang them back. Now I get all incoming home calls directed to my mobile during 9-5. It costs me £2.50 a month plus some call charges and added to my bluetooth I can answer whether driving or up to my ears in a blocked dishwasher.
It certainly pays for me.

Rob, diversion to mobile. Been doing it for years! Still dosen’t stop it from happening though.
Yesterday had a call at 15.02, went straight to answerphone because I was on the phone to a customer.(Its like buses, two always come at once.)
Picked up message & called back the customer at 15.06. This was too late as she had booked with someone else.
This morning out of area on mobile, by the time I had called back when in better reception, too late. Time elapsed 33 minutes.
Your lucky if it never happens to you even with call diversion. 😉

Glad I’m not the only one with this pet hate.
As for call diversion:- my phone always rang when I’d just started washing my hands; when driving and I’d forgotten to put it in the hands-free cradle; when in dentist, hair-dresser, doctor etc. I’ve given that up now and consoled myself with the belief that the calls I’ve missed weren’t worth having anyway.
It’s just those who go to the trouble of leaving a message and still can’t wait a few minutes until I can call them back!

My philosophy too.
What kind of life is it if you have to be constantly attentive to your phone? And pay extra for the “privilege”.
OK, in the first few years of a business and if you haven’t got any other irons in the fire it might make sense. But to still be doing that when you’re middle aged is crazy.
Its the dog chasing its tail. (The cost of the calls + service + extra wear and tear on your body, mind, family, tools, vehicle etc. = extra money you end up with after all deductions.)
I may be headed for an old age of relative poverty but at least I might retain a little sanity.

Hi Bo,
Take no notice of those “miserable old beggars” 😉 (I’m 60 and slowing work down)
I’m with Plusnet for phoneline, broadband and calls. My bill comes out between £27 and £35 per month for all that.
By using a Bluetooth earpiece it means that just by touching the button on it when the call comes in I can keep working or driving and if necessary just say I’ll ring back in 5 mins. No stress, just makes sense to me.

Neff fully integrated washer/dryer needs to come out so I can replace the brushes. Can’t access due to new laminate floor and cupboard furniture cross piece butting on top of the machine. Give customer 4 options: –
Option 1) Get someone to lift laminate floor so I can slide machine out when all clear, come back again and charge for 2 calls.
Option 2) Allow me to remove and discard the cross-piece above machine so I can lift it onto laminate and drag it out, sorted in a few minutes!
Option 3) Get someone else in to remove and discard the cross-piece so I can lift it onto laminate and drag it out and charge for 2 calls.
Option 4) Pay me my £55 call-out and I’m out of here and on to more pressing needs!
The lady spent the next 15 mins or so on the phone to her OM and her dad (for some reason best know only to her) then opted for Option 4 as nobody could reach a rational desision as to what best to do in order the machine get fixed.:rolls:
I went back today and successfully carried out Option 3

Irate Woman phones up 9.30 sunday night 😯 . I bought a Bosch of you just over two years ago. Its been in storage for 18 months just reinstalled it and its not working no lights nothing. Should last longer than six months use blah blah blah.
I ask her to plug somthing else in socket and try a new fuse. Her words (We aren’t stupid we have tried all that and have changed the plug aswell)
I thought here we go ive got a screamer on my hands here.Get out there today and the bloke had changed the plug because he couldnt get the moulded plug through the hole but he had wired earth to live and vice versa 😯
He then starts to say hes done it right and I must be wrong because he copied it off the other plug 😡 (Not sure how he did that with a moulded plug). So anyway rewired it got my cash and left the house with the woman having a right go at him and his final words .Im not a electrician am I. 😆
So from now on I’m going to switch the phone off at 7 because I only seem to get idiots phone me up after that. -
