Reading these pages makes me wish somehow this info could be released onto the public in say a program similar to Watchdog, only turned the other way around, showing that whilst a small proportion of the public do get conned there is an even larger portion of the public doing the conning.
Frankly I’m starting to think that some of the peeps on Watchdog got it right, there making money, conning people yes, but it seems that if your gonna get accused/grief anyway you may as well get paid well for it.

Big discussion going on all the while, no doubt testing if I understand the bl**dy lingo first of all then, if no reaction from me off they jabber and barely stop for breath. Arms waving, kids yelling in the background, more eyes peering from around the corner to see what all the fuss is about……
…..then suddenly they break out into recognisible English asking : –

After unsuccessfully trying to identifiy the number from recent visits and enquiries, then reply: “I don’t recognise your telephone number. Who are you?”.
“It’s Angela, you came out a month or two back to repair it.” Still don’t know who she is, better ring her. Flattering I suppose that they communicate as though we are best friends, but (mildly) frustrating, and happening more and more.

It is possibly my age but I get a bit miffed when someone who I have never, ever spoken to or been in contact with before rings up ands says “Hi Jim”. Its as though they think the matey familiarity will in some way reduce the cost of the job or get me to drop everything and rush round to sort out their problems.
I would never refer to someone I had never met, spoken to or conversed with in some way by their Christian name unless invited to do so.

I hate the ones ringing out of hours and don’t leave a message or a number to ring them back.

miele vac dumped at 6:15 sat evening… 45 mins after closing…
8:40am (20 mins before official opening hours) next mon morning theres a lady knocking on the door…
“…helllooo i wondered if you had managed to fix my vac yet”

I kid you not every Mon morning for the last 4 weeks we have had a message left over the weekend from the same guy “please ring me back as my washing machine is faulty ,you can get my number of your display ” each week more exasperated :rolls:

Had a few of those lately. Made efforts and found the number and email from internet on last occasion over a week ago, as it’s someone with a business. Rang both phones, no answer, no answerphone 😡 . No reply to email.
Too bad for them.
I used to have a number display which recorded the last 30 calls so I could find numbers like that (if they weren’t ex-direc.) but it went wrong and the 99p one I got off ebay doesn’t do that. For people that want more business it would be worth getting the more expensive display I suppose 😉 .

2nd call this morning….long delay before the guy opens the front door wearing a pink flowery shirt, green cordaroy trousers, fluffy slippers………“Oh it’s you!…I always recognise a face…..you’ve been here before haven’t you?…..(turns his head and shouts)…..it’s that nice man again William!!!…ooooh! would you like something hot to drink?….ooooh, do come in, it’s my washer that’s playing up…..ooooh I do hope you can help us? 😯

Had a call this morning (local call) I fixed the machine. Very scatty lady customer she was, talked incessantly, I couldn’t shut her up. Well until that is I asked her to pay up and she then she got into a right old fluster trying to find her handbag. She knew she had it when she came home from dropping the little sh*t at school, buy WHERE did she put it?????????
Ages I stood in her kitchen while she was wandering all over the house, upstairs and downstairs….what a fiasco!….Then she had a brainwave…she phoned her husband at work………..told him of her dilemma….husband says, “Have you looked in the fridge?”…..she opens the fridge door (right next to me it was :rolls:) and inside on the top shelf was her friggin’ handbag….!!!

I’ve decided not to call back any weekend callers who leave messages and numbers, complete waste of effort.
Another annoying thing, instruction manuals, i could understand it if I was looking perplex before attempting the repair, but before even asking what the fault is.
I now reply to them “Why is there anything in there you don’t understand”.

Had a call on Friday morning ” Hello I have a washing machine that will not spin so I enquired what make and model it was – Reply Servis but don’t want to call you out as I’m after Mr.. *** as he is the best engineer in the area but I’ve lost his phone number – have you got it ?”. Told her to look in yellow pages or the local free papers for the number she then asked me to look it up for her.
Don’t you just love them
